This is the 4th Annual
Ramona
Old West Days
It began in collaboration with the Ramona
Blue Grass Festival and then evolved into a
two day event focusing on an educational
opportunity for the children from the six
Ramona Elementary Schools. This educational focus remains, but we’ve expanded into
a premier event for Mountain Men
Encampers, Western Reenactment groups
and 1800s period vendors.
The general public is welcome to attend this
event on Saturday and Sunday and experience
the reality of our rich 1800’s heritage.

enjoy our life out west!

For two days, April 30 and May 1, we invite
all to come experience the Gunfighter Skit
competition and Rendezvous Encampments.
Guests can shop for old west merchandise in
our Period Peddler shops while enjoying delicious Mexican food.
Teaching Moments
and our Mission
Our first two days, April 28 – 29, our guests
are 5th and 6th grade student explorers from
six Ramona schools. They come to learn and
truly appreciate the history of our land, quite
literally, they see the reality of those who
came West as they tour the encampments.

“Showdown at Sundown”
Holy Cow, get ready as Old West gunfight reenactment groups aim to please as
they fire away in fun and historically
authentic skits right here in Ramona!
Guns of the Round Table, host this event and
have invited the BEST of the BEST
gunfighter reenactment groups in the Southwest for an exciting “Showdown at Sundown”
competition ending with the coveted prizes.
On a simpler side, they are award winning groups,
that just love to get dressed up, shoot, fall down
and play dead.
The Reenactment Guild of America, which is
dedicated to the preservation of and education
regarding the history of America’s 19th Century,
provides the competition prizes.
Safety first, and the Sheriff is mighty tough!
Experience Living Histo ry
EARLY 1800s - Government funds western
exploration with Lewis & Clark Pacific Expedition. Early Western migration families
1825 to 1840s - Rendezvous Period of Mountain Men. Economy based upon beaver trappings
& trade
1840 to 1860 - Continued Western migrations. Buffalo hunting, early treaties with Native
Americans
1860 to 1865 - Civil War (War of Northern
Aggression) stalled much of Western activities
1865 to early 1880s - Cattle based economy
with rise of American Cowboy culture. Indian
Wars period with military presence expanding. Buffalo Soldiers. Explosion of western
migration, hostilities with Native Americans,
towns become cultural centers bordellos'/
saloons/churches/schools. Prevalence of females throughout the West
1890s - Statehood arrives in many areas
supporting “civilized" atmosphere
