Rolex historia, höljd i dunkel. I decennier föreföll
Rolex Daytona vara osäljbar trots ett tämligen
överkomligt pris, en omständighet som höll

produktionen nere och skulle bädda för våra
dagars vintagehysteri. Till de få bärarna hörde
Paul Newman, som fick en Daytona av sin hustru 1972 och bar den troget under resten av sitt
liv. 1988 omdanades Daytona och förseddes
med nytt urverk, ett automatiskt Zenith El Primero i stället för de tidiga referensernas handjagade Valjoux 72-verk. Omkring denna era
började en hysteri kring modellen med priser
som ständigt sköt i höjden, andrahandsvärden
som översteg listpriserna och där väntelistor
på tre år eller mer blev standard. De numera

började byta handled för astronomiska belopp.
Sedan år 2000 är modellen försedd med Rolex
eget urverk, och produktionen är numera av sådan skala att ingen behöver vänta.
Samlarnas favoritreferens: Den mest eftertraktade Daytonan går under smeknamnet
Paul Newman, en flytande term som försvåras av att Paul Newman själv ägde mer än
en tidig Daytona. De aktuella referenserna är
alla fyrsiffriga och producerade mellan 1961
och 1987.
Historia: Omegas kronografklassiker Speedmaster såg dagens ljus 1957, då tänkt som
ett sätt för tillverkaren att ansluta sig till
rådande motorsportstrender. Det var dock
inte racingförare, utan astronauter, som
gjorde modellens lycka, detta efter att NASA
testat marknadens då ledande kronografer i
syfte att utrusta sin rymdpersonal med en
pålitlig klocka som komplement till fast utrust-
ning. Efter en sägenomspunnen testcykel full
av allsköns misshandel var Omega Speedmaster den enda som tickade med korrekt
tid, och blev den första klockan på månen då
Buzz Aldrin klev ur månlandaren som andra
människa någonsin den 21 juli 1969. Modellen
har producerats med närapå identiskt utseende ända sedan dess, och för den som vill
ta ut svängarna finns ett brett utbud av modeller
där man valt att leka med estetiken på diverse
mer eller mindre lyckade sätt.
Samlarnas favoritreferens: 1963 års
105.012 och 145.012 var de referenser som
utsattes för NASA:s berömda tester och som
sedermera bars av Apollo 11:s astronauter. I
modellen därpå, som lanserades 1968 med
referensnummer 145.022, har urverket bytts
från kaliber 361 till kaliber 861.

CANCELLATION RULES
For cancellation later than 14 days before the copy date
given in the price list, a booking fee of 50% of the value
of the space booked will be charged. If cancellation takes
place later than one week before the copy date, we reserve
the right to invoice the agreed advertising rate.
