THE FAIR LAKES LEAGUE
Dear League Members and Friends,
It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone – but an eventful one
it has been! It was a year filled with welcomes to new retailers, fun celebrations
and fundraisers, cool new clubs and social channels.
The Fair Lakes Book Club took off with a bang, thanks to the direction of our fair
leader, Tammy Pearce. Tammy has organized and led spirited discussions amid
the ambiance of gracious host Blue Iguana. From the results of our meetings,
we understand that the poor little Goldfinch didn’t fare much better with our
readers than he did in the book.
We recap 2014’s comings and goings in Fair Lakes on page 29, where we
celebrate the citizens and successes of this fine community. And as we fly
headlong into the holidays we offer up some suggestions for seasonal décor
and its safe applications in our Home & Garden section. Every holiday issue of
A View from Fair Lakes includes a holiday gift suggestion list in our Tending the
Trends column. And once again we offer gift suggestions – but with a bit of a
twist. Our 2014 gift guide offers suggestions and directions for giving charitable
gifts in the names of those you hold dear.
Winter’s bite is almost on our doorstep and we provide suggestions for fun
and safe snow play in our feature article on page 8. We welcome newcomer
European Wax Center to our selection of salons and spas on page 15, and
we applaud the burgers and the benevolence of Red Robin on page 22.
In closing, we send our best wishes to all the residents, retailers and office
employees in Fair Lakes, and Ho-Ho-Hope you have warm and happy holidays.
Sincerely,
The League

T
he leaves have all but dropped from the trees, the temperatures
have fallen, and the Uggs and other fuzzy footwear
have been dragged to the front of the closet. Winter is
coming, ready or not. Along with summer, spring, and
fall, outdoor activities in the winter can be dangerous.
What do you need to do to enjoy the snowy season as
much and as safely as possible? Herein are some suggestions
on how and where to play safe in the wintery weather in Fairfax!
Protect the PH
Cold can be so cruel to snow bunnies both young and old. Cold temperatures
often mean low humidity, which dries out skin and bitterly cold winds can strip
moisture from exposed derma. Skin needs the right level of moisture and the
right pH balance on the surface layers to stay healthy. So if the temperature
is low enough for snow, pile on layers of clothing. Inner layers will help
insulate heat while in the frigid air. Outer layers should be worn to
protect the body from wind and water. Once back in from the cold,
stay away from soap – most soap has a higher pH balance than skin
surfaces. And stay away from hot water. Nothing sounds more appealing
after a day playing in the snow than a hot bath. But nothing is worse for your
skin. Hot water dries skin and leads to itchy misery!
Drink Up!
Some winter weather precautions may seem appropriate for the warmer
seasons, but are equally as important in the colder climes of winter. Stay
hydrated. Filling up on hot cocoa is a great way to keep your body warm in the
cold months, but plain water will do as well. When we are cold we generally
don’t feel thirsty so it is easy to become dehydrated during outdoor activities.
Don’t forget the sunscreen!
Too often we overlook the fact that the sun can be just as dangerous in the
winter as the summer. The sun’s rays may not be as strong or concentrated
in the winter, but snow serves as a reflector, bouncing those damaging rays
right back into your face.
8
Slip Sliding Away
Once you’re layered and lathered with moisturizer and sunscreen, it’s
time to head for the hills! Sledding is a fun, free, memory- making way
to while away a wintery day. While there are no official sledding parks
in Northern Virginia, there are plenty of handsome hills. Many claim that
hands down the best sledding in town is at
Mount Reston, located behind
the Unitarian Church at 1625 Wiehle Road. Others offer up the hill behind
Lees Corner Elementary as their top pick. You can also find good sledding
conditions at
Lake Fairfax Park and
Burke Lake Park. Wherever you
choose, make sure your hill is free of obstacles and has a long flat area at the
bottom for coasting to a safe stop. Dress kids in sensible winter wear and avoid
scarves that can get caught in a sled. Orthopedic surgeons recommend that
kids under the age of 12 wear safety helmets to avoid the risk of
head injury.
Ice is Nice
If skating is your preferred cold weather activity, you can find
some great spots in Fairfax where the ice is quite nice. There are an
abundance of indoor ice rinks that operate in the area.
Fairfax Ice
Arena is about a 20-minute drive down I-66.
Skatequest is located
in Reston, about 20 minutes north of Fair Lakes. Make sure you skate only
on specially prepared areas where the ice is strong and free of debris.
Make sure your skates fit comfortably and provide enough ankle support to
keep you on your feet. Wear warm clothing and gloves or mittens and make
sure you rest when you begin to tire.
Go the Distance
If you are looking for some great exercise with some
beautiful scenery, consider cross-country skiing. There
are a multitude of trails within a 45-minute radius of Fairfax.
Some of these trails include the
Bluemont Junction Trail,
the Cross Country Trail, and the
Mount Vernon Trail to
name a few. Before you hit those trails, be sure to dress in layers.
Cross-country skiing is an aerobic activity and you can overheat
quickly if you dress too warmly. Make sure to wear moisture-wicking
underclothes – no cotton!

