WIHS GOOD NEWS Winter 2014
WIHS GOOD NEWS Winter 2014 A Visit With Al Thyberg WIHS Co-Founder And First General Manager By Mark Channon, WIHS Station Manager On August 13th, WIHS General Manager, GJ Gerard and I paid a visit to one of the founders of WIHS radio, Al Thyberg. We enjoyed a wonderful time together sharing some laughs, stories and time in prayer. We presented him with some gifts including a WIHS baseball cap which he promptly put on and kept on. Al is in his early 90’s, and boy, is he strong! When we shook hands, I thought he was going to break mine! The decades of physically hard work Al invested at Mountain Lake Bible Camp still resonates in his grip. Likewise, the decades of work Al Thyberg invested in Connecticut’s first Christian radio station, WIHS, continues to resonate worldwide today! WIHS has grown considerably from its humble beginnings. In 1969, the station was part-time and only heard in Connecticut on 104.9FM in monaural. 45 years later, WIHS is on 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Its stereo radio signal is stronger, clearer and cleaner than ever. With the development of the Internet, WIHS can be heard around the world in stereo on computers, SmartPhones and Internet Radios. Mark Channon, WIHS Station Manager, “Uncle” Al Thyberg, Al listens to WIHS on an Internet Radio, and WIHS Founder & Rev. G. J. Gerard, WIHS General Manager so can you! Internet Radios are easy to use and The decades of work Al Thyberg invested in Connecticut’s first Christian radio station, WIHS, continues to resonate worldwide today! allow you to hear WIHS in beautiful stereo fidelity wherever there’s Wi-Fi reception. They are readily available in stores or On-Line, so if you live out of WIHS’ FM signal range or have reception problems, an Internet Radio may be just the thing you’d need to tune to WIHS and be enriched by the solid ministry programs and uplifting music. Oh, and by the way, WIHS now posts its music play lists On-Line! We want the music heard on WIHS to compliment the Bible teaching and preaching, and as such, we don’t announce song titles or artist’s names. So if you’ve been blessed by a music selection you’ve heard on WIHS, you can view our play lists when you visit wihsradio.org. During our visit I thanked Al for having the vision to start WIHS and told him about the positive impact the station has made in my life. I’m grateful! We’re always delighted to get your cards and emails which tell us how God is using WIHS to help you to grow spiritually each day. What’s Inside... It is never too late to participate in Faith Sharing! Write, call or email the station to make your Faith Promise to support WIHS in 2015. We don’t take past support for granted, and are grateful for all our longtime friends and listeners who continue to be a part of the WIHS family. We rely upon your help to keep quality Christian programming on the air throughout Connecticut on WIHS! Celebrate The Birth Of Jesus Christ WIHS Christmas Specials “There is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11 As a baby, Jesus was remarkable because He was God, the Second Person of the Trinity, in human form. This Divine Baby grew into a perfect, sinless Man who chose to die a brutal death on a cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins. Each one of us has sinned against God because we have broken His Law (the Ten Commandments) and deserve Hell. But, because Jesus died on the cross as a substitute for each one of us, God can forgive us. Because of His shed blood – His sacrifice – He has made a way so that we can be forgiven of our sins and brought into a right relationship with God. Jesus then rose from the dead, and defeated the power of the grave! This is the “Good News” we proclaim each day on WIHS! But why would Jesus do this? Faithful WIHS Faith Sharing volunteers at 6am on Thursday, October 23rd (1st day of Faith Sharing 2014). Christmas Giving to WIHS As you consider your Christmas gift list, we’d be very grateful if you would celebrate Jesus’ birth by sending a gift to WIHS in His honor. The IRS is firm that only gifts postmarked in 2014 can be credited for 2014 tax returns. May God continue to bless you and yours in 2015! Thank you for your faithful prayers, encouraging words and financial support during 2014. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 If you repent and trust the Savior, God will forgive you sins and grant you everlasting life (Romans 10:9). When you do this, you are what the Bible calls, “born again”. Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” John 3:3 This is why we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by airing special programs and music that focus on the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of the world. Contact WIHS to receive a schedule of the Christmas programs and music we’re planning. Encourage others to tune to 104.9 FM or wihsradio.org and be blessed by this special programming. Memorial Donations A memorial donation is a very special way to remember a loved one, and it helps WIHS to continue to broadcast the Good News of Jesus Christ! More and more people are choosing to remember a loved one by making an “In Memory” donation to WIHS as an alternative to sending flowers to a funeral. It is comforting that a gift given in memory of your loved one can help lead someone to a saving faith in Jesus Christ!.
