LROR-July2015-Newsletter - Low Range Off Road Blog
The following morning we headed on towards Murphy Hogback which is a very steep and narrow section of trail. Use
caution here because there is no room for two vehicles to pass. At the top of the Hogback is Murphy A, B, and C camp
sites. This camp easily has some of the best views but the high winds at the top could be a nuisance for campers. The
descent from Murphy’s was another switchback shelf road and at the bottom the terrain slowly changed from steep and
twisty to flat and sandy. Here we traveled around the rim often coming within feet of the drop off to the Green River
below. After roughly 39 miles, day two driving was complete and we rolled into our final camp at Potato Bottom B. This
camp site is in very close proximity of the river but because of the thick undergrowth and steep muddy banks it’s not
worth making the walk. That night we enjoyed some juicy sirloins, loaded mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus.

What is Rock Therapy? It’s a Moab
adventure created by wheelers for wheelers.
It’s an outlet for many to get away and clear
their minds. It’s an excuse for many to take
their rigs out in one of the best known offroad trail systems in the country. It’s a
gathering created to bring together crowds
from all over North America and experience
what Moab has to offer.
From blown 3rd members and near-death
rollovers to a 2016 Tacoma and sponsor
dinners, there were many highlights that Always a highlight on Kane Creek is the numerous water

Toyota USA had brought out their 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road to show off while
they had on-hand a lead engineer to go over the new design features and answer any
questions the fellow Toyota enthusiasts had. The group photo this year was held again
at Area BFE with the 2016 Tacoma as the special guest and to top everything off,
during #TacomaTime, the attendees were treated to a taco dinner after the group
lineup. Another new addition to Rock Therapy this year was a sponsor pot luck dinner

that so many look forward to.
With ever growing number of gatherers,
the need for continuing sponsor support was
crucial in the success of Rock Therapy 2015.
This year Rock Therapy had a great
supporting cast including: Low Range Off
Road, Toytec Lifts, Pelfreybilt Off-Road,
Bay Area Metal Fabrication, All-Pro Off
Road, Warrior Products, Rebel Offroad, Cascadia Big turnout for #TacomaTime with Toyota USA and their 2016 Tacoma TRD Offroad
Vehicle Tents, Area BFE, CBI Off Road, PrInSu Design Studio, Beer Snap, RORCK, GKC Armory, Brute Force Fab,
Relentless Fabrication, Downsouth Motorsports, Addicted Offroad, InSain Fabrication, Emblem Art, RCI
Metalworks, Toywerx, Anti-Dark, TCT Magazine, Stay the Trail Colorado, and last minute contributions from ADS
Racing Shocks, Overland Empire, Frontrunner Outfitters, Goose Gear, ARB USA, Rigid Industries, Husky Liners
and Rockford Fosgate.
Rock Therapy saw some distant attendees this year coming
from all corners of the continent. There were trucks making the
trip from the East Coast from Virginia all the way up to Maine.
West Coast expanded its reach from SoCal all the way up the
Pacific Coast to British Columbia this year, as well as many of the
states in between the two big ponds.
After the sponsor dinner on Saturday night, the group gathered
for the big send-off including many generous giveaways from
the many sponsors who help make this weekend unforgettable.
From the children enjoying their youth to the
adults who refuse to grow up, this melting pot of
Toyota owners showed us once again why Rock
Therapy is a one of a kind gathering built for all
those who need to get away and clear their minds,

N
ick Schaefer here with Low
Range Racing and Captain Rob
Racing, updating you on the
Rangely W.E. Rock Competition.
We had a bit of a rough weekend,
this being my second comp behind
the wheel, there is still a definite
learning curve. We started on A1
feeling pretty good till I flopped in
the second gate while trying to
avoid a cone.
On A2 we were running through
quite well not hitting any cones,
only a few “backs” while trying to
get through gate 3. I got a bit
excited in an off camber spot, and
gassed it with my heavy foot,
causing a roll over on my right
side.
Going into A3 we were feeling
ok about it “thinking we can’t do
any worse.” So I walked right
through gate one, into gate two
not being able to find the traction
to climb up, eventually timing out.
On we went to A4. While trying
to climb up to gate one my heavy
foot struck again and rolling me
off a ten foot drop, ending day
one.

She has her own

when my husband was going to purchase this truck to put the axels under his
Samurai…it had a blown motor. Well, I asked
him….”If it only needs a motor, could you put
one in it, for me to drive offroad….”? He did,
as well as a ton of other things, and the Miss
Creant is now an awesome rig, both offroad

stayed like this for a couple years.
Then somehow I was able to get my
hands on some YJ leaf springs. I “red

PROJECT
T his is my 1987 Suzuki Samurai
"Rufus." She's my baby. I got her
without a scratch on the body 10 years
ago. The interior was pristine, and she
had just a basic SOA lift. Everything
but the engine was perfect. I was able
to buy a master rebuild kit for the motor
and started rebuilding my first engine. Three engines later, I finally learned
what a torque setting was! After finally
getting her to run right, I was able to
start doing a few other things, like
putting 4.16:1 gears in the T-case. It
on. But, that soon failed. So, I bought
the Trail-Tough missing link set for the
front and the rear. I got a set of Toyota
axles welded in, and after 9 more
engines . . . I was able to
“Frankenstein” a 1.6L 16Valve engine
together –– more power! It took my
friend and me a good 8 hrs. to do the
wiring harness. After a year of
wheeling with the locked Toyota axles, I
finally got power steering. Now she's
sitting pretty with a full roll cage, 33"
Toyos on 4.10:1 geared Toyota axles,
with the 4.16:1 T-case. She's my baby. [8]