TENDING THE TRENDS
2014 Gift-Giving Guide
I
t is the same refrain every year –
I don’t know what to give my
husband / wife / father / mother /
sister / brother / boyfriend / girlfriend /
for the holidays.
Finding the right gift for friends and
family can be a frustrating feat. Since
reading minds can be difficult, finding the
perfect gift is almost always a guessing
game. Well, guess no more! The next great
form of gift giving is here, and it happens
to influence more than just you and your
recipient. Charitable gift giving, the process
of donating to charity in one’s name, is
blessedly becoming a staple of holidays.
There are thousands of charities
that accept donations in others’ names,
offering you a multitude of options for
donating on someone else’s behalf. While
options are awesome, once again you are
presented with the question of what to
give – that is, which charity best suits the
personality of the recipient. Technology
solves the problem with a wealth of

websites that offer a variety of charities for
your contribution. You can purchase a gift
card from an online donation gift site and
your recipient can select the charity he or
she would most like to support.
Recipients can also take their charity
gift and get specific! Many charity
websites now provide specific packages
that allow you to determine how your
gift will be spent. There is something
gratifying in knowing that your donation
will purchase a food basket and toiletries
for a family in need, as opposed to just
going to an organization.

TENDING THE TRENDS
Giving is Good this Holiday Season
KEEP IT
LOCAL
Should you choose to keep it local
there are many worthy organizations
in Fairfax County in need of charitable
contributions. Herein we offer a few:
When you give a charitable contribution
in another’s name, your own satisfaction
will soar. Studies have shown that giving
to others can improve our health and
make us happier. The National Institutes
of Health found that when people give
to charities, it activates regions of the
brain associated with pleasure, social
connection, and trust, creating a “warm
glow” effect. Scientists also believe that
altruistic behavior releases endorphins in
the brain, producing the positive feeling
known as the “helper’s high.”
What better holiday gift can you offer
than giving other’s that “helper’s high”
by donating to charities in their name!
Online donation gift sites include:

Meet LeeAnn Corsi
Heather Chesky Photography
O
ne of the nicest things about
producing A View from Fair Lakes
is the opportunity to meet so
many of the wonderful folks who call Fair
Lakes home. Today we had the delightful
experience of getting to know resident
LeeAnn Corsi.
LeeAnn hails from Erie, Pennsylvania,
where her family still lives. She attended
Alleghany College in Meadville, PA,
where esteemed fellow alums include
President William McKinley, revolutionary
investigative reporter Ida Tarbell and super
lawyer Clarence Darrow. Upon graduating,
LeeAnn matriculated to American
University, where she achieved a Masters
degree in Spanish and Latin American
Studies. This very well educated young lady
now works in downtown Washington, DC.
LeeAnn settled in Arlington, Virginia
where she lived for five years until she
met the man of her dreams in a chance
encounter on the Metro. While much
of the DC area gripes about broken
escalators and train delays, LeeAnn’s
experience had a decidedly positive
outcome. She is currently planning her
wedding, scheduled to take place in July
of 2015.
A long time and avid runner, LeeAnn
recently completed her first marathon.
With enough short distance races and
half-marathons under her belt, LeeAnn
tackled the 26.2 mile Wineglass Marathon
in Corning, New York. She finished in
12
a very respectable four hours and ten
minutes. She attributes her success to
rigorous and disciplined training, and the
spectacularly scenic route of the race.
When she isn’t working or running or
falling in love, LeeAnn enjoys being
creative with various crafts, especially
knitting. She loves reading and is an
integral member of the Fair Lakes League
Book Club – she even won the Favorite
Literary Character Costume Contest at
the October Book Club Meeting! LeeAnn
also enjoys watching football with her
fiancée. With him a 49ers fan, LeeAnn a
Steelers fan and both of them rooting for
the Redskins, fall is a pretty full season at
their house!

