Super thank you in the kitchen to Colette Sawyer.” —Dena Johnson Thank you also goes to all those “spontaneous helpers” who stepped in as needed! Special thanks to Eileen Maelzer, Jean Poland and Dena Johnson who organized everything for us LNCQ BOARD MEETINGS The next Board meeting is Monday, May 14, 7 pm at the Meadowlark Church of Christ, Fort Collins. Meetings are Usually held the first Monday of months without general meetings, but may be rescheduled to the second Monday to avoid holidays. Call any Board Member with question. Volume 15 Issue 1 Community Service From the LNCQ President … In STITCHES with STITCHERS I followed the directions The Kit they said was easy. It was not true, I say no way The pattern was a doozy. One side is short, the other long The matching points -- they've gone all wrong. I stitched, I ripped, I cried, I swore Then threw the Kit right out the door. So, this month I am looking at "the pieces" and trying to fit everything together. One thing about it, quilters are some of the best people in the world, so there is quality fabric to work with. You won't want to miss our next meeting on April 2nd. Hari Walner is praised as a wonderful and inspiring teacher, winning a well deserved Teacher of the Year award in 2006. Look for more information about her and her class (April 3rd) on our website www.lncq.org. Let me personally thank all the members who helped with the hosting of the CQC February meeting. Over 40 members helped with food, displays, kitchen duty, favors, etc. You made LNCQ look really GOOD!!! Fundraising to keep LNCQ viable and stimulating is an important goal for all of us. Please respond to the ideas on the next page of this newsletter! Happy stitching -- may all your seams be straight and your points match up. Norma Carter, LNCQ President In January, we donated **23 quilts to Child Safe ** 11 quilts to Foster Care **Left over batting scraps were donated to Cat Rescue. There were 13 quilters at the Sew Day January 21st. We worked on Honor Flight tops and sandwiched quilts. Thanks to all. Next Sew Day is March 31st. Please join us at the Ranch between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Bring sewing supplies and your lunch. Child Safe Barbara Cohen with Child Safe needs as many quilts as possible. The quilts do not need to be large45”or 48” square will work just fine. So please go through your stash and use that fabric “I can’t remember why you bought it!” or “What was I thinking!?”-- and UFO blocks that are taking up space. Honor Flight of Northern Colorado This organization sends WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War and terminally ill veterans on a free trip to Washington DC to see the memorials. The Northern Colorado chapter tries to cover each veteran with a quilt before they go. Here again, the quilt does not need to be large. Lap size is good and of course they love Red, White and Blue. Another great volunteer opportunity… Large quilts are donated to families that have lost everything i.e. home fires, wild fires and floods. The LNCQ membership committee needs volunteers for the Shop Hop at The Ranch on Saturday April 14th. Rookie Coach Needed The volunteers will help with passport handout, bag sale and LNCQ membership information. Paulette needs 8 volunteers for a two hour shift each. It will help the Shop Hop and we will get free advertisement and information out for LNCQ. Contact Paulette Murray at 970- 223-1062 or email [email protected] Northern Link LNCQ needs a Rookie Coach Coordinator NOW!! Currently 4 Loveland residents are waiting for coaching. Please contact LNCQ President, Norma Carter 207-0715 Page 3 or [email protected] LNCQ FUNDRAISING IDEAS LNCQ is struggling. Expenses keep rising and we are no longer able to pay for everything with just membership dues. This year we will need to do some serious fundraising. Small Leadership Groups may form to plan a fundraising activity for our members to join in. Certainly, the enthusiastic volunteering visible at CQC meeting means we can do this—and have fun doing it!
