Abstract: (no character limit, extra space will be provided as needed)
This metadata record documents data for the bite rate for two species of parrotfish, Chlorurus microrhinos and
Chlorurus sordidus, recorded during the 2013 summer at Palmyra atoll.

Methods and Sampling:
Protocols and/or Procedures: (no character limit, extra space will be provided as needed)
Data were collected for C. microrhinos at 3 backreef sites and for C. sordidus at 2 forereef sites and 4 backreef sites.
Observations were conducted using snorkel in the shallow backreef sites and SCUBA on the deeper forereef sites.
Fish were followed by trained observers for 5min, staying 2-4 meters away. Each forereef site has approximately
15 trials for C. sordidus and each backreef site has approximately 20 trials for both C. sordidus and C. microrhinos.
Bite rate calculations are given as bites per min and reported as a single value for the site, species, phase level means
