Arabian Peninsula. Only two of his
works have survived. His Mu’jam
ma Ista’jam contains a list of
places mostly within the Arabian
peninsular with an introduction
giving
the
geographical
background. His improtant work
is his book Kitab Al Masalik wa Al
Mamalik “Book of Highways and of
Kingdoms”

An Enduring Relationship...

Azure blue skies fading into the
light ochre of an empty horizon
greeted me as I drove out beyond
the airport, turning right onto a
dirt track causeway. Bright yellow
construction equipment, gigantic
pipes, porta-cabins and piles of
equipment greeted me. I stopped
to ask for directions. “Go straight,
follow markers but careful… soft
sand”.
The ultimate all-terrain vehicle,
my rented Toyota Corolla can
go anywhere. I drove on, over
a landscape of sand past an
incongruous, solitary villa neatly
contained within its garden walls,
searching for my first glimpse of
Tala Island.
My company, Vision Gulf, had been
commissioned to develop a brand
for Tala and to produce the first
marketing material for Bahrain’s
newest lifestyle development.
The land reclamation had proved
an incredible feat of engineering:
Gigantic mesh sacks were pumped
with water and thousands of tons
of sand and left in place to solidify,
their sinuous curves defining the
outer shape of the islands. Millions
of tons of infill then created the

Bahrain. Villas,
apartments
and hotels mix
with lagoons,
beaches and
open space. Lifestyle abounds
here both on and off water. Boats,
kayaks and windsurfers dot the
seascape, people jog, cycle or walk
along well-designed footpaths.
I enjoy an enduring relationship
with Amwaj; visiting friends,
swimming in the lagoons, dining
out and boating from the Marina. To
my envy, some of my team choose
to live here. We have long-term
clients whose businesses are here
too such as Alosra Supermarket,
Smart Boating Centre and we are
delighted to continue to work with
the Amwaj Developers, Ossis.
Vision Gulf is a branding and
communication agency that has,
over the years, worked with many
of Bahrain’s leading corporates.
For example, we designed the
BBK brand and developed their
Financial Malls. We launched
Ithmaar Bank; branded the Royal
Golf Club; supported dozens of
investment banks, real estate
developers, retail and leisure
operators with our work. We write,
design and produce annual reports,
investment fund documentation,
corporate profiles and a full range
of marketing material - both print
and digital.
Vision Gulf recently designed
and created a range of marketing
material for Amwaj. Adverts, flyers,
brochures, CD covers and more.
We also developed their website
– a complex online resource that
features the latest islands’ news,
residents’ forum and amenities
guides – and we support the
Amwaj team in various ongoing
communications.
The empty landscape that greeted
me on my first visit here seems long
ago now, though its memory runs
fresh in my mind each time I drive
through the entrance to this very
special community. The Amwaj of
today is testament to the vision of
its developers and a bright jewel in
the infrastructure of the Kingdom
of Bahrain and I am very proud to
have played a part in its history.
