PolyFIRE® Fire-Retardant Thread
PolyFIRE fire-retardant thread is ideal for embroidery on firefighters’ uniforms, lab coats,
chef’s blouses and any other textile exposed to open flame. This 100% polyester thread has
a special coating which prevents the thread from easily catching fire and is tested EN ISO Oeko-Tex Certificate.
We carry 27 colors of PolyFIRE available in 40 wt. thread (den 115/2) on 1,100 yd. Mini-King
cones and nine colors on 5,500 yd. Regular cones.

SULKY® Rayon Thread
A European, 100% ENKA®, rayon thread with a shiny, silky luster. Its high tensile strength
makes it especially suitable for all high-speed embroidery machines. This is a strong,
beautiful thread with a luster like no other. It is also available in shaded and multicolors.

Our 100% polyester thread is manufactured in Germany and is designed specifically
for high-speed, commercial embroidery and monogramming machines. It is very
pliable, making it easy with which to work. Though it has a beautiful, silky sheen, it can
withstand chlorine bleaching and harsh, industrial laundering. Use our polyester thread
once and it will become your mainstay thread.
Gunold Poly 40 wt. (den 120/2) is available in 300 dynamic colors on 1,100 yd. MiniKing cones and 5,500 yd. Regular cones. For smaller, or more delicate designs like
monograms and mini-logos, use Gunold Poly 60 wt. thread (den 70/2). Our Poly 60 wt.
thread is available in 54 colors on 1,650 yd. Mini-King cones.

Gunold GLITTER Thread
For sheer razzle-dazzle, you can’t beat the shimmering effect of Gunold’s sparkling
GLITTER thread. This is a thin, flat, ribbon-like polyester film which is metalized with an
aluminum, holographic layer to give it brilliant reflectiveness. GLITTER is available in gold,
silver, red, blue, green and multicolor.
The duration and intensity of exposure to sunlight (or artificial light) determines the
intensity of the luminous effect. The luminesence will last up to 50 washings under
normal use and care.
FLUORTM is white in color and 100% polypropylene. It is suitable for running deisigns requiring a
40 wt. thread (den 120/2) and is available in 1,100 yd. Mini-King cones.

GLOWY Fluorescent Thread
Like FLUORTM, our GLOWY fluorescent thread glows in the dark with a yellow/green
color. GLOWY differs by being available in seven thread colors, which makes it useful for
multicolored logos, more elaborate designs, or safety applications.

Need to add a little sizzle to your next project? Gunold’s METY metallic thread consists
of a polyester core wrapped with a metallic foil. Embroidering with this unique thread
produces eye-catching results.
METY is available in sizes 7/2 (corresponding to 40 wt. POLY) and 5/2 (corresponding
to 30 wt. POLY). We stock a wide range of solid colors, multicolors, silvers and golds in
1,100 yd. Mini-King cones, as well as 5,500 yd. Regular cones in silver and gold.

MONO Monofilament Thread
This is a very thin, tear resistant, monofilament, 80 wt. thread made of 100% polyester. Its
unique characteristics make it perfect for unusual designs where a “clear” effect is needed.
MONO has a practical side too; use it for invisible seams and when embellishing fabrics with
sequins, cords or pearls.

Gunold Magnetic Bobbins
These bobbins are pre-wound bobbins with a plastic core with a steel washer visible. Included in the
box are eight reuseable magnetic rings (to be inserted into the bobbin case) which will attach the
steel washer on the bobbin. This will enable you to have a high-yield bobbin without tension variations.
Sided bobbins are wound with 124 yds. of continuous-filament, 100% High-Tenacity Polyester.
Sideless bobbins are wound with 135 yds. of continuous-filament, 100% High Tenacity Polyester.

NEB Alternative Bobbins
If your embroidery calls for a 100% cotton bobbin thread, Bobby Cot is the choice of pros. Bobby Cot is
intended for delicate script, “dainty” embroidery and for use on fabrics and garments which will be dyed.

This self-adhesive, non-woven backing can be used in hoops, continuous border frames or
for embroidering hats on standard machines. You do not need to use clamping devices or
spray adhesives with Filmoplast®. Just peel off the protective paper and manually press the

SOLVY ® is a Gunold trademarked product. This consistent, water-soluble quality film is used
for detalied embroidery on high-pile fabrics like terry cloth bathrobes, towels and knitwear.
Solvy® is also popular as a dissolvable, water-soluble backing.
A 100% polyester, cut-away backing made in the USA. It has a grid core to give it
strength and a soft non-woven fabric surface to help reduce skin irritation. It is thicker
and stronger than other backings making one piece suitable for designs with high stitch
counts on unstable fabrics.

HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT GUNOLD SOLVY
®
SOLVY is an amazing, water soluble plastic film. It is used to prevent the stitches from
getting lost in the nap of knitwear garments. It also prevents the loops from jumping up on
terrycloth during the embroidery process. SOLVY® allows much more detail to be seen on any
intricate design. It is not to be used on velvet, corduroy or silk.

