This is Issue # 2 of Volume 1 of the monthly
newsletter. We are still hopping for volunteers to help
edit and produce it. I spend three days a week at the
range so I get to meet and talk to a lot of talented
members, maybe some of you could spare a little time
each month or every other month for the newsletter?
Or maybe someone would like to write a letter to the
club? Only nice, nice, kiss, kiss letters, the newsletter
is not a complaint department, those letters go directly
to the Board.
I have received numerous complaints/questions from
members concerning the receipt/sending of e-mails to
or from the Board of Directors, if you could please
contact me Ray Radank, my contact info is in the
(range volunteer box) I will try to get the problem
“fixed” I feel your pain because I too get my e-mail
bounced back to me when I send to
[email protected]. Some of you have
stated that you get help from other members that
forward OSA e-mails to you because you don’t receive
them. The Board of Directors can be reached at
[email protected] If you can’t reach
the BOD’s at this e-mail, please forward it to Ray
Radank [email protected] and it will be sent to the
rest of the board.

The Title for this piece of the newsletter comes to us
from Ted Fries. Thanks Ted.
The number one safety or rule violation we see at OSA
is target placement height, mostly target position is set
too low and the shooter ends up making ground hits and
not the berm. Please people, it is critical that your target
placement is such that your shots hit the berm from the
center of the berm to just above ground level. If you set
up your targets at the seven or ten yard line on the
grass as a rule of thumb set the bottom edge of the
target backer at the bottom of chin height (recent
members remember this from orientation) then center
your target on the backer and then back at the safety
2
line recheck your target height by pointing your finger at the bulls eye as if holding your
gun at the target and then move it slightly left or right of the target to see where your
shots will hit the berm. Target placement at the 15 and 25 yard line require target
placement of bulls eye at level with your eye because it is the same level as the firing
line. If you change or setup your target for a sitting or bench rest position than you must
lower your target accordingly to match your sitting height or your shots will be too high or
possibly even go over the top of the berm. Remember everyone, as members of OSA
you have every right to approach any member that you see is unsafe in any way or
target placement off to say something to that member in a very nice way or if you have a
range safety officer present tell them what you see and they will handle the situation.
Thank you all in advance and LETS ALL HAVE FUN!!!!
ATTENTION MEMBERS
We had a fantastic member turn out for the general meeting today Sunday 9/8/2013
For those of you that could not make it, I know many of you were/are out of town and even out
of state enjoying other activities. OSA was just able to make a quorum so we were able to vote
for the first time in almost a year! So a very BIG thank you to all that had the time to attend. We
talked at length about the status of the rifle range, also many questions on the club finances
were asked as well as our status with the IRS. The membership took a vote for a OSA swap
meet for the morning of the December meeting or a day close to it, sadly it was voted down,
sorry to Alan Densky and (I helped a little) for all the effort he put into it only to have it voted
down but we will try again for some time next year and we will better prepare for it next time.
We also voted to have another OSA picnic at the election meeting in December which was
voted a resounding YES! I guess everybody liked it last year! So that means VOLUNTEERS
PEOPLE!! To help pull it off smoothly, we already have twelve volunteers from the meeting but
more people means less work and more fun for everybody, so help out if you can, and make
sure you bring an appetite! Volunteers can contact coordinator ED Rood at
[email protected] or any board member.
LADIES DAY
Ladies get your guns.
Ladies Fun Day at OSA is starting up again.
There is a lot of excitement and plans for another season of learning while having a good time.
Some of the topics highlighted each Wednesday include: Basic gun safety, fundamentals of
shooting, choosing a gun right for you, ladies holster choices, opportunities to shoot different
guns and much more.
Looking forward to seeing all the attendees from last season and new faces.
Whatever skill level, beginner to expert, can come for fun and skill building. Ever wished you
could ask any question, share an idea, get hints from someone who understands ladies' issues
with shooting? THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY to have FUN and share while improving your
shooting skills in a comfortable non-pressured atmosphere.
Starting Wednesday, October 2, 2013. 1:30 - 3:30 pm. Associate members may attend
without their primary member and will be under the supervision of the activity organizer. Guests
may also attend by paying the $10.00 range fee. The gate will be attended from 1:20 to 1:40
pm for attendees that do not have a key card.
Joyce Schulke, 352-789-0201, will be the organizer. Call for further information.

