Principal`s Message - Catalina Foothills School District
ISSUE #14 APRIL 4, 2008 Principal’s Message NEWSLETTER OF VENTANA VISTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL The Results Are In! Thanks to so many of you for turning in the Family Survey. We had a record 55% return rate! Survey results will appear in a future edition of Ventana Vistas. Dress Code Reminder You received a copy of the Student Dress Code in the Parent-student Handbook at the beginning of the school year. As the weather is heating up, please keep in mind the following guidelines: • Shirts must cover the torso and have straps that are at least two-fingers in width. • Shoes should be safe for work and play. Sandals should have a back and/or a strap across the foot. “Flip-flops” are not safe footwear, and therefore are not permitted. • Shorts or skirts should not be excessively tight or short. A rule of thumb is that they should be longer than one’s fingertips when arms are at the side. School Attendance We seem to be having more and more students leaving school for extended periods of time for trips or vacations. Please keep in mind that regular school attendance is a very strong, contributing factor to student achievement. When children are present, they obtain significant concepts and information that they are unlikely to acquire when absent, even with “make-up” work. Students have the opportunity to participate in discussions, to process the current instructional concepts, link them to past learning, and then predict what may happen next. What can you do to teach your child the importance of school attendance? • Discuss with your child the importance of attending school, and the role that education plays in success. Provide specific examples. • Ensure that your child is in school; avoid excuses for “missing” or arriving after the instructional day begins. • Avoid scheduling trips and appointments during school time, unless absolutely necessary. Of course, if your child is ill, please keep him/her home. A child who has had a temperature of over 100 degrees should be fever free for 24 hours without medication before coming back to school. Thank you for contributing to your child’s success by establishing the fact that attendance is critical.
