Congratulations to the Prince Avenue Christian School Class of 2013! Best wishes and
many prayers for your future as you continue to pursue your purpose for the glory of God!
Excellence on Display at Graduation
Dane Boswell, the recipient of the
Christopher Newcomer Memorial
Scholarship, was among the students who still showed academic
excitement even in the waning
days of the school year.
Excellence was on display when our PACS Class of 2013 graduates crossed the stage of
the Prince Avenue Baptist Church Worship Center on Saturday, May 19th, to receive their
diplomas. Our seniors were challenged by guest speaker Dr. Don Dowless, President of
Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, to boldly go forth “transforming lives for Christ.” We
have completed our 35th academic year at Prince Avenue Christian School with a record
801 students. We are thankful for the Class of 2013’s contributions through missions both
locally and abroad, accomplishments with their unique gifts, talents and abilities, and for
their leadership within our student body.
This class of 48 seniors is the largest graduating class in school history. Did you know…..
• • 5 of our graduates have attended PACS since Pre-K (14 years)!
• • 6 of our graduates first enrolled in kindergarten, a mere 13 years ago

“Best of the Best” Shape Lives at PACS
Joe Strickland, Tracy Hathaway, and Pris Fournier, pictured with Head of School Danny
Howell, were honored with the Colossians 3:23 Educators of the Year Award for 2012-13.
Teachers have the privilege of helping
to shape and transform lives through
the impact they make in the classroom
every day, and this year three teachers
at Prince Avenue Christian School were
recognized as “the Best of the Best” during annual Honors Day ceremonies.
”At Prince Avenue Christian School,
we want to recognize the impact our
teachers make on our students now
and through eternity,” says Head of
School Danny Howell. “And each year,
the school recognizes ‘the best of the
best,’ with the Colossians 3:23 Educators of the Year Award.”
“We are confident that all our
teachers are making an eternal impact
on the lives of their students as they
seek to educate them through the basis
of a Christian worldview. But each year
some teachers rise above the rest in
their ability to engage our students and
in touching the lives of our students.
It is a privilege to honor them with this
award,” says Howell.
This year, the awards were presented
to 35-year PACS teaching veteran Mrs.
Pris Fournier, drama teacher Mr. Joe
Strickland, and English teacher Mrs. Tracy
Hathaway.
Pris Fournier began teaching at
Prince Avenue the day the school’s doors
first opened, and for the past thirty-five
years she has influenced the lives the of
almost every student who graduated
from the school. Her colleagues say
she is “single minded and focused and
dedicated to her purpose as a Christian
school teacher and a Christian leader and
mentor. She has a high standard of discipline and respect in her classroom, and
her students rise to her expectations.”
Mrs. Fournier is retiring from Prince Avenue this year, and she was recognized at
this year’s Honors Day ceremonies.
Mr. Joe Strickland, who teaches
Pris Fournier, who retires this year from
Prince Avenue Christian School, taught
almost every subject and grade level
during her thirty-five years at the school.
Among her students were current PACS
administrators Bettyann Collinsworth
and Richard Ricketts, and and elementary Spanish teacher Sam Brittain.
drama, performing arts, and directs the
school’s play productions, is “patient,
creative, resourceful, kind, and humorous ,” say his colleagues. “It is clear that
he loves his job and his students. He
uses a variety of teaching methods so
that everyone is able to engage and
connect in his classroom.”
Mrs. Tracy Hathaway was the third
recipient of the teaching award. One
of her nominators described her as a
teacher who “knows how to connect
with her students and engage them
in learning. She sets high standards
for her students and requires them to
do their best for God’s glory. She is
dedicated to helping her students truly
learn and understand the beauty of
literature and writing.”
Each of the Colossians 3:23 Educators of the Year receives a $3,000
stipend generously donated by an
anomyous friend of the school.

Kindergrads Join Class of 2013 with Graduation Festivities
The excitement of transition was evident throughout the Prince Avenue Christian School campus as some of the school’s youngest students celebrated their completion of kindergarten with a special graduation program in the church worship center. Just
twenty-four hours later, the Class of 2013 was challenged by the President of Shorter University to consider the potential of their
futures as they leave the secure walls of PACS and transition to college or careers. The forty-eight seniors in the Class of 2013
earned 309 hours of college credit through dual enrollment courses, took 48 Advanced Placement courses, and were offered in
excess of $417,000 in scholarships.

