Fall 2014
WIHS GOOD NEWS
Fall 2014
From The Desk Of The Station Manager
Mark Channon
It’s really different and amazing what happens at
WIHS every October during Faith Sharing! For 45
years, WIHS has been totally listener-supported. This
station depends upon the Lord to move among His
people to provide the funds necessary to keep the station going and growing.
What’s different is that WIHS does not set a specific
financial goal for Faith Sharing. Rather we establish
our budget for the next year based on the faith promWIHS Board & Staff during Faith Sharing 2013.
ises given to the station through Faith Sharing.
What’s amazing is that you’ll only hear WIHS engaged in Faith Sharing for a total of 44-hours a year! I’m sure
you’ve heard other non-commercial radio and TV stations, with Christian programming or otherwise, that spend
hundreds of hours each year making on-air appeals. When you consider that 44 hours translates to just 0.5% of the
total hours within a year, that’s a sliver of time given over to raising funds. Said another way, WIHS is blessed to
provide ministry programs and uplifting music that glorifies the Lord 99.5% of the year without interrupting programming.
The other stations would love to know how we do it, but dear listener please understand that’s not of us, it’s because
of the Lord’s goodness! We thank Him for His continued blessings, and we thank you for being responsive to His
promptings. Be praying about how God would use you to support WIHS during Faith Sharing October 23 – 25.
We’re asking Him for great things, and hope you’ll join with us in doing the same!
The programming that you hear on WIHS throughout the year is unique. There are Christian radio stations that
focus exclusively on airing ministry programs but no music. Other Christian outlets dedicate their broadcast hours
strictly to playing so-called contemporary Christian “hits” without offering any Bible teaching whatsoever. WIHS
maintains a balanced approach. Each day you have the opportunity to sit and learn from world-class Bible expositors who rightly divide the Word of Truth and provide practical application. Supplementing those messages, our
knowledgeable broadcast staff selects music from our broad library that compliments the teaching and preaching.
God has enabled WIHS to be the only Christian radio station in Connecticut that is live and local 24-hours a day.
As a result, we’re able to minister with you in mind all day long.
You hear me say at the end of my “Minute With Mark” segments, “Thanks for your prayers, your financial support,
and for listening to WIHS”. The prayer seeds for WIHS were sewn by faithful men and women for seven years
prior to the station going on the air. It continues today by your faithful prayers. Your financial support means so
much, and is accomplishing a lot in the hearts and lives of people! We’re asking the Lord to take the station to even
greater heights in the days ahead, but only as He guides and provides.
I’m looking forward to meeting you at the Annual WIHS Banquet at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell on Saturday,
October 4th. I’m pleased to announce that Charles Morris from Haven Today will be speaking. You can hear him
each weekday on WIHS at 4:30am and 7:30pm. We’re also delighted that Tim Kaufman will provide the ministry
music at our Banquet. Tim’s clear, tenor singing voice is frequently heard on WIHS. It’s going to be a wonderful
evening together as we celebrate what God has done through WIHS since October 1969. Please, come and be a
part of it! Read all the details inside.
Keep looking up until He comes!
Your Station for Inspiration and Information -- WIHS -- where We’re In His Service
October is Pastor Appreciation Month!!
WIHS Station Manager Mark Channon
To show our appreciation of area Christian leaders, WIHS Speaks at First Baptist Church in Ansonia, CT
will host its annual Christian Leadership Breakfast on
Friday, October 3rd at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell,
CT. We’re excited that Charles Morris from Haven Today will be our guest speaker! Additionally, vocalist Tim
Kaufman will minister to us in music. You’ve heard Tim
singing on WIHS for years. If your pastor would like
to enjoy a free breakfast, have some great fellowship with
other pastors, and hear a timely message from Charles Morris,
please have your pastor or your church office call WIHS
to RSVP (860/346-1049). Advance reservations are
required and must be made with the WIHS office staff.
4th Annual Bible Reading Marathon
May 1–May 7, 2014 - State Capitol - Hartford, CT
Coordinated by House
of Good Hope and Hartford House of Prayer,
over 400 people from
more than 49 different
groups/churches (including WIHS) read from
Genesis through Revelation for 14 hours a day
for seven days on the east
steps of the State Capitol
in Hartford! The Bible was read in Spanish, Haitian, Chinese,
French, Creole, 3 different Indian languages & Italian! This
is always a powerful opportunity to make a difference for the
Kingdom of God & to bear public witness for Jesus Christ!
Start praying NOW how YOU can get involved with the 5th
Annual Bible Reading Marathon, May 7-13, 2015. The Bible
tells us to pray for those in authority in I Timothy 2:1-2a.
WIHS enjoys a privileged relationship with many area
churches to work cooperatively and coordinately to bring
the Word of GOD into the lives of many. On Sunday,
July 13, Mark Channon was
invited to speak at the First
Baptist Church of Ansonia
share the unique characteristics of a live and local
Christian radio ministry.
In addition to his timely and
informative message, listeners were able to visit a ministry display table and receive
free WIHS witnessing materials.
WIHS is available to come to churches, mission fairs, special programs or other events to share the message and
mission of quality, local Christian radio. If you would like
to invite a speaker from WIHS to come to your church or
event, call 860-346-1049 or email us at [email protected].
WIHS Transmitter News
In the Fall of 1989 WIHS began transmitting its signal
from the top of Round Hill in Middletown with what was
then a current and new transmitter. This transmitter has
continued in faithful service since that time, however its
features and reliability was
becoming a concern. A new,
modern “solid state” transmitter was recently purchased and
after a good amount of planning, preparation and testing,
the new transmitter was placed
in full-time operation in May.
In addition to the installation

Guest Speaker: Charles Morris, Speaker on Haven Today
Charles Morris is the Speaker and President for Haven Ministries. Beginning his
career as a broadcast news reporter, he then worked as an editor and bureau chief
for United Press International. Charles worked with the late Dr. James
Montgomery Boice of the Bible Study Hour, and joined Haven Ministries in 2000
as the ministry’s fourth speaker since its founding in 1934. Charles and his wife,
Janet, have co-authored several books including Saving a Life and Missing Jesus:
Find your life in His great story.
Charles is always thinking of ways to lead Christians and non-Christians to Christ - hence the familiar slogan,
"Telling the great story ... it's all about Jesus."
Tune in to listen to Charles Morris on Haven Today every weekday on WIHS at 4:30 AM and 7:30 PM and be
inspired and informed through Charles’ challenging messages. For more information visit his website:
