Inside, a sophisticated, functional and highly
luminous space creates a strong atmosphere and a
personal, rigorous style.
Located in one of the central streets of Digne Les Bains, the
Raoul Colomb boutique is an elegant street-front clothes
shop that projects an image of character and discretion.
Designed by architect Magali Guillemoz, the boutique’s
décor stands out for its minimalist design, essential stylistic
solutions and sober colour combinations.
The meticulous design of all the construction details is
accompanied by thorough attention to the finishes and
colours. In particular, the materials selected for the floor
and wall coverings not only meet the performance
requirements specified for this type of project but also play
a key role in determining the overall quality of the interior
space. The uniformity of the surfaces and the general
consistency of the colours are achieved by skilful use of the
porcelain tiles. The large-format tiles used on the floor and
the thin tiles on the walls and furnishings are an integral
part of the composition as well as technical components
and stylistic elements of the project and help to distinguish
the display and sales space in terms of interior architecture.
The textural consistency and warm, delicate colour of the

floor, laid out in a simple, regular pattern, accompanies
visitors as they move around inside the boutique, from the
external portico where the shop windows face onto the road
through to the entrance zone and on up the steps to the
raised level. The porcelain tiles diffuse light uniformly and
soften colours, enhancing the sensation of well-being and
ambient comfort and ensuring an accurate perception of the
items on display.
The same material, produced in the innovative Kerlite version,
is used to clad the outer façade as well as various furnishings
and architectural elements of the interior decor.
Produced in thin sheets of thickness just 3 mm and an
extraordinary 100x300 cm size, these sheets deliver the
technical characteristics, strength and resistance of porcelain
tile along with light weight, flexibility, workability and ease of
application.
Perfectly coordinated in a darker colour but the same series
as the floor tiles, the Kerlite sheet covers the structure of the
street-front double entranceway and also acts as a support
for the shop sign.
Inside the shop, the porcelain sheet is used as a wall finishing
layer for some architectural volumes and as a textural
enclosure for specific furnishing elements such as the counter,
the display shelves and units that reflect the stylistic motif of

crossroads between east and west; a city
protected by the Vitosha mountains and
dotted with the minarets of mosques and the
domes of cathedrals; a capital with wide treelined avenues and neo-baroque, neo-rococo
and neo-renaissance architectures blended with Viennese
secession and communist neoclassicism; a centre of music,
literature and art where Ottoman spas rub shoulders with
the oldest university in Eastern Europe: this is Sofia, capital
of new EU member country Bulgaria.
Sofia combines its historic and artistic heritage with a
burgeoning modernity, witnessed by the keen international
interest in the city, the booming economy and tourist
industry and the rapid pace of property development.
Although it has a population of more than 1,200,000
people, the city maintains its elegance without sacrificing
progress. Hotels, new residential complexes, large office
blocks and multifunctional centres are constantly adding
new landmarks to the urban skyline.
Right in the centre of the city, at the crossroads between
Cherni Vruh and Arsenanalski boulevard and close to Hotel
Helmus, City Center Sofia is the city’s first western-style
mall, developed by leading local investor Stroytown.
Outside, the building is defined by the dynamism of the
projecting cornices, steel pilasters that interrupt the
stoneware cladding and glass surfaces. Inside it is
dominated by the imposing full-height atrium. The heart of
this renovation project comprises a contemporary
transposition of an eighteen or nineteenth century

