CONNECTICUT RADIO FELLOWSHIP, INC. WIHS 104.9 FM 1933 S. Main Street Middletown, Connecticut 06457 NON-PROFIT ORG. U.S. POSTAGE PAID PERMIT NO. 79 NEW HAVEN, CONN. RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED Listen to WIHS online at www.wihsradio.org WIHS GOOD NEWS Summer 2013 FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER’S DESK Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters of WIHS: Jesus said: “If you love me, obey My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him, and doesn’t recognize Him. But you do, because He lives with you now, and later will be in you” John 14:15-17 (NLT) May 19, 2013 is Pentecost Sunday, the traditional day in the church calendar to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the New Testament Church (cf. Acts 2). The Holy Spirit, who is the third person of the Triune GODhead, is the promised Counselor that Jesus declared will live in all of His followers (cf. John 14). The work of the Holy Spirit is essential and manifold for all believers to live as GOD, the Father has decreed, and Jesus, the Son has exemplified. Here are just a few examples of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer: The 3rd Annual Bible Reading Marathon starts with He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment – John 16:8-11. He urges us toward the blowing of the shofars – then, Gerry Williams salvation – John 6:44. He makes us new creations in Christ Jesus – 2 Cor. 5:17. He begins reading in Genesis 1:1!! helps us to pray and assures us our prayers are heard – Romans 8:26-28. He helps us to know GOD’s thoughts and GOD’s will for our lives – I Cor. 2:15-16. He gives us power to live the Christian life – Rom. 8.2. He guides us in right paths, and away from wrong places – Acts 16:7-9. He helps us to understand GOD’s Word – Luke 24:45. He provides special gifts to strengthen the Church – I Cor. 12 and He brings deep and everlasting peace for every believer – John 14:27. Many more verses could be cited showing the importance of the Holy Spirit’s work in the plan of GOD’s economy. However, what is truly needful is a careful examination of the work of the Holy Spirit in our individual lives. A personal audit of the Holy Spirit’s work within our lives is necessary (cf. I Cor. 11:28-31). If our faith has not been initiated, established, and made secure by the Holy Spirit, then it will be of no avail to enable us to know and serve GOD now, and to be assured of our eternal reward. The call to follow Jesus, as Lord and Saviour, is wrought in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, and He gives us the power to respond to that call, with a divinely given faith. This is the faith that justifies us, putting us on the right path that leads to GOD; and the faith that sanctifies us, keeping us on that right path; and in GOD’s timing, it is the faith that glorifies us, when we reach the end of that right path which GOD has prepared beforehand for us, and all of his chosen people. While there is a special Day to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, we should use every Day to recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives; that the Triune GOD will be honored and glorified in all that we do and say. This is the desire and concern of WIHS as well; that this Christian Radio Station will be led by the Holy Spirit and His work will be very evident in all that occurs in this ministry – through the programs that are aired, the music that is played, the comments that are shared, and all the tasks that are done to bring the best in Inspiration and Information to all who tune to 104.9 FM. This is truly why We’re In His Service. Cordially in Christ, GJ Gerard, General Manager Your Station for Inspiration and Information -- WIHS -- where We’re In His Service Pastors Bill Huegel & Chris Adams join the WIHS Family Prayer Circle Saturdays from 8:30-9pm!! EFT is short for Electronic Funds Transfer, which is basically the ability to make a donation on-line. More and more listeners are utilizing this method of supporting WIHS. Since 2008, WIHS has been blessed to provide this convenient opportunity to our listeners. On the WIHS home-page (www.wihsradio.org) there is a link that users can click to learn how to make an on-line donation. Internet users can send a financial gift through a deduction from their checking or savings account, or they may use a credit or debit card. The WIHS Board of Directors wants to encourage good Biblical Stewardship and cautions all donors to give priority financial support to their local church, and to be especially careful when using a credit card, so as not to incur continuing debt due to using the EFT service to make an online donation. Word for the Week Since January 1st, WIHS has been encouraging listeners to dig deeper into God’s Word by participating in our 2013 word study, “Word for the Week!” There is a new word every week so it’s NEVER too late to join in! During your regular devotional times and Bible readings, be aware of the current WIHS “Word for the Week.” Then use concordances, Bible dictionaries and other aids to help you to receive a greater understanding of God’s Word! And…..as you are blessed with newfound understanding and insights, please share them with other WIHS listeners by writing or emailing the Station. =+=+=+====+++===++++====++===++++=+=++++++==+++== NEW WIHS BIBLE COLLECTION Did you know that 80% of Christians worldwide do not have a copy of the Holy Bible? Email: [email protected] Phone: 860-346-1049 Letters from Listeners Be encouraged -- see how the Lord is working through this 100% listenersupported Christian radio ministry! I came across WIHS in November of 2004 and gave my life to Christ while traveling in a car to radiation treatments for breast cancer, and have not turned off the radio station since. My husband and I have found a wonderful Christian Church and community. I no longer listen to secular radio. EMAIL LISTENER I called WIHS for some information and ended up talking to a very helpful and pleasant office staff member who helped me find my current church where my teenage daughter and myself have received Jesus as Lord and Savior into our lives! Thank you WIHS for all, and I mean all you do to touch our lives with the glorious word of our Lord! WETHERSFIELD Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your wonderful station! I listen on the internet and am so glad you’re on the web … I started listening in 1994 … Also, thank you for sending the newsletters….I hope you will have everything you need, exceedingly abundantly more than you can ask or think to continue broadcasting to CT and the world. I appreciate what you do and will tune in as much as I can. Thanks again and may the Lord’s favor be with you!!!!!!!! DURHAM I was able to give out a WIHS Invitation to Listen Card today! I was at the beach when I noticed a woman and three kids whose car had a flat tire. I volunteered to help them, and she asked me “why are you being so nice?” I told her I was a Christian, and was glad to help her. Afterward, as I was leaving the beach, I remembered I had a couple of WIHS cards -- my hope is that they might tune in and hear about our wonderful King! Thanks for all you do at WIHS. HAMDEN I am so thankful to God for you and ask him to cover this radio ministry under his Almighty wings from day to day. I praise God for you. You help keep me in touch with God always! HARTFORD I just wanted to thank you for your Christian music and programs. They are a real blessing to me as I drive to and from work. I especially love the contemporary Christian music (like Michael W. Smith songs). I discovered your station one morning as I prayed to be more God focused, and a car passed me with the WIHS bumper sticker, so I am requesting a bumper sticker to be mailed to me, and maybe I will have the same impact on someone else’s life. VERNON Continue your great ministry. We’re blessed everyday. Since our move to Bolton last year (from Manchester), we’re just barely out of broadcast reach so am very glad you’re broadcasting over the internet!! BOLTON WIHS has helped support my personal Christian growth over the last 15 years. I found you while in college and now listen on a daily basis. Thank you and God bless you all! EAST HARTFORD Keep up the great work at WIHS, please. It’s super to hear a ‘Christ-Centered Radio Station’. God Bless you all. WESTFIELD, MA WIHS business hours are Monday-Friday from 9am5pm.
