Whitehouse School Nutrition 2012
•
The School Nutrition Department has implemented many changes to the school menu this year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture released new rules which incorporated more whole grains, increased the variety of vegetables and fresh fruits, lowered fat and sodium and set sensible calorie limits based on the age of children being served.
•
The School Nutrition Department implemented new software that allows parents to pay on their students’ accounts online, reducing the amount of cash transactions at the campus level. Parents are also able to complete the meal benefits application online. This resulted in an increase in the number of electronic applications versus paper and reduced the time it takes to approve an application.
•
New technology is being installed which will allow School Nutrition Staff to monitor cooler and freezer temperatures by computer and to take food temperatures electronically. This reduces labor considerably, as well as reducing paperwork.
•
The School Nutrition Department encourages parents and staff to dine in our cafeterias. Adult menu choices vary by campus.
