TWO TEN HISTORY 37
A Letter from the President
I am honored to share the Two Ten Footwear Foundation’s 2014 Annual Report.
It was a remarkable year. We celebrated 75 years of a wonderful tradition of
‘shoepeople helping shoepeople.’ Over 1,600 members of our footwear industry
joined us in NYC for a spirited and colorful Gala, led by Gala Chairman
Ken Hicks of Foot Locker. We celebrated the triumphs of Tim O’Donovan,
our second Bob Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and raised
a record-breaking $2.7M for our emergency social services and
scholarship programs.
Our revenue continued to grow steadily to meet the needs of footwear families
who faced a crisis. We responded to thousands of emergency phone calls within
48 hours this year. We delivered $1.5M of emergency financial assistance to
footwear employees from over 200 companies across the U.S. We provided
350 scholarships to young people from footwear families, designers and for
veterans returning to a footwear job after military service. And we brought
together 10,000 shoepeople during Footwear Cares and our 150 events
from coast-to-coast.
From the footwear industry – for a footwear community.
The Two Ten Footwear Foundation is the footwear industry’s charitable foundation.
In close partnership with our donors and other partners, we are concentrated on
achieving high-impact philanthropic goals that help bring shoepeople together
and change lives. Look no further than our 4-Star Charity Navigator rating to see

Our world is changing fast. I worry that changes
at work, at home, in our communities, and in the
digital world are all radically altering our fragile
social fabric. 75 years ago, those caring natural

About Two Ten
Footwear Foundation
As the only philanthropy in the U.S. that focuses solely on its own industry
and workforce, the Two Ten Footwear Foundation brings shoepeople
together to help each other during crisis, support each other as a
community, and ensure a bright future for our industry’s workforce.
From its humble, ‘pass the hat‘ beginnings in depression-era 1939,
to serving over 250,000 footwear employees and their families today,
Two Ten’s commitment to providing emergency financial assistance,
scholarships, counseling services, and community building programs
continues its 75-year legacy of changing lives.

CLIENT PERSPECTIVE
Kelly’s Story
“ My husband smelled the smoke first and moments
later, our floors and walls were engulfed in flames
in what’s called a flash fire.
In just four minutes, our home was gone.
But we’re lucky. We got out alive and we are fortunate
to have the support of our friends who have opened
their homes to us during this transition.
Situations like these either define you or
destroy you. Thankfully, Two Ten was there
and helped us back on our feet.”

Frannie’s Story
Frannie and her family were literally five days
away from eviction. She was expecting a baby
and her husband, in desperate need of back
surgery, could no longer work. She didn’t know
how they were going to make ends meet.
Thankfully, a co-worker shared a story with
Frannie about how Two Ten had helped her out
a couple of years back. While a bit skeptical,
Frannie applied for help through the online
portal at www.twoten.org and less than
24 hours later, she received a call from John,
one of Two Ten’s case managers. “John was
my hero; he was able to pay our back rent and
overdue utility bills, which truly helped us get
back on our feet.”
Months later, Frannie’s husband has a new job,
they have a new baby and their future is bright.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be finally caught up
on our bills,” Frannie said. “This was truly a
blessing and I will be thankful for this
organization for the rest of my life.”

Social Services
We are grateful fiscal year 2014 (July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014) was a year without any large-scale
natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy, which occurred in fiscal year 2013. There was 5% growth
in intake calls over 2012 and the number of people who got financial assistance increased by 7%.
We saw a $129,947 increase, or 9.5% in the amount of relief dollars spent in comparison to 2012.
Financial assistance went to employees from 203 different footwear companies across the U.S.
The average award given per person in need was $1,270. Two Ten Social Services staff also
helped 89 footwear workers through our counseling services and 460 individuals were given referrals
to local community resources.

when you get knocked down, it’s nice to know that [Two Ten] is there to support you.”

SCHOLAR PERSPECTIVE
Corey’s Story
“If you have a certain goal or a
passion and you express that
to Two Ten, I believe that they
will do whatever they can to
help you with that.
I was a sophomore in high school when my father, a 30-year
footwear industry veteran, lost his job. His health was poor and
unfortunately, he passed away not long after. It was really tough
on us – my mom and me – and we had to make some big changes
including a move from our home.
When it came time to think about college, I knew I had to get as
many scholarships as possible. When I received the scholarship
award letter from Two Ten, I was so excited but my mom was
ecstatic. Knowing that Two Ten understood our situation and
wanted to help out was incredible.”

Community
Groups
One of three key priorities for Two Ten is
uniting and strengthening the footwear community.
The Foundation continues to build on our industry’s
powerful legacy of community service and
professional collaboration through a range of
dynamic affinity groups and national programs.
In 2014, Two Ten brought over 10,000 members
of the footwear industry together through:
>> Women In Footwear Industry (WIFI)
>> Young Professionals (YP for 210)
>> Human Resources Leadership
Committee (HRLC)
>> Footwear Cares®
15
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS (YP FOR 210)
YP of 210 brings together emerging footwear talent and their organizations
in professional networking and career development initiatives and to support
Two Ten. During 2014, YP for 210 conducted a series of monthly community
service projects in the Boston area; held information and social meet-ups for
footwear professionals and to further grow awareness of the Foundation;
and hosted an industry party in New York, sponsored by Lacoste.

TWO TEN HISTORY
It’s always been about helping shoepeople.
Deeply rooted in community, Two Ten
Footwear Foundation began as an informal
system of support between “shoe workers”
during the Great Depression. Many had
fallen on hard times due to loss of their jobs
and were supported by their colleagues
who literally passed a hat amongst
themselves to collect money for those who
were out of work. This highly personal
outreach represented a unique unity within
a trade that believed helping each other
was as much about individual survival as it
was health of an entire industry.
Realizing that passing a hat was not
a sustainable way to provide financial
assistance to their community, the group
created a more organized effort that would
lay the groundwork for its future. A modest
cash donation and some office space
at 210 Lincoln Street in footwear-centric
Boston, Massachusetts launched what
became known as the Two Ten Associates.
As requests for financial assistance
post-World War II increased from across
the U.S., the Associates adjusted their
organization from a volunteer-only basis
and expanded their presence to include
activities in major cities from Los Angeles
to New York.
75 years after its humble beginnings,
Two Ten Footwear Foundation now serves
an industry of over 250,000 footwear
employees and their families through
programs and services that directly impact
their lives. Funded entirely through the
generosity of the footwear community and
Foundation partners, Two Ten’s services
include emergency financial assistance,
scholarships and professional development,
crisis counselling, career services, national
networking events and much more.
As the only philanthropy in the U.S. that
focuses solely on supporting its own
industry, Two Ten’s legacy mission is clear:
to bring shoepeople together to help each
other during crisis, support each other as a
community, and ensure a bright future for
our industry’s workforce.
Two Ten changes the lives of people in the footwear community. Be a part of this change.

“I believe in the approach of making
every interaction as personal as
possible. It’s about the emotional
engagement of letting people know how
much you care. At Two Ten, it is truly
personal on the most fundamental level;
we’re directly impacting people’s lives in
a positive way every day.”