natural light filtering in through the large glass panel above
the entrance and through the skylight.
Facing onto the atrium are the balconies of the three upper
floors devoted to shopping and entertainment (there are also
two underground levels, the first containing a 500-space car
park and the second a supermarket). The entire second floor
is set aside for entertainment and offers an astounding choice
of eateries - from the technological sushi bar to the stylish
Italian restaurant with its panoramic view, from fast food to
take-away meals to be eaten at large tables, from the allAmerican Kentucky Fried Chicken to the European style bar,
from ice cream to the finest traditional Bulgarian pastries –
and an equally wide selection of films screened in the
Cineplex cinema halls. The three floors house more than 100
shops offering the finest international products: technology,
beauty products, jewellery, clothing, furniture, food (including
imports), sports articles and services (hairdressers, bank,
chemists, dry-cleaners, travel agents).
The quality of the shops and services is reflected in the
architecture, enhanced by the sophisticated elegance of del
Conca tiles. Given their high resistance to foot traffic, the
elegance and variety of colours and sizes (which allowed
unusual patterns to be used to differentiate between the
different areas), the porcelain tiles were chosen both for the
floor coverings on the three commercial levels and for walls

well-designed remodelling project must
take account of a series of intrinsic,
environmental, functional and aesthetic
factors that make it truly unique. Consider
for example a restaurant. The essential
function of a restaurant is to serve food, a function that
from a technical standpoint can be performed admirably
in any interior space, even one that is cold and
impersonal, provided it has a bare minimum of
equipment. But if this function is performed on premises
where the floor and wall coverings, the furniture and the
lighting have been designed not just to serve food but at
the same time to convey a sense of warmth and wellbeing to the clientele and to create an atmosphere, then
this will become a unique, customised project that has a
meaning and a soul and is capable of communicating with
and attracting customers. This is certainly the case of the
Restaurant La Grammoire in Vertou, France, ten
kilometres from Nantes, which was remodelled between
2003 and 2004. Customers immediately feel at ease when
they step inside the restaurant. The dining area is
intentionally informal, aimed at a mid-range clientele
seeking a homely rather than luxurious atmosphere. It is a
rectangular-shaped open space in which ample daylight
enters through the large side windows and central
skylight. Artificial lighting is provided by industrial type
pendant lamps in proximity to the skylight and recessed
spotlights mounted freely on the ceiling. The functional
spaces were divided up essentially through the judicious
use of four elements: the two-level floor connected by a
step of height of about 20 centimetres, the stained wood
slat parapets that protect and further enhance the two
levels, the tile layout pattern and the overall colour
scheme. The tables are in a typical French brasserie style,
as are the wooden chairs, although refined and made
more comfortable by the soft foam seat. Part of the
service counter accompanies the difference in height in
the floor, continuing for about 40 cm along the raised

section. Around the edge of the restaurant there are
benches and sofas arranged in such a way as to create a
greater sense of intimacy. Wall-mounted blackboards
advertise the dishes of the day and also have a decorative
function together with the attractive display of vintage
coffee grinders. The restaurant’s pleasing décor is
dominated by the bright colours of the furniture, which
would probably be overpowering were it not corrected by
the colour variations of the floor, consisting of a
meticulously designed layout of porcelain tiles supplied
by Impronta Italgraniti. The designer chose colours Ochre
and Cardinal Red in a rectified 30x30 cm size with a
natural finish and colours Grey, Green and Blue in a 15x15
cm size. The alternation of tile sizes and colours described
above is without doubt the key element in visually
delimiting the restaurant’s functional spaces.

he secret to a successful architectural project
often lies in the materials that are used. The
overall quality and technological, functional and
stylistic characteristics of these materials are crucial to the success of the project, whether it is an
urban plaza, an up-market mall or a residential sauna. In all
these aspects, ceramic tiles offer considerable support for
designers. Their enormous variety makes them ideal for use
in public spaces, while in residential applications they create a sense of continuity between the interior and the terrace or garden. These properties are the end result of tireless research into new products capable of adapting to the
ever-changing needs of contemporary architecture. Out of
the various characteristics of this multifunctional and versatile material, we have chosen five, one for each major trend

