hcsntly I ordered some replacement parts for an
alder Hy-Gain Antenna that I will put up shortly
(TFI3-JR).
I was referred t o a toll free number
for technical advice: (1) (800) 328-3771 and
apoke t o Mr. Al Ebplan who was very h e l p f u l and
who made the following recolmnendation: %en
assembling aluminum tubing sections first brueb
mating eurfaces with 000 steel wool and them
coat l i g h t l y with an anti-oxidant preparation.
He specif l e d "Pennetrax-A" , a Greenlee Product,
the "A" designating the aluminum f o m l a . Faf lure
t o prepare joints tbualy eventually results i n
corrosion and raaisrive j o i n t s . (Which w i l l alter
and probably degrade antenna performanceJ He ale0
aaid the comon practice of epraying '?lrylontlor
a similar urethane coating over a tubifig joint
w i l l protect for rr while, but eventually moisture
w i l l produce corrosion. I was unable to loaare
any "Pennetrax-A" locally, but found the
following substitutes at a local electric holesale supply: "NO-LOX" by Ideal Corp. 8 o t s . f o r
$4.15 end '%E-MI" by ILSCO b r p
8 o w . for
$4.15, Both available from Union Wholeeale
Electric Co. 1509 W. Valley Blvd. Illhambra (818)
289-6142. They atock the producte for applieariona such as joining alurnlnm sections of highcurrent bues-bars, and will sell over-the-counter.
