Gunold POLY Polyester Thread
TM
Our 100% polyester thread is manufactured in Germany and is designed specifically
for high-speed, commercial embroidery and monogramming machines. It is very
pliable, making it easy with which to work. Though it has a beautiful, silky sheen, it
can withstand chlorine bleaching and harsh, industrial laundering. Use is once and it
will become your mainstay thread.
Gunold Poly 40 wt. (den 120/2) is available in 300 dynamic colors on 1,100 yd.
Mini-King cones and 5,500 yd. regular cones. For smaller, or more delicate designs
like monograms and mini-logos, use Gunold Poly 60 wt. thread (den 70/2). Our Poly
60 wt. thread is available in 54 colors on 1,650 yd. Mini-King cones.

SOLVY® is an amazing, water soluble plastic film. It is used to prevent the stitches from
getting lost in the nap of knitwear garments. It also prevents the loops from jumping
up on terrycloth during the embroidery process. SOLVY® allows much more detail to be
seen on any intricate design. It is not to be used on velvet, corduroy or silk.
Using SOLVY® is easy. Just follow these steps:
a. Place SOLVY® on top of fabric or hoop it in with the fabric,
b. After the embroidery process is complete, tear-away the larger areas of SOLVY®
inside and outside of the design,
c. Dissolve SOLVY® on very small areas by lightly misting with water. The residue
will disappear and be removed from the fabric at first washing. (Note that
embroidery should not be left damp or wet longer than a few minutes.)
d. On larger areas, mist lightly to dissolve SOLVY®. After a few seconds the
dissolved SOLVY® residue may be removed with a damp sponge or cloth.
NOTE: SOLVY® should be kept in a closed plastic bag.

This popular material adds dimension to your embroidery. Puffy FoamTM is made of
ethylene vinyl acetate. It is water resistant, non-toxic and can be machine washed
and dry-cleaned. Please note that this product is flammable. Puffy FoamTM comes
in thicknesses of 2mm, 3mm, 4mm and 6mm. Colors vary per sheet size. Use
Gunold’s KK100 to help hold Puffy Foam in place. See our website for information.

Specialty Backings from Germany
Heat N’ Seal is a sealing film which permanently
heat seals patches and emblems onto all
commonly used fabrics. It is a polyamid hot-melt
adhesive, supplied as a film on silicone release
paper. Order Type H for use with a household iron.
Type J is to be used with a fusing press.
THERMOfilmTM
This is a heat-sensitive film which can be completly removed after embroidering.
It is an alternative to using regular backing when you do not want residue on the

“burn-away” or “aetz-cloth.” It is used in the following situations:
a. On top of fabrics that cannot get wet, like corduroy or velvet, to keep stitches
from sinking in and getting lost.
b. To create “free-standing” embroidery. Just hoop Heat AwayTM and embroider directly
onto it. After removing the Heat AwayTM, only the embroidered pattern remains.
After the embroidery process is complete, adjust your flat-iron or your thermopress to the temperature for lining (approximately 430°F). Press the garment for 15
seconds. During this process, the Heat AwayTM disintegrates. The remaining fibers,
in the embroidered pattern, must be brushed out. A soft-bristle brush works best.
Heat AwayTM must be protected against moisture, heat and sun. It should be stored
in a closed plastic bag. Embroidered patterns from which Heat Away is not removed
immediately should also be stored in a closed plastic bag. Heat Away does not
become useless if stored incorrectly, but it will be more difficult to remove.

HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT HEAT N’ SEAL
* TYPE H: This type has been designed for use with a household iron. It will
withstand dry cleaning and a warm water wash cycle (up to 100°F) after it has
been allowed to dry for 48 hours.
**TYPE J: This type has been designed to be applied with a fusing press. It will
withstand dry cleaning and boiling water after it has dried for 48 hours.
STEP 1: Tack Heat N’ Seal to the back of the embroidery. It is important that
neither the temperature nor the pressure be too high in this first step.
a. TYPE H: Put the iron setting on wool or about 220°F. Keep the iron moving for
10-15 seconds. If using fusing press with Type H you only need 4-6 seconds at
three pounds per square inch (psi).
b. TYPE J: Set the fusing press to 275°F at 3-4psi for 4-5 seconds.
You are now ready to trim the embroidery and remove the silicone paper.
STEP 2: Fuse embroidery to the garment.
a. TYPE H: When possible, the heat of the iron should come through the garment
during Step 2. This means that the embroidery should be face down with the
garment over it when the heat of the iron is being applied. This will draw the
adhesive from the embroidery to the garment. The temperature setting for the
iron should be on high or linen during this application. We suggest you press
vigorously for 20-30 seconds.
b. TYPE J: The fusing press temperature needs to be set higher; about 330°F. The
pressure should be set between 5-20 psi for about 10-15 seconds.
Please allow Heat N’ Seal to dry at least 48 hours for the most effective use. All of
the above are averages to serve as guidelines. Adjustments may need to be made
to reflect thickness and heat flow through the fabrics used. Thicker fabrics require
higher pressure. Time and pressures can be varied. Higher temperatures allow
shorter fusing time.

Cover the BackTM prevents a coarse embroidery design
from touching sensetive skin. Great for baby
apparel, polo shirts, lingerie, sports
apparel, or any embroidery that

For best results, cut Cover the
BackTM one half inch larger than
your design. Place coarse fusible
side down, over the back of the design.
Using a heat press at 250°- 270° degrees with
pressure set at 3-4 bars, press for 10 to 14 seconds. A

HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT FLAT AND TUBULAR EMBROIDERY
Determining whether you are embroidering flat or tubular is the first step in deciding which hoop
is right for you. Generally speaking, most tubular embroidery is sewn with the machine table
dropped or removed so that the garment may hang freely around the bobbin arm. The entire
hoop is removed from the machine when each garment is completed then re-hooped with a new
garment.
Flat embroidery is sewn with a spider hoop setup. The adjusting ring and inner ring are hooped
and inserted in the spider frame, which remains attached to the machine. All flat sewing is done
with the table in the “up” position. There are certain instances, on some machines, that tubular
hoops may be used with the table up.
Durkee only manufactures tubular hoops at this time.

ITEM NO. DESCRIPTION HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT DURKEE EMBROIDERY HOOPS
When is tighter looser? Many embroidery hoops, including those manufactured by Durkee
Embroidery, have brass adjusting screws that fit inside sleeves hidden within the hoop. This
type of screw is designed to be tightened with the thumb and forefinger before the inner hoop
is inserted.
When the inner ring is placed in the outer ring, the adjusting screw is set; further tightening
only breaks the lock achieved with the insertion of the inner hoop. Never tighten this style of
hoop with pliers or another tool. Hand tighten only, and only before the inner hoop is inserted.