CERAMIC TILES
THE SEDUCTION OF MATERIAL
NEODÉCOR
This trend is dominated by “metropolitan chic” tones with
a predilection for all shades of grey (concrete, loft look).
It favours textures and unique three-dimensional shapes
that change their appearance according to the incident
light, as well as tiles that feature a play of opposites:
black designs on a white background, metallic and oxidation effects.
This creates an original, surprising contrast between the
luminous appeal of materials such as steel and the warmth
and comfort of leather. These tiles tend to be used on
free-standing baths with clean, clear-cut styles and on
ventilated facades where they absorb vibrations and compensate for thermal expansion. They can also have an
interesting function as a wall painting that becomes the
highlight of a sitting room or kitchen.
The use of pastiches and free combinations of historical periods and floral motifs to create exotic arabesques and visual
patterns with a strong seventies appeal. This trend makes
extensive use of flowers in interior design: extra-large,
stylised but always graphic. Ranges with saturated, glossy
colours are enjoying a revival, as are old-fashioned surfaces
such as Chinese lacquer. We are also seeing a boom in heterogeneous collections that include a range of materials such as
micro-mosaic, glass strips, porcelain tile, painting and stucco.
Designers create daring, nonchalant combinations of shapes
and sizes (very often rectangular) and listels, which become
the words of a new domestic lexicon just waiting to be discovered. This gives sensational visual qualities to an interior and
creates panels and perspectives that alone determine the
character of the entire domestic or non-domestic installation.

GEOMETRIC AND LINEAR MOTIFS
The art of ceramic tiling draws inspiration from the world of
fashion and plays a key role in defining public and private
spaces.
ORGANIC HABITAT
Achieves a perfect blend of nature and structure and stirs
emotions. Ceramic is envisaged as a third skin, the first
being the cutaneous tissue enclosing the human body and
the second our clothes. This is why manufacturers sometimes opt for the dark tones of coffee and sometimes the
pale tones of sand. Hi-tech nature is a dominant theme in
research in the fields of architecture and interior design in
general. Tiles draw inspiration from the splendid surface
patterns of natural stone while delivering characteristics
that are far superior to those found in nature. At the same
time, the concepts of bioarchitecture and ecology are gaining ground and extra-large sizes are being explored. Frostresistant, non-absorbent and non-slip tiles are available for
exterior spaces characterised by a perfect blend of design
and nature. Another area of inspiration is the appeal of dis-
19
tant lands, the mysteriousness of India or the primordiality
of Africa, ideal for floor and wall coverings in terraces and
gardens. The imperfect surfaces are bushhammered or
hewn, sometimes patinaed and occasionally embellished by
unusual lines, cuts and shapes. Thickness is a particularly
important characteristic for these applications. Old-style
floor tiles can be as thick as 15 millimetres, fashionable
kitchen countertops just a few millimetres.
TOTAL WELLNESS AND SPA STYLE
An oriental allure for polished surfaces with pleasant tactile
qualities. This category reflects the “soft touch” concept
typical of digital controls, where it is sufficient to touch an
intelligent panel to turn on a light and a small variation in
pressure to control its intensity. Tiles incorporating LEDs or
glass parts to enhance tactile characteristics and create visible/hidden effects are already at the experimental stage.
The barely hinted tones are dominated by light blues and
hues selected for their calm, relaxing atmospheres, as well
as colours used in chromatherapy to create multisensorial

