1. Write down name and phone number for EVERYONE you talk to and keep a file of these
contacts regarding each issue.
2. Be honest when asking for help and ask questions. If there is anything you are unclear
about (procedures, requirements, eligibility, etc.) make sure you ask someone.
3. Keep calling. If you leave a message and have not heard back in 24-48 hours Call Again.
4. If you are referred to an agency, ask what information you need to bring when you go to
the agency.

The Coalition for the Homeless strives to prevent and eliminate homeless in Louisville through
advocacy, education and the coordination of 30 member agencies that provide housing, food,
clothing, health care and legal services to the homeless – men, women, children, families and
veterans.
They provide centralized reservations of beds for the night and a centralized waiting list for
housing for homeless families.
Bed One Stop is the centralized way to secure a bed at any of Louisville’s emergency centers for
the night. Homeless persons can go to 1300 South 4th St., Suite 200 Monday through Friday
from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM to reserve a bed or they can call (502) 637-BEDS (2337) from 10:00
AM -2:00 PM seven days a week.

Seven Counties Services, Inc. is the leading provider of behavioral healthcare and
developmental services. They provide services for persons with severe mental illness, children
with severe emotional and behavior disorders and adults and teens with additions. They also
provide case management for people experiencing homelessness and have severe mental
illness.
Emergency Services - Seven Counties:
Hope Now Hotline: (502) 589-4313 or 1-800-221-0446 Crisis Hotline is open 24 hours, 7
days a week. A counselor speaks with the caller and provides crisis intervention.
Teens hotline: Call WAVE3 “It’s Your Life” Helpline at (502) 589-8727 or 1-866-589-8727.
Acute Child Psychiatry Service: (502) 589-8070 or 1-800-432-4510 Available 24 hours, 7
days a week to arrange for an assessment – within hours – for your child to determine what
services are needed.
Emergency Psychiatry Services: go to 530 S. Jackson in University Hospital Emergency
room. Specialized social workers and University Hospital doctors will work with you and
your family to stabilize the emergency and refer you to outpatient services at Seven
Counties.
Non-Emergency Services - Seven Counties:
Adult Mental Health Services: recovery focused services for severe depression, bi-polar
disorder or schizophrenia. Call the Access Center at (502) 589-1100 or 1-800-264-8799 to

The Center provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling and advocacy for
victims of intimate partner abuse or sexual violence. Clients include men and gay, lesbian,

To obtain housing through any of our four programs, an applicant must first call the Kentucky
Coalition for the Homeless to register at (502) 637-BEDS (2337) before 3:00PM MondayFriday. Once registration is complete the applicant must make an appointment with the
Common Assessment Team to be evaluated for placement in housing.
Women and families experiencing homelessness find "A Place to Call Home" through Norma's
House, the Marijane Toney House, Martie's House, and Single Supported Housing on
Muhammad Ali Blvd. In addition to permanent supported housing, Choices, Inc. also provides
case management to each client. Each resident attends life skills training and house meetings
while in the program.

The Home of the Innocents provides:
 Residential and community-based services to children who have been abused,
abandoned, or neglected. These services include short or long-term residential care, a
home for pregnant and parenting teens, crisis shelter services, and therapeutic loving foster
care services.


The Home operates Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center for medically fragile
children, who are dependent on technology to sustain life, as well as children who are
terminally ill.
In-home and in-school support services are provided for children with autism. The Home
provides these families with a wide-range of services and effective treatment with lower
overall costs.
Home of the Innocents is the state’s largest emergency placement center. That means our staff
is ready 24 hours a day to offer a safe place for children who have been removed from their
homes because of abuse, abandonment or neglect. The Home cares for infants to age 18.

The House of Ruth provides housing and support services to individuals and families in which
someone has HIV/AIDS and came to them homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Interlink Counseling Services is the largest provider of transitional housing for Veterans in
Kentucky. Interlink provides a comprehensive plan of integrated care for individuals and
families suffering from an addiction or a mental health issue. It provides chemical dependency
treatment and education through in-patient transitional residency programs and outpatient
programs. Additionally, Interlink provides outpatient services such as marriage and family
therapy, group counseling, DUI offender education and case management.
Interlink transitional recovery housing for veterans include:
Landing Zone – a safe-off-the-streets recovery program for homeless men to detox from
alcohol or drug addiction
Harmony House Residential Treatment – a 3 to 6 month recovery program to stabilize physical
and mental health issues which includes intensive case management support
Genesis House Transitional Living – up to 24 months transitional housing that includes
education in life skills and relapse prevention sessions
Serenity Court Apartments – for people who complete a defined treatment program with
Interlink and who want to live in an alcohol/drug free residence

The Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) goal is to provide quality, affordable housing for
those in need, assist residents in their efforts to achieve financial independence, and work with

Louisville Rescue Mission is one of the area’s primary providers of emergency daytime services
for people experiencing homelessness. Guests can get breakfast, sign up for mail services,
securely store their belongings or take showers. Counseling from our staff is also available to
discuss options regarding our recovery programs or other service providers in the area.

Life Change is a nine month residential program for men whose lives are out of control as a

Operation Care's transitional housing provides the "next step" to those re-entering standard
housing. Our residents pay reduced rent and become accountable for their finances as we assist
them on their journey to becoming self-sufficient again.

St. John’s Center serves homeless men with mental illness, complicated and chronic health
issues, drug or alcohol addiction and poverty. The Emergency Day Shelter and Social Services
Center provides access to hot showers, mail, fax and phone service, coffee and cold water,
assistance with job and housing referrals, mental health counseling, assistance filling out food
stamp and disability claims, assistance acquiring birth certificates and identification letters for
regular clients, and notary public service. St. John’s also has a Permanent Housing Program.

The Family Emergency Shelter provides safe emergency shelter for families who become
homeless due to a wide range of factors. The shelter's hallmark is a commitment to serving the
whole family in one location. The program also provides individualized case management,
housing placement, and other services to help families transition back to the community and
become self-sufficient.
The Family Transitional Housing Program offers a place for the family to live for two years after
leaving the Volunteers of America’s Family Emergency Shelter. The program offers intensive
case management, addressing needs in the areas of housing, employment, education, mental
and physical health, child-related issues, finances, and support services. Case management is
tailored to each family’s needs and the family participates in all goal setting. Families in the
Transitional Housing Program pay a service fee, which is equal to 30 percent of their income.
Financial assistance is available to aid families with work, education, or training expenses,
housing-related start-up expenses, transportation, child care, medicine, clothing, and other
expenses that promote greater client self-sufficiency.
