From the President…
To all the Fair Friends,
I would like to welcome all that attend the fair and thank you for your continued
support in promoting our agricultural heritage. As the seasons change I often think
of how each season affects our agriculture, community, family and friends. The
cold and snowy winter season has passed and the spring season is upon us. This is
the time we prepare our equipment for the planting season. Before you know it the
growing season will have passed and harvesting season will be upon us. This also
brings us into the season of the Fair where we show off our hard work and efforts
from the previous seasons.
The Fair Board, Livestock Council and many other volunteers have been working
very hard in the “off season” of the fair to make this the best facility to participate
at. We have broken ground on a new horse barn and soon will be breaking ground
on a bathhouse for the campground. This makes me realize that being involved in
the fair is a season in your life that you will never regret. I would like to thank all
of you again for your help in making agriculture and the Fair an important season
to pass on to our children.

In Memory of Mr. Glen Noonan
The Northwestern Michigan Fair lost one of its biggest supporters with the passing of Glen
Noonan in September of 2014. One of the highlights of Glen’s summer was attending the 4-H
livestock auction where he purchased countless animals. He would arrive at the auction with a
list in hand, prepared by his wife Ella, of all the kids he had received letters from. He read every
letter and did his best to support each 4-Her. Quite possibly his biggest 4-H thrill was in 2000
when his grandson David had the grand champion steer and his granddaughter Sarah had the
reserve grand champion steer.
Glen’s generosity wasn’t limited to just 4-H. The organizations and people that benefited from
his many donations extended far and wide. He was always willing to help others in any way he
could.
Glen was the owner of Kasson Sand & Gravel and was on the Leelanau County Road Commission for 42 years. But his heart was in farming. From dairy farming to beef and crop farming,
Glen was proud to pass on his love of agriculture to his sons and grandsons.
Above all, family was the most important to Glen. He was married to his wife Ella for over 60
years and they raised 6 sons and 1 daughter. They had 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Nothing pleased Glen more than a family gathering for a picnic “at the lake.”
In his memory please do something kind for someone, help someone out. Pay it forward!