effects even in restricted spaces. They are used for covering surfaces in large shower enclosures to create microcosms of warmth and comfort, public and private hammams. In all shades of turquoise they are ideal for lining
swimming and leisure pools
BABEL STYLE
Or the “communicating” tile. This is a niche trend with a very
strong expressive impact that is particularly popular amongst
young people. Matter becomes words and numbers, it plays
with writing, it is shaped to create ironic and hyper-decorative motifs ranging from crocodile skin to wood grain and
woven mats. Mosaic is used, but with round tesserae. The
golden rule for colour is “no half measures”. The preferred
tones are strong and bold like a painting by Picasso or fresh
and relaxing shades reminiscent of a David Hockney.
Alternatively, they have the lightness of colourless tones such
as white, ivory and silver. They are used for large areas such
as ceramic rugs, tiles decorated like fabrics and surfaces
livened up here and there with fragments of rhinestone. The
21
ideal area of application would not be just a warm and hospitable residential environment, but also fashionable bars,
restaurants and discothèques. We are seeing a tendency to
mix styles and break out of the mould. The end result of
these “creative miscellanies” is a house or in general an architecture that meets aesthetic and emotional as well as functional criteria. As the sociologist Giampaolo Fabris commented in a recent conference, “We have moved from a modern
to a post-modern society characterised by fluidity, ambiguity, liquidity, multilocalisation and eclecticism. Consumers are
flâneurs, curious individuals who want to explore and navigate the web.” This last trend brings us to our final consideration: that ceramic tile is a material without frontiers. The
word “cosmopolitanism”, referring to today’s fascinating
blend of cultures and peoples, has made its way into everyday language. As a result, even such an apparently simple
object as a tile has the power to make us citizens of the
world, bringing influences from all over the planet to bear on
our lifestyle and interior design choices.

T
he Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture Building,
part of Florida International University in Miami,
USA, was designed by internationally acclaimed
architect Bernard Tschumi. The Swiss-born
architect, whose theories have been published in
books such as “Architecture and Disjunction”, wanted to
create an environment in which the architecture would play
a role of activity generator. “I didn’t want the project to be
merely a receptacle for classrooms, laboratories and offices
but wanted to create a public space that would foster
interaction between students, lecturers and visitors,” he
explained. The project was conceived as a miniature city in
which the functional aspects of the spaces would be
interrelated with other activities of everyday life and
culture. The four buildings that make up the project
differed in terms of both functions and appearance. Two of
them are simple white buildings that house the studios,
classrooms and offices. Between these two long blocks are
interposed a further two small buildings with quite distinct
architecture separated by an open courtyard intended for
use by both university members and the general public.
One of these, the red building, contains the 200-seat
auditorium, a café and a partly covered terrace open for
use by the public. The other yellow building houses an art
gallery and the library.

According to Bernard Tschumi, the concept behind these two
elements is that of “activity generators”, so they need to be
highly visible, surprising and exciting. Their unusual shape,
like two small sculptures created through a process of folding
surfaces, clearly sets them apart from the two long minimalist
buildings. To further accentuate this diversity, the architect
decided to use colour. He chose ceramic tiles as the surface
covering material after examining other options including
paint and coloured bricks that were unable to create the
effect he was looking for. “What I had clear in my mind was
that I wanted very bright colours, so I began to consider the
possibility of using ceramic tiles,” he said. “I examined the
feasibility of my idea because I was concerned about the
wear-resistance of tiles on exterior surfaces. I wanted to be
sure that they would withstand wear appropriately. Once it
was ascertained that tiles could be used, I chose the colours
and created a palette ranging from red to pale yellow, or to
be more precise from medium red to orange and dark yellow
through to pale yellow. The texture of the cladding changes
from one building to the other and between different parts of
the same building and is created using a seemingly random
pixelation effect. The building containing the auditorium is
clad with medium red and orange coloured tiles while the
building housing the art gallery and the library is clad with

pened last October just outside London, the
Mercedes Centre is a building that defies
description. Located close to Brooklands,
the historic race circuit founded a hundred
years ago, the Mercedes-Benz World
complex cost GBP 20 million to build.
As the name suggests, it is a building intended to showcase
the whole world of Mercedes, from the German car-maker’s
century of history through to its most recent models and
associated lifestyle. Designed by Aukett Fitzroy Robinson
(AFR), the complex is designed to accommodate 300,000
visitors a year and caters in particular for families, who are
invited to spend a whole day exploring the world of
Mercedes-Benz. The major historic brands are capitalising
on the social phenomenon in which the number of people
visiting airports - whether or not they are accompanying
passengers - now outnumber those who are actually
travelling! The Brooklands project is a blend of shopping
centre, museum and airport, the so-called “non-places”
where one cannot stay or sleep but it is possible to walk
around, wait, meet people, eat, learn, relax and make
purchases of various kinds. Stepping into this dazzling
world of Mercedes, the visitor finds himself at the centre of
an atrium dominated by a 21 metre high curved window.
An escalator leads to the upper floors where a 7,500 square

