Welcome Message - Association President
Welcome 2011 Tournament Participants!
On behalf of the Hamilton Ringette Association, I would like to welcome you to
the 2011 Southern Region Ringette Championships, Bunnyfest and Adult
Challenge Cup hosted by the Hamilton Ringette Association.
I would like to thank the HRA executive and the tournament committee, for all
their hard work in putting together what should be a great three days of ringette
for you to enjoy. I want to thank our officials and game-day volunteers for the
many hours that they will spend at the rink this weekend. We also acknowledge
the generous support of our many tournament sponsors who help to make this
tournament a success.
When your team is not on the ice, please visit our tournament headquarters at the
Chedoke Arena and check out our tournament vendors. If you want the latest
scores from the tournament, please visit our web site at www.hamiltonrinette.ca.
I also hope that your team takes time to enjoy the City of Hamilton during your
stay this weekend. Our city has a lot to offer with many events, shopping and
restaurants for your team to take advantage of while you’re not on the ice.
I would also like to thank the staff of the Chedoke Arena along with the arena
staff at our satellite arenas in helping us to ensure that the tournament runs
smoothly from a facilities perspective.
In closing, I hope your team and your families have a great tournament and a fun
and safe weekend!

Tournament Rules (SRRA Championship & Challenge Cup)
It is the responsibility of the head Coach to read the ORA Games & Tournaments section
of the Operating Manual as well as the following rules. Ignorance is not an acceptable
excuse. Make sure all bench staff read this carefully.
Signing In
Each member of the bench staff must sign in before the game in the appropriate position. They
must be qualified and be a current registered bench staff with ORA. Check the team roster
carefully ensuring that all information is completed correctly. Home team decides what shirt
colour they will be wearing; visitors must be of a contrasting colour. It is the responsibility of all
teams to have a second set of shirts with them at this event. All bench staff must sign the game
sheet before participating. (HC/AC/M/T). Signing a game sheet verifies that you have checked
the sheet and agree with what has been entered on it as well as noting who is on the bench and
in what position. This requirement must not be taken lightly. At no time is one person to print
in the names of all of the staff.
Game Play
All games are two 15 minute periods. Total points at the end of the round robin series will
declare the standings in order to determine who continues on. The largest goal spread shown on
the clock will be 7 goals. Remember that 7 goals is the maximum that can be used for tiebreaking purposes and will be the spread recorded on results boards. Shot clocks will be used in
all games for U14 (Tween) & above.
All games are stop time. However, if there is a seven or greater goal spread between the teams
at the start of the second period, or any time during the second period, running time will be
declared. Running time will be maintained as long as there exists a seven or greater goal spread
between the teams. The tournament chair reserves the right to declare running time where it is
felt to be in the best interests of the participants to do so, or is requested by both coaches.
The decision to declare running time will be considered final and not subject to appeal.
Keeping the Tournament on Time
All teams must be prepared to start a game 10 minutes early as per the ORA Operating Manual
G&T section. A 2:00 minute warm-up buzzer shall be used for all games. This should be set as
soon as the ice flood equipment leaves the ice. Teams need to be prepared to use this time
wisely, and be ready to start the game as soon as the 2:00 minute warm-up is completed.
The first game of each day will start at the scheduled time. On Sunday all final games will
start at the scheduled times.
Home Team Responsibilities
The Home Team will supply a scorekeeper for each game. The host will provide timekeepers &
shot clock operators.
End of Game
Coaches of the Home team are responsible for holding back players from exiting the ice, when
both teams must exit in close proximity. Coaches are responsible to make sure that players do
not pile onto the goalie at the end of the game. Serious injuries can occur.
9
Tie-breaking Rules (as found in the G&T Section of the ORA Operating Manual)
All round robin games will be played to the end of regulation time and may end in a tie. There will
be overtime in semi-finals and finals ONLY. Overtime will be 15 minute periods sudden victory.
The ranking of the tied teams will be determined in the following order:
1. If one of the tied teams has beaten all other tied teams, rank that team highest.
2. If still tied and all tied teams have not played each other go directly to Step 7.
3. If still tied, rank the teams in order of wins between only the tied teams.
4. If still tied, rank teams in order of the plus/minus (goals for minus goals against) only in games
between the tied teams.
5. If still tied, rank teams using the following formula only in games between the tied teams:
Goals For + Goals Against
Goals Against
(With the highest value being the higher ranked team)
6. If still tied, rank teams in order of the most goals for only in games between the tied teams.
7. If still tied, rank the teams in order of wins between all teams.
8. If still tied, rank teams in order of the plus/minus (goals for minus goals against) in games
between all teams.
9. If still tied, rank teams using the following formula in games between all teams:
Goals For + Goals Against
Goals Against
(With the highest value being the higher ranked team)
10. If still tied, rank teams in order of the most goals for in games between all teams.
11. If still tied, rank teams where the team with the most fully served penalties will rank lower.
12. If still tied, rank teams using least penalty minutes in games between the tied teams.
13. If still tied, rank teams using least penalty minutes in games between all teams.
14. At this point, if still tied, the following may be considered to break the tie:
a) Coin Toss
b) Draw from a hat
Home Teams in Semi-Finals and Championship Games
The highest ranked team at the end of round robin play will be the home team in both the
semi-final and Championship Games.
Medals
The two teams in the final will receive medals.
Substitutions
Player substitutions are only allowed under very special circumstances. Permission must be
granted by the G&T Committee and therefore, takes time to consider. These requests must be in
writing and submitted ahead of time for consideration.
Any requests for bench staff substitutions should be made through the coaching coordinator
before the event, when possible. No TRF Adjustment forms will be used at this event.
Any contested substitutions will be reviewed by the ORA G&T Committee and any unauthorized
substitutions will result in a sanction, ranging from reprimand to a fine and/or game default.
10

Code of Conduct.
THERE WILL BE A NO TOLERANCE RULE FOR ANY TYPE OF ABUSE, ON OR OFF THE

established to determine whether it will consider the issue and to render any related decisions.
All decisions of this committee are final.
