Americana President, Jon Wesney, Invites You to the 2014 Festival
Americana President, Jon Wesney, Invites You to the 2014 Festival
As president of this year’s Americana Committee, I would like to extend my
personal invitation in celebrating our country’s Independence Day by
participating in this year’s Americana Festival. In 2014, we are celebrating
our 41st anniversary. As in years past, we will have plenty of food, arts,
crafts, music, fireworks, games for the kids and, of course, one of the best
parades in the Dayton area.
In addition to all the exciting activities, the Americana Committee is proud
to recognize this year’s Grand Marshall, Dick Gard. Mr. Gard is a highly decorated veteran
of both World War II and the Korean War. It is an honor to recognize a veteran like Mr.
Gard during the festival.
AS THIS YEAR’S PRESIDENT, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO INVITE FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO
JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THIS YEAR’S AMERICANA FESTIVAL!

Americana Festival Street Fair is a Shopping Extravaganza
Every year crafters from far and near bring
their handmade items to Centerville on the
4th of July. The Americana Arts and Crafts
Festival lines North Main Street from
Franklin Street north, on to Irongate Park
Drive, and spilling over into Benham’s Grove
with something for everyone. More than 300
exhibitors
will
offer
crafts,
food,
entertainment and fun for all ages!
Visitors to the Americana Festival can stroll
the booths on Thursday, July 4th from 9:30am
until 5:00pm and browse wares from all over Ohio, as well as Kentucky, Indiana,
Michigan, New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Georgia
and Tennessee. The selection will include country and wood crafts, dolls and stuffed
animals, handcrafted jewelry, pottery, floral
designs, stitchery, wooden toys, doll clothes,
garden arts and accessories, handmade
clothing, patriotic items, photography,
sports items and other fine artistry. Several
booths will feature temporary tattoos and
face painting, which are always a favorite
for the children.
Festival goers will also discover homemade
jellies, salsas, dip mixes, rubs, honey, fudge
and other delectable sweets. Soaps, lotions, cutlery, collectibles, and many recycled
products will be featured. A dwarf Nigerian goat will accompany a vendor to delight
the visitors in Benham’s Grove.
For the past ten years, a committee of three have walked the Americana Festival
street fair to find the most attractively set-up exhibits. The judging is on the
outward appearance only, not the product being sold.
Three winners are
selected and each will receive a
framed certificate and complimentary
booth space for the following year.
Each year the Americana Festival
Street Fair also recognizes crafters
and groups who have participated for
ten years with a certificate of
appreciation and a complimentary
space for the next year.
A Note from Centerville Mayor, Mark Kingseed
I'm happy to welcome everyone to a Star Spangled Fourth
Of July!
Every American reacts with emotion when he or she sees
our nation's flag passing by. We all understand what the
flag signifies-freedom, individual liberty, and selfgovernment. No one who has lived through all or part of the
last 70 years can fail to recognize that the flag also signifies
sacrifice- sacrifice of those in the armed forces and the
sacrifice of those who stayed at home. And so as we
celebrate another glorious Fourth of July, let's remember what the flag really
means. The Stars and Stripes are beautiful to see, but it is even more beautiful
when one contemplates what it stands for and what it symbolizes .
Enjoy the wonderful celebration as we demonstrate once again our pride in our
nation and our confidence in the future. God bless America.
Enjoy!
Mark Kingseed,
Mayor, Centerville, Ohio
Flag Ceremony and Patriotic Concert
To Kick Off the 2014 Americana Festival
Join the Americana Festival on the evening of July 3rd as we begin the
festivities for a Star Spangled Fourth with a flag ceremony, presented
by the Color Guard of Centerville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post
9550, immediately before the Holiday Concert at the Community
Amphitheater in Stubbs Park at 7 p.m.
This special, free-to-the-public patriotic concert is sponsored by The
City of Centerville and Centerville Arts Commission. The 2014
Patriotic Concert will feature the Centerville Community Band and
Centerville Community Chorus. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for
seating and enjoy a truly uplifting evening.
Welcome from Scott Paulson, Washington Township Trustee President
Washington Township is looking forward to celebrating a
“Star-Spangled Fourth” at the Americana Festival! This
year’s “star-spangled” theme captures the energy and
atmosphere of Americana – from the morning 5K run and
parade through the evening’s fireworks.
It takes a large group of truly dedicated individuals to pull
off such a celebratory feat. On behalf of Washington
Township’s elected officials, I’d like to thank each of them
for their efforts.
If you’re one of the 75,000 people who expect to attend
Americana this year, please take some time while you’re there to thank a volunteer
for helping to create a spectacular event that contributes so much to our
community.
Washington Township is proud to support this patriotic observance and to serve as
one of its two diamond sponsors. In addition to financial support, the township
helps with planning and provides a variety of support services – from staging a
talent show and making sure fireworks
are safe to providing EMTs on bikes.
We also provide a central activity area
at Town Hall during the street fair.
Free balloons and patriotic arts and
crafts for kids will be offered outside.
Inside, families can take a break from
the heat to watch live entertainment.
On the Town Hall stage, comic juggler
and magician Derek Dye will entertain
all ages with an eclectic vaudeville
stage routine and Town Hall Theatre’s
performing youth will present a season preview featuring performances by the
program’s talented young performers.
We hope you stop by to enjoy the entertainment and activities. Americana
promises to be packed with star-spangled fun!
Scott Paulson, President
Washington Township Trustees
Town Hall Presents Juggling, Magic and Theater
at the Americana Festival
Town Hall will again serve as a central activity area at
the Americana Festival. The day’s bill features free balloons and patriotic arts and crafts outside for kids, plus
live family entertainment inside.
Live onstage, the theatre welcomes back comic juggler
and magician extraordinaire, Derek Dye who wows audiences young and old with his eclectic vaudeville stage
routine. The entertainer has performed for the New York
Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates and even the White House and
his work has been broadcast on Fox, ESPN and Comedy
Central.
The onstage lineup will include Town Hall Theatre’s performing youth who will
present a season preview show featuring performances by some of the best and
brightest of the program’s talented young performers. The box office will be open
during the Americana Festival featuring early-bird ticket specials for the theatre’s
23nd year.
Operated by the Washington Township Recreation
Center, Town Hall Theatre’s productions are created
especially for young audiences and are performed by
young people and adults. The theatre also offers acting classes and performing arts camps for ages two
and up.
“A fixture in our community for over 105 years,
Washington Township Hall has served so many purposes over the years,” says Mark Metzger, Town Hall
Theatre Manager. “During the Americana Festival be sure to take a break from
the heat to check out this air-conditioned architectural jewel.”