QUALITY,
ITALIAN TILES MEASURE
UP TO STANDARDS
by Alfredo Zappa
C
eramic tiles are unique amongst floor and wall covering materials in terms of
their aesthetic and technological qualities. This not only means high
performance characteristics, which can be measured and certified by means
of the standards, but also the intrinsic characteristics of the production
process which allow a number of very different qualities to be combined in a
single tile. In general the market offers a wide range of comparable materials. Alongside
ceramic tiles there are products made of stone, composites, metal, polymers, natural
and synthetic fibres, wood and other materials. Designers are well aware that each
material must be chosen, installed and used correctly to assure that the characteristics
and therefore the nature, composition and structure of the specified materials come
up to the user’s aesthetic and technical expectations. This is why in certain, not
necessarily extreme, situations there may be very limited alternatives if a project
is approached in a technically correct and cost-effective manner.
In a complex situation like the one we have just described, ceramic tiles offer a
wide range of technical, aesthetic and economic options. Modern ceramic
technology is capable of reproducing any colour, motif or decoration, without
considering the surface finishes, through-body pigments, three-dimensional
textures and much more. Whether they are extruded or pressed, glazed or
unglazed, ceramic tiles come in a wide range of product types (double
and single fired, clinker and terracotta, glazed and through-bodied
porcelain tile) suitable for the most varied applications.
At the same time their characteristics of functionality and durability allow
them to serve their technical purpose to perfection.
Italian ceramic tiles also offer outstanding levels of
excellence in terms of user safety with respect
to other materials by virtue of their
chemical and physical inertia,

easily cleanable surfaces, the continuity between adjacent
elements, their non-slip characteristics, incombustibility and
absence of toxic emissions in the event of fire. Last but not
least, their functional and aesthetic qualities are totally
unaffected by water and sunlight.
At a time of great attention to environmental issues, ceramic
tile also offers major ecological advantages. Its
environmental impact over its entire lifecycle (from raw
materials extraction through to demolition and disposal of
debris) is not only lower than that of other surface finishing
materials but has also significantly
decreased over the years as a
result of intensive innovation in
terms of technology and plant
engineering. The Italian tile
industry has been working hard to
reduce its environmental impact
since the early 1970s. Ceramic
companies were amongst the first in Italy and Europe to take
part in EMAS (Eco Management and Auditing Scheme) and
the sector is now at the forefront in the use of technologies
for minimising both environmental dispersion of polluting
substances and the consumption of resources such as water
and energy. Suffice it to think that the entire sector now
consumes the same quantity of energy as it did thirty years
ago in spite of the fact that production has now more than
doubled and modern products are more energy intensive.
As we have said, one of the key characteristics of ceramic
tiles is the wide range of

major sporting event like the 2nd Asian
Indoor Games to be held in Macao at the end
of October inevitably attracts enormous
media attention, focused both on the
athletes and the architectural quality of the
facilities. Sports venues, especially those like aquatic
centres where the water reflects and enhances the light,
tend to be subject to considerable legislative requirements.
When sports facilities combine beauty with functionality,
they fully express the Vitruvian paradigm that distinguishes
a work of architecture from a generic building. The Aquatic
Centre in Macao, built in less than a year, is an outstanding
example of Italian excellence. The centre makes extensive
use of ceramic tiles and as Italy is the leading tile producer
country it could hardly fail to be a key partner in such an
important project. The tiles for the facility were supplied by
Floor Gres, the historic Florim Group brand. Swimming
pool projects are an acid test of the completeness of a
company’s product range and its knowledge of swimming
facilities. Furthermore, being a competitive facility, it was
necessary to meet the stringent requirements imposed by
the various sports organisations. The Olympic pools satisfy
all the required characteristics and meet the FINA

