Hilton Kozyatagi MEVLANA JALALUDDIN RUMI (1207-1273) Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi is a 13th century Muslim saint and Anatolian mystic known throughout the world for his exquisite poems and words of wisdom, which have been translated into many languages. His doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positivereasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love. To him all religions were more or less truth. Mevlana looked with the same eye on Muslim, Jew and Christian alike. His peaceful and tolerant teachings have appealed to men of all sects and creeds. Mevlana died on 17 December 1273 and was laid to rest beside his father in Konya, in present day Turkey. A splendid shrine, the Mevlana Mausoleum was erected over their remains, which is now a museum and place of pilgrimage. Every year on that day, at this magnificient 13th century mausoleum we celebrate Seb-i Arus, his 'Wedding Day', together with thousands of people from all around the world. Wyndham Grand Istanbul The fascinating dance of the Whirling Dervishes symbolizes the worship ceremony representing the union with God. The Dervishes wear long white robes and tall conical red hats representing their tombstones, as they relinquish the earthly life to be reborn in mystical union with God. The Galata Mevlevihanesi, or tekke, is a undoubtedly the most famous Mevlevi Whirling Dervish hall. It is located on Galipdede Caddesi, not far from Tünel at the end of Istiklal Caddesi. Also called the Galata Lodge, the first and only original dervish hall in the city. The International Nasreddin Hodja Festival is held to commemorate Nasreddin Hodja who is one of the most important names of Turkish literature and to expand and promote his witticism and funny stories through the world. Organized in July every year, the festival offers a rich program Konya is a city in Central Anatolia in Turkey which has protected its name for centuries. Legend says that Perseus killed a dragon that had been ravaging the town. The people set up a special monument to honor him, a stone obelisk with an icon of Perseus carved in it.