OSA Steel Shoot Report
(8-24-2013)
The OSA steel shoot had a good turnout with 25 participants. Considering the
oppressive heat and high humidity with Julie Johnson so aptly stating; you have to
chew the air before you can breathe it.
Stock Auto, centerfire handgun with iron sites saw Eric F take top score; our own
Rabbit took third place. Open 22, 22 handguns with red dot site or scope, saw our
buddy Brian F take top score with Jerry S hot on his heels and Alan D taking third.
Yours truly had to bow out due to gun malfunctions, seams I forgot to lube the slide
when I cleaned my gun Friday before the match. 22 Rifle saw Brian F again take top
score and top score overall with Jerry S breathing down his neck and Match Director
Dale G rounding out the top three. Irv W had an excellent day coming in 6th. Fred J
was trying out different guns, on his birthday no less, so he came in holding the tail
end. Stock 22, handgun with iron sites saw Fred J rebound from the rifle to take the top
spot, (HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRED!) Our Buddy Gil C behind in second with Fred’s wife
JJ taking third. Congrats to all that came out to be mosquito bait and play in the heat.
A Hero In Our Midst!
One of our longtime members, retired military and LOE with several commendations
was at the Walmart on Easy Street in Ocala recently. He noticed an individual holding
a large knife to the throat of a woman. Our hero turned around when he saw this. He
pulled 38 Special Detective Revolver (legally concealed) and pointed it up close to the
assailant’s face and told him to let the woman go or he would “__ __ __ __”. The
woman took of running as fast as she could. Our hero had the bad guy lay down on
the pavement until law enforcement arrived to arrest him.
Our hero has asked that he remain anonymous, but if you know who the hero is make
sure you thank him and give him a pat on the back for his bravery the next time you
see him.
Useful Information
Shooters, need magazines for your semi-auto? Two places you can try are;
Gregcotellc.com stocks a large assortment of magazines and some accessories.
44mag.com sells magazines at wholesale pricing but does not have a large inventory,
44mag may or may not have what you need but what he does have is priced right!

MONTHLY SHOOTING ACTIVITIES
2nd Saturday of the month is the bowling pin shoot. An e-mail was sent out by
the treasurer, Rick Stinnett informing every one of the start time for this event which is;
Set up is at 2:00 PM followed by sign up and safety briefing and first shot at 3:00 PM.
This is lots of fun! If you can hit a target at 15 yards, then you can hit a bowling pin. All
handgun calibers are welcome in handgun and/or rifle. 4 stages total. a perfect score
uses a total of 26 rounds so even if your conserving ammo, you can still shoot this
competition.
The 2nd Sunday of the month is new member orientation. If you know someone
that is interested in becoming a member this is the date to do it. New member
prospects need to show up at the range at 9:45 AM. Class starts at 10:00 AM, break for
lunch around noon and 1:00 PM is firearm safety check out. Depending on new
member turn out this lasts from one to two hours.
The 3rd Sunday of the month is IDPA competition, set up is between 11:00 AM &
noon followed by sign up and safety briefing with first shot at 1:00 PM. The stages for
this event are always different so how you shoot it is always different and involves
wearing a conceal garment, drawing from the holster and changing magazines or
reloading revolvers during the course of fire.
The 4th Saturday is OSA Steel Shooters; set up is at 8:00 AM followed by sign up
& safety briefing, first shot at 9:00 AM. Four stages of five steel plates are used in
different configurations. You will need 5 handgun magazines per stage loaded to ten
rounds, if you don’t have five magazines that’s okay, somebody on your squad will help
reload for you. High capacity 22 rifle magazines can be loaded to 10-20-30 rounds thus
requiring less magazines.
The 5th Saturday of the month is the Ruger Rimfire Challenge, (Ruger firearms
are not required), the 5th Saturday of the month only occurs 4 or 5 times a year so you
will have to watch the calendar.. Both 22 rimfire handgun and rifle are required to
participate in this event. You may use up to 200 hundred rounds in this event. Set up is
8:30 AM followed by sign up and safety briefing, 1st shot at 9:00 AM. Questions on any
of the shoots? Call or see Ray at the range on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