Naturally there was a strong focus on the characteristics of
safety, hygiene, customisation, harmony, style and colour.
The client chose tiles from the Piscine Floor Gres series for
their outstanding technical characteristics and their superior
dimensional tolerances to competitor materials. By using
three different production technologies (pressing, casting
and extrusion), Floor Gres optimises the performance
characteristics of the various materials and their applications
in the aquatic centre. The ceramic tiles chosen for the sides
and bottom of the pools feature colours and glazes specially
designed to enhance luminosity and create easily cleanable
surfaces. The basic colour used is pale turquoise with black
strips to create the lanes. The Bordo Vasca “Elba 5” pool
edge, made up of specific trim pieces (Mod. 3 and 2/25), is
the best solution currently available for competitive pools.
The small beach sloping down to the pool edge is not only
visually appealing but also dampens the waves created by
the swimmers which can refract and penalise competitors in
outer lanes due to refraction. In addition to the pool itself,
the area adjacent to the pools, the public seating area and
the external access ramps to the facility are also clad with
Italian ceramic tiles, this time in colours white and ochre
yellow.

A
fragment of Italy has found a place in the
heart of the German city of Magdeburg,
where work on the restoration of the
Rathaus, the old town hall, was recently
completed.
Facing onto the central square of the Alter Markt, the old
market, the town hall has always been the symbol of this
city with its strange name of the “town of women”.
During the reign of Otto I the Great in the 10th century,
the city acquired strategic importance with the
foundation of the archbishopric and later became famous
for the Magdeburg rights, codified in the 12th century by
archbishop Wichmann.
The town hall, located on the eastern side of the square,
has had a complex and troubled history consisting of a
sequence of demolitions and reconstructions, like the
phoenix rising from its ashes.
First constructed in the 12th century, it was partially
destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War in 1631. All that
remained of this first nucleus were the rooms where town
council meetings were held.
From 1691 to 1698, the town hall was rebuilt under the
direction of Heinrich Schmutze. It was a two-floor
renaissance style sandstone building, identical to the one
that has now taken its place at number 6 in the square.

On 16 January 1945, during the Second World War, it
took just thirty minutes of Anglo-American bombing to
level most of the city’s historic centre, including the town
hall itself.
The latest rebuilding dates from 1965 to 1969. The town
hall was reconstructed according to the seventeenth
century original with an exterior façade consisting of two
rows of arches divided into a stone block base and an
upper section punctuated by ionic pilasters. The central
pronaos constitutes the main entrance, where the bronze
door is the work of sculptor Heinrich Apel.
The recent restoration and remodelling work was needed
to adapt the town hall complex to the current
requirements of the administration, city council and
political groups. The Bahlo Kohnke und Partner firm of
architects of Hanover was commissioned to carry out the
project.
The most important modifications involved building
additional staircases and installing lifts and ramps to
improve public access to the whole of the structure. This
public nature of the building is also underscored by the
grandiose central atrium with its large windows opening
onto the market square.
In addition to the council meeting room, fitted out with
the latest communication technologies, the restoration
work also involved the various rooms of the municipal
authorities and a number of conference rooms.
The areas for use by the public include a number of large
halls with vaulted ceilings housing exhibitions and
events. It was in this busiest area that Italian tiles were
chosen as the floor covering.
Grey porcelain tiles from Ceramiche Marca Corona,
reminiscent of the original stone, were installed in a
continuous surface running through several of the rooms
in the Rathaus, creating a sober but highly effective
visual impact. This is an outstanding example of a
contemporary material used to great effect in an existing
historic building of considerable public and institutional
importance.

