During the event, over 130 youth from 14 local TOP® Clubs made a positive impact on the community by participating in one of three activities: • Removing trash from Forest Park neighborhoods; • Creating “Thank You” treats for special people/groups; and • Creating “Care Kits” for groups/organizations in need. Those benefitting from the work of CSL Day were invited to receive their gifts/donations directly from the teens who created them. Those benefiting from the efforts of the TOP® Club participants include: bus drivers and monitors, custodians, cafeteria workers, bookkeepers, and guidance counselors from Clayton County Public Schools; law enforcement officials; Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services; Calvary Refuge Center; and Sconiers Homeless Preventive Organization, Inc. “Our youth coordinated and prepared for their CSL Day activities for several weeks,” said CCST Program Manager Rolanda Patrick. “We are extremely proud of their hard work and creativity and believe that these activities helped them recognize the importance of serving others.” TOP® is an evidence-based program that promotes positive youth development and healthy life choices by engaging teens in curriculum-guided discussions and service learning throughout the school year. The program is designed to help teens acquire the skills needed for positive outcomes and successful transitions into adulthood. Funded by a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health, TOP® is implemented through the Clayton County Board of Health’s (CCBOH) Clayton Can Soar to the Top (CCST) initiative.
