Congrats Grads!
My favourite memory in all my
years at John Adam was...
In grade four I was doing a show-and-tell and
I was talking about my cats and I brought
one of my cats to school.
- Léonie
This year’s grads stand proudly in front of their school.
This special issue of Just JAM! is dedicated to
this year's graduates. This issue was assembled
with the help of the Grade 5 students, thanks
to their Grade 6 mentors. Some graduates
have attended John Adam since kindergarten,
while others joined us much later. Some
participated in sporting events and others
cheered them on. In this issue, each graduate
has included a fond memory of their time
spent at John Adam.
The first day of kindergarten. On that day
when I looked around the classroom, I knew
I was at home.
- Merlyn
When we went to camp last year and we
played a game where you had to hide in the
dark, in the woods.
- Arianne
When I made the teams and won in
basketball, volleyball, and more.
- James
In kindergarten, when I let a monarch
butterfly go into the wild.

What a Colourful Project!
The design was then drawn on four pieces of
plywood. The students then had to paint the
design onto the plywood. Everyone was able
to paint part of the design.
Two girls enjoy painting the sun’s rays.
Once that was complete, they attached
colourful caps to it with either screws or
staples. Screwing the caps on was fun, but the
staple gun was the most popular choice. All of
the students had a chance to use the staple
gun and were very excited to use it!
The finished mural adds beauty and colour to the hallway.
The tradition continues! Every year, the Grade
6 students work together on a project with
Mrs. Kim to leave their mark at John Adam.
This year was no exception. The idea to do a
design with recycled caps worked well with our
school theme of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Beginning in
January, the entire school
community of John Adam was asked to
contribute to our collection of plastic bottle
caps. They were then all sorted by colour and
washed. Once all of the caps were collected,
two designs were presented to the students
for them to vote on. These designs were based
on the colours in our collection of caps.
Painting was a lot of fun!
Safety came first when using the staple
gun!
A big thank you is extended to the John Adam
community who contributed to the collection
of over 2,300 various coloured caps. Without
the support from students and their families,
this project would not have been successful.
The students are very proud of the finished
project and are happy to have left their mark
at John Adam.

Thank You Grade 6!
Tommy and Valentina
A big thank you to the Grade 6 students for
being our mentors all year and for helping us.
They helped with the carnival and the
students enjoyed that the Grade 6’s were
there to animate the carnival. The Grade 5
students are excited to be like them next
year! They also liked when they taught the
Grade 5 students little tools in the publisher
program that we use in Just JAM!.
Some of the Grade 5 students thought that it
was fun being with Grade 6 students because
you get to make new friends and you get to fit
in with the older kids. All of the Grade 5’s will
miss you and good luck in high school! THANK
YOU GRADE 6 STUDENTS!