Scholarship Established
Young Students Learn Ministry Skills
Elementary math begins with learning to count, and Mrs. Shona Foster’s first grade
students were challenged to count higher than ever before as they collected more
than 1,000 books for the “Books for Keeps” program this month.
The students recently learned that many young students in public schools only
have the opportunity to read while at school where classroom and library books are
available for them. Many of these students do not have books at home, and often
their reading skills decline over the summer due to lack of practice.
Mrs. Foster’s class initiated a book drive for the “Books for Keeps” program,
soliciting donations of reading material from the school’s families. The week-long
drive brought in over 1,000 books which will be distributed to students in five Clarke
County schools.
The students had been learning about stewardship and servanthood in their
Bible lessons, and Mrs. Foster wanted to help them learn to put those lessons to practical use. The book drive was an excellent way to allow the students to serve as good
stewards by placing the gently used books in the hands of other students who would
benefit from receiving them. And counting them reinforced their own math skills!
Third grade student Dane Boswell was
the first recipient of the Christopher
Lee Newcomer Scholarship, established this year by an anonymous
donor in memory of a Prince Avenue
Christian School student who passed
away in 2011.
The scholarship is awarded to a
student who is nominated by teachers and chosen by a committe. The
student must demonstrate the same
qualities that made Christopher a special child--his Christ-like character and
passion for learning.
The $1,000 scholarship will be
awarded annually. Dane is pictured
with Christopher’s Mother Kattia
Blanco and Elementary Principal Bettyann Collinsworth.
Butler, Power to Attend Business Academy
Prince Avenue Christian School sophomores Ben Butler and Isaac Power were selected
from among hundreds of applicants to attend the prestigeous Terry College of Business Academy at the University of Georgia this summer.
The Business Academy is designed for rising juniors and seniors who are interested in business and entrepreneurship. The intensive week-long program provides
students an opportunity to explore the world of business through engaging speakers,
interactive workshops and hands-on experiences.
To qualify for admission to the program, the students must complete a rigorous
application and secure recommendations. The Academy experience will provide both
Ben and Isaac a better understanding of the field of business and help them to determine interests and career opportunities.

I loved what our Salutatorian Collyn Cown said about her classmates in her address to the seniors--- “Many of us have been together
at Prince for 12 or more years, and in this time, have been mentored
and taught to be optimistic, steadfast in spirit, humble, and resolute in
our respect and love for one another. We have reaped the personal blessings of experiencing for ourselves, and being witness to, the good that can be achieved by putting
service above self. We are a family like no other, who share in the joy of knowing and
being a part of something that’s bigger than ourselves.”
The Class of 2013 demonstrated a close bond with each other and with the entire
student body as they have led in one of the most successful years in the history of
PACS. Senior Devan Schwartz captured this spirit magnificently in his closing remarks
of his Valedictory Address--- “Remember that a great leader and a legacy that lasts
begins with a loving heart. We can love because Jesus first loved us. Therefore, let our
lives be characterized by love and let our service to God be “written not with ink but
with Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts”
so that we might run the “race of life” to get a “crown that will last forever.”
Thank you to Collyn, Devan, Epistle Award winner Vadeem Stamey and our entire
senior class for the excellent leadership you have demonstrated, your contributions
to PACS and for the positive way you have touched the lives of so many. Our prayers
are with you as you begin the next chapter of your lives.
May God bless each of you on your journey!
Blessings, Danny Howell

Wolverine athletes continue to shine throughout the spring sports season. Junior Anna Machovec won the school’s first state track
and field championships in both discus and shot put, while sophomore Sydney Henderson placed fourth in the high jump, fifth in
the 200 meter run, and sixth in the 100 meter race. Sophomore Sarah Beth Crowe was named to the All Area Tennis team, leading
the Lady Wolverines to the first round of the state tournament for the second year. The Wolverine baseball team’s future is catching on to success with a great 2013 season, falling just shy of qualifiying for the state tournament. The girls soccer team played
the first-ever state playoff game in Savannah in its inaugural varsity season, while the golf team, led by senior Wes Hendrix, found
success on the links. And Coach Herron’s varsity football players played the first annual Blue-White Spring game, giving fans a taste
of what is to come in the fall.
