Scientific Programme of the 21st International Conference on Gas Discharges and their Applications 11th - 16th September 2016 Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan Orgnized by The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan Fundamentals and Materials Society, Power and Energy Society Cosponsored by Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya University Aichi Institute of Technology TC on Switching and Protecting Engineering, IEEJ Supported by Technical Committee on Switching and Protecting Engineering, IEEJ The Japan Society of Applied Physics The Institute of Electrical Installation Engineers of Japan The Japan Society of Plasma Science and Nuclear Fusion Research The Institute of Engineers on Electrical Discharges in Japan The Institute of Electrostatics Japan Access to Nagoya University To Higashiyama Campus From Nagoya Station: Take the Subway Higahsiyama Line to Motoyama Sta.(15 minutes), then transfer to the Subway Meijo Line to Nagoya Daigaku Sta.(Higashiyama Campus is just off the subway exit). From Centrair (Central Japan International Airport): Take the Meitetsu Line to Kanayama Sta.(30 min.) then transfer to the Subway Meijo Line to Nagoya Daigaku Sta.(21 min). GD2016 - Conference information Venue GD2016 is held at IB Building, Higashiyma Campus, Nagoya University that is just off the exit of the subway “Nagoya Daigaku Station”. Please go out “Exit 3” at the station to arrive the GD2016 conference venue. Presentation All GD2016 papers must be presented orally and in English. • Invited lectures will be given 45 minutes, including related discussion. • Other presentations (presentations of contributed papers) must be made in 13 minutes: 10 minutes for the presentation and 3 minutes for related discussions. The presentations are scheduled in two parallel sessions at IB Large Lecture Hall and IB015 Lecture Room, which are in IB building. Standard audio-visual equipment will be available, including LCD projector, screen, pointer and microphone. The presentation file must be given on a portable USB stick in Microsoft Power Point format or PDF format to the conference secretary (registration desk) at least half day before the presentation. The use of the laptop provided in the conference room is recommended. Speakers can connect their own laptop to the projector. In that case, a VGA cable with male connector will be provided for hooking up your laptop and a test during the break time is strongly recommended. Most computers require an adapter that varies by brand (Mac/PC) and even by model. Please ensure to bring the proper adapter that will fit your computer (no adapters will be available on site). If you have a video or audio file embedded in your presentation we recommend using a standard video and audio code compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint. All speakers must introduce themselves to the chair person for the next session, and check the presentation file and/or the connection of laptop if using your own laptop, at least 5 minutes before the start of the corresponding session. Wireless LAN service Nagoya University provides free Wi-Fi service. If you would like to use the service, please contact the reception to get the ID for wireless LAN. The EDUROAM (International Educational Roaming Infrastructure) service is also available in Nagoya University. If you are registered in your home country to have the login ID for the EDUROAM, you are able to access the internet as usual. Lunch Lunch box is provided near the registration desk on Sep. 12th, 13th, and 15th free of charge. The break rooms in IB central building are available for having lunch. Also, you can enjoy the lunch at some restaurants, cafes around the conference venue (IB central building). Please see the campus map of Nagoya University. On Wednesday 14th, light meal is included in the social event; sandwich is provided in tour buses. 1 GD2016 - Conference Time Table (11-16 September 2016, Nagoya Japan ) Monday 12 Sep 2016 Sunday 11 Sep 2016 8:00 - 9:00 9:00 - 9:30 9:30 - 10:15 Tuesday 13 Sep 2016 Registration Presentation Space (IB Build.) 8:30 - 9:00 Opening Ceremony IB Large Lecture Hall Invited Lecture 1 T. The golden dolphins – Kinshachi - ornamenting the roof are famous and popular as the city's symbol. 14:45 - 15:05 Nagoya Nogakudo aims to promote the traditional Japanese art of Noh Theater. This elegant Japanese style building contains a small museum with a permanent exhibition on Noh. Performances held at the Nagoya Noh Theatre are mostly of traditional Noh and Kyogen, but the theatre can also be rented out for other purposes such as international conferences and weddings. In the entrance hall, mechanical dolls are displayed which perform several times a day. You can also try on a Noh mask on the way to the exhibit room. 15:20 - 17:00 Noritake Garden is a facility complex with Noritake museum, ceramic factory and shop of Noritake products. The museum was established to enable broader access for the public to the historically important red-brick building and help promote healthy development of society, while preserving the site as an historical asset for the group. 15:30 - 17:00 SCMAGLEV and Railway Park introduces the advances in high speed railway through rolling stock displays, which include the Superconducting Magnetically Levitated Vehicle (Maglev), as well as historic railway rolling stock. 17:45 - 18:40 Drop off at Sakae station (17:45), Nagoya station (18:05), Nagoya University (18:40) Course C : Atsuta Shrine, Ohsu Kannon Temple, Ohsu Shopping District - 12:00 Gather in front of IB011 break room , leave the conference venue by chartered bus 12:00 - 13:40 Lunch in the bus with scenery seen from a window 13:40 - 14:40 Atsuta Shrine was originally founded about 1900 years ago, and one of the greatest centers of worship in Japan from ancient times. The sacred sword Kusanagi-no-tsurugi, one of the three sacred treasures that symbolize the Imperial throne, was enshrined. The shrine buildings were maintained by the effort of devout generals of successive times. During the World War 2, however, more of its buildings were destroyed by fire. After the war the reconstruction was begun by the combined effort of all devout worshippers of the shrine all over the country. 15:00 - 16:45 Ohsu Kannon and Ohsu Shopping District The temple was originally built in about the year 1333, in currently known as the city of Hashima in Gifu Prefecture. Due to repeated flooding, the temple was moved to its present location in 1612 by Ieyasu Tokugawa. Many people visit there for several local festivals in a year. The area now boasts more than 1,200 shops from very long established to brand-new and is a popular sightseeing destination. 17:10 - 18:05 Drop off at Sakae station (17:10), Nagoya station (17:30), Nagoya University (18:05) 12 GD2016 - Social event on 14th Wednesday Meeting place - 1st floor of IB building for all courses. - Departure time is 12:00. - Please arrive at the each meeting place before the departure time.