Using SOLVY® is easy. Just follow these steps:
a. Place SOLVY® on top of fabric or hoop it in with the fabric,
b. After the embroidery process is complete, tear-away the larger areas of SOLVY® inside
and outside of the design,
c. Dissolve SOLVY® on very small areas by lightly misting with water. The residue will
disappear and be removed from the fabric at first washing. (Note that embroidery
should not be left damp or wet longer than a few minutes.)
d. On larger areas, mist lightly to dissolve SOLVY®. After a few seconds the dissolved
SOLVY® residue may be removed with a damp sponge or cloth.
NOTE: SOLVY® should be kept in a closed plastic bag.

Our 80mil SOLVY is extremely stable and has a non-embossed texture. As a bonus, it
sticks to fabrics when moistened. It is four times as firm, thick, heavy, and strong as our
original SOLVY. It is often used to support freestanding embroidery designs.

Ultra SOLVY

This is a polyester, circular knit mesh with a polyamide adhesive coating. Its main use is to
cover the back of your embroidery design preventing snags and protecting sensitive skin.
HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT COVER THE BACKTM
Cover the BackTM prevents a coarse embroidery design from touching sensetive skin.
Great for baby apparel, polo shirts, lingerie, sports apparel, or any embroidery that may
be irritating to the skin.
SIZE
For best results, cut Cover the BackTM one half inch larger than your design. Place coarse
fusible side down, over the back of the design. Using a heat press at 250°- 270° degrees
with pressure set at 3-4 bars, press for 10 to 14 seconds. A household iron may be used,
using the highest heat setting the garment will allow. Keep Cover the BackTM in sealed bag
or container.

Fabri-SOLVY is a 1.25 oz., opaque, fabric-like, water soluble stabilizer which has a soft,
silky feel. It behaves like fabric during embroidery, allowing ease of stitching and is easily
removed like a water soluble stabilizer. It can be used as a topper or backing. Fabri-SOLVY
rinses away cleanly, leaving your design soft and comfortable against the skin. Perfect for
those with sensitive skin and babies.

Heat AwayTM is a special heat-sensitive, woven cotton fabric often referred to as “burnaway” or “aetz-cloth.” It is used in the following situations:

a. On top of fabrics that cannot get wet, like corduroy or velvet, to keep stitches from
sinking in and getting lost.

b. To create “free-standing” embroidery. Just hoop Heat AwayTM and embroider directly onto it.
After removing the Heat AwayTM, only the embroidered pattern remains.

After the embroidery process is complete, adjust your flat-iron or your thermo-press to
the temperature for lining (248°F - 356°F). Press the garment for 15 seconds. During this
process, the Heat AwayTM disintegrates. The remaining fibers, in the embroidered pattern,
must be brushed out. A soft-bristle brush works best.
Heat AwayTM must be protected against moisture, heat and sun. It should be stored
in a closed plastic bag. Embroidered patterns from which Heat Away is not removed
immediately should also be stored in a closed plastic bag. Heat Away does not become
useless if stored incorrectly, but it will be more difficult to remove.

Cut it out. Iron it on. That’s all there is to it. Using Thermofix, it is quick and easy to affix embroidery
designs onto jackets, shirts and fabrics. Your design will adhere permanently–even after frequent
washings! Thermofix is just like a nonwoven that consists of adhesive fibers. It is ironed onto the
finished embroidery design after the embroidery process. Then the emblem is placed onto the
desired spot of your fabric and has to be permanently fixed either with a household iron or a heat
press. But there is even more to Thermofix than making fast and easy appliqués: It is the perfect
solution for very small and tricky areas where fixation by machine is simply impossible. Also great for

Gudy Stick
A double-sided adhesive film bonds to your fabric without the need for heat-setting. Just
peel, sitck to your appliqué, place on your fabric, and satin stitch around the edges to

Appliqué work is child’s play when using Gudy Stick: this special film, adhesive on both
sides, allows positioning of appliqué to base fabric without ironing. It lets you produce neat

SPECIALTY BACKINGS
STEP 1: Tack Heat N’ Seal to the back of the embroidery. It is important that neither the
temperature nor the pressure be too high in this first step.

These needles are highly-polished, surgical steel in ballpoint and sharp styles. All Organ
needles have extra large eyes for easier threading and larger shafts for decreased
deflection. Ballpoint needles are available in six polular sizes and sharp needles are
available in three sizes.
a. TYPE H: Put the iron setting on wool or about 275°F. Keep the iron moving for 10-15
seconds. If using fusing press with Type H you only need 4-6 seconds at three pounds
per square inch (psi).
b. TYPE J(I): Set the fusing press to 320°F at 3-4psi for 4-5 seconds.
You are now ready to trim the embroidery and remove the silicone paper.
STEP 2: Fuse embroidery to the garment.
a. TYPE H: When possible, the heat of the iron should come through the garment during
Step 2. This means that the embroidery should be face down with the garment over
it when the heat of the iron is being applied. This will draw the adhesive from the
embroidery to the garment. The temperature setting for the iron should be on high or
linen during this application. We suggest you press vigorously for 20-30 seconds.
b. TYPE J(I): The fusing press temperature needs to be set higher; about 330°F. The
pressure should be set between 5-20 psi for about 10-15 seconds.
Please allow Heat N’ Seal to dry at least 48 hours for the most effective use. All of the
above are averages to serve as guidelines. Adjustments may need to be made to reflect
thickness and heat flow through the fabrics used. Thicker fabrics require higher pressure.
Time and pressures can be varied. Higher temperatures allow shorter fusing time.