he mediaeval town of Montelupo Fiorentino is
located in the heart of the Renaissance land of
Tuscany, just 15 kilometres from Florence and
close to great cities of art such as Pisa and
Siena.
Montelupo has a time-honoured tradition in ceramic
artisanship and today continues to be one of the leading
Italian centres of ceramic production within the Empoli
manufacturing district.
It is in the centre of this Tuscan town, a place steeped in
history and memories, that today one can hear footsteps
ringing out on the clinker pavings in the silence of the
night. After all, the name “clinker” derives from the Dutch
“Klinkaerd” and “Klinken”, which means “to ring out”.
The ancient and the ultra-modern stand side by side in
today’s Montelupo. Functionality blends with continuous
aesthetic improvement in keeping with the distinctive
features of each location, a philosophy that was in fact the
cornerstone of the growth of Italian towns and cities in the
past.
In the redevelopment of Montelupo Fiorentino’s historic
town centre, the town council’s planning group
cooperated with KlinkerSire to achieve its aim of
maintaining the appeal of the historic centre while
improving its functionality in terms of culture, tourism and
city life.
The architectural development work was conducted in a
number of stages, starting out from Piazza della Libertà

The pavings in all these areas were restored using clinker
combined with bushhammered pink granite.
The project used products designed specifically for this
application which were commissioned directly by the town
council’s Planning Group coordinated by architects Nino
Gandolfo and Silva Niccolai. The designers chose the
materials according to the technological and aesthetic
requirements they would have to satisfy. Architect Silva
Niccolai explained, “As the product was to be used on public
squares and pavements, it needed to have high technical
characteristics including durability and resistance to wear,
foot traffic and frost. It should not discolour when exposed
to sunlight and should be non-slip and easy to clean.”
In accordance with the aesthetic and architectural
requirements of the area, the new clinker pavings enhance
these places with warmth, harmony and a sense of history
while assuring outstanding strength and resistance. At the

Garfloor presents Pietrapece:
tiles for connoisseurs
P
ietrapece has two unique sensorial
qualities that add to its appeal for
discerning users: its visual depth
and its soft touch and appearance. The
visual depth gives the surface a greater
luminosity that appears to originate
from within the tile itself. The soft touch
and appearance is achieved by a
waxing and lapping process using
special floating grinding wheels during
the surface finishing operations. What
makes Pietrapece truly unique is the
combination of both types of
technology with procedures adopted in
the Garfloor laboratories to enhance its
aesthetic qualities.
Pietrapece comes in a range of medium
to large sizes with two different types of
edge, rectified and uniform, catering
for the most advanced markets with a
preference for modern styles. Two of
the three sizes are modular, allowing for
highly

solutions. The large selection of mosaic
trim pieces further increases the
compositional scope, making this
collection ideal for use on walls as well
as floors.

Arreda, the starting point for
any style from Caesar
C
aesar is presenting Arreda, a new
porcelain tile collection and a
starting point for any style,
whether avant-garde, metropolitan,
ethnic, pop, classic or minimal-Zen.
Woven patterns and soft, pleasant
textures are reminiscent of far-off
locales, exotic flavours and colours. The
unique modernity of Arreda suggests
metropolitan tastes and trends. It
enhances the spaces and dynamism of
interiors and is suitable for use on floors
and walls in a wide range of
applications. The series stands out for
the harmony of its two-tone design, its
lightly contrasting weaves and its
graceful, elegant texture. Arreda is also
suitable for classic interiors with a
modern orientation. With Arreda the
minimalist trend takes on a Zen soul. The
sizes, clean edges and light patterns fit
in with the most sophisticated settings,
creating an interior design in tune with
one’s own personality.
The single-calibre, squared and rectified series has
an 11 mm thickness and comes in eight colours:
Neutra (white), Innova (beige), Liberty (light
green), Dada (cream), Fusion (yellow), Glam
(brick), Etno (dark brown) and Contempora (grey).
Available in 60x60 cm, 30x60 cm, 14.7x60 cm,
2.1x60 cm and 2.1x2.1 cm sizes. It is complemented by the innovative Zip shaped profile, whose
clear shapes and precise lines supersede the traditional concept of colour coordination, and the
Shanghai and Stripe accents composed of meshmounted listels in various colour combinations.