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Welcome European Wax Center
F
air Lakes gets ever more sophisticated
by the day! Joining our stellar
selection of spas and salons is
elegant new arrival, European Wax Center.
The Fair Lakes EWC is one of 630 salons
across the country dedicated to the belief
that everyone has beautiful
skin and they deserve to
reveal it. Enticed by its
busy-ness and steady foot
traffic, Fair Lakes Center
was selected as the ideal
site for this newest venture.
Manager Alexa Czajkowski
expressed to us her delight
with her new digs: “It’s a
great feeling when you
come into a new area
and are welcomed with open arms by
everyone, and get such positive feedback
about what you are offering!”
Alexa joined European Wax Center a
year ago. Leaving a sports management
career for the personal services arena left
Alexa feeling a bit like a “fish out of water”
in the early days of her new world. But
her love for customer service propelled
her forward and today she takes great
pleasure in providing her clients with the
best possible experience at the salon.
From our own encounters, we can avow
that she excels in her efforts!
All of the specialists at European
Wax are licensed estheticians. They also
undergo a rigorous in-house training
program. Guest Service Associates and
www.FairLakes.com
Wax Specialists work hand in hand to
create the ultimate wax experience
for every guest every time. Alexa says
that EWC stands out from other hair
removal salons due to their unique Four
Step Process: Cleanse, Protect, Wax, and
Rejuvenate. Their exclusive
Comfort Wax and unique
product line pamper skin
both pre-and post waxing,
and they offer guests a full
education on skin care and
proper waxing techniques,
presenting personalized
products and packages
that further separate them
from the pack.
When she is not at the
salon, Alexa can be found in the great
outdoors with her two-year-old German
Shepherd, Ripley, or inside delving into
one creative crafty activity or another. Her
boyfriend and family also keep her quite
busy. But she truly enjoys her time at the
salon, and is anxious for the Fair Lakes
community to experience the pleasures
of being pampered at European Wax
Center. Toward that end, first-time guests
are treated to select waxing services at
absolutely no cost!

COMPETE.
JUNE 26 — JULY 5, 2015
Compete against your peers from

O
ne of the most important
professions in the world is that of
a public safety officer. The first to
respond in times of crisis, violence, and
tragedy, men and women who serve as
police officers, firefighters, and medics
boldly run to danger, compromising their
lives in the effort to save another. In the
mid 1980s, the Californian Police Athletics
Federation decided to honor this noble
profession by creating the World Police &
Fire Federation, which oversees the World
Police & Fire Games (WPFG). The first
Games were played among nearly 5,000
competitors in San Jose in 1985.
Held biannually, the WPFG calls
thousands of first responder athletes from
across the globe to compete in a series of
medal-awarding sports, much like the
Olympic Games. It has grown to attract
over 10,000 competitors from all six
populated continents and has been hosted
across North America and Europe. Hosting
the Games is an honor, and it brings the

and tourists flock to the 10-day event.
At the 1999 Games in Stockholm,

met Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Battalion
Chief Jerome Williams. They agreed to
begin an initiative to bid Fairfax County to
the Federation. With the help of Visit Fairfax

bid was awarded the 2015 Games.

For Fairfax County, the Games present

this event will have an enormously

INDIVIDUALS can register as either
general games or medical volunteers at
www.fairfax2015.com/volunteer. The 2015
Games will require upwards of 3,000
volunteers to take care of everything from
transporting athletes, welcoming visitors,
helping out the Technology Team in
displaying swift and accurate results, and
assisting Sports Coordinators.
BUSINESSES are offered a wealth of
partnership opportunities that will allow
them to show their support and respect
for the first responder community. There
are three essential partnership programs
that potential sponsors can pursue: the
Official Partner Program, the Proud Host
Program, and the Merchant Incentives
Program. Official Partners will benefit
greatly from the Games’ branding
opportunities, while Proud Host Partners
are encouraged to recruit volunteers as a
team and may elect to adopt a sport.
Merchant Incentives Partners have an
opportunity to showcase their services,
goods, and cuisine through offers to
visitors and athletes. All sponsors,
regardless of their level, will make the
most of the athletes’ experience through
funds, promotion, and manpower.

Sup on Super Foods
T
he days are becoming shorter,
the sun is shining a little less
bright, and the temperature is taking
a nosedive. Winter is fast approaching,
and you know what that means. When the
sun takes its seasonal leave and the snow
takes its place, it is hard for us to find the
motivation to hit the gym and maintain a
healthy and happy lifestyle.
It is easy to find excuses for our winterwashed drop in activity. It’s cold out there!
And who wouldn’t prefer sipping on some
hot chocolate in front of the telly. Winter
can cause emotional changes in many as
well. For some, the cold can lead to lower
levels of happiness – known as the “winter
blues”, characterized by mild depression, a
lack of motivation and low energy. When
this happens, fatty foods can be used as
an immediate pick-me-up. It would be
nice if we could justify adding a few extra
calories to keep us warm. But while certain
fats do help burn calories to keep you
warm and energized, excess caloric intake
creates white fat, which does nothing for
your body besides weigh it down.
What you eat has a huge impact on mood
and energy levels. Try to avoid refined and
processed foods that are not only void of
the nutrients your body craves, but they
hugely impact energy levels. The solution:
Super Foods!
Many super foods hit their prime during
the winter months. Take advantage
of them to stay happy and healthy.
Certain fruits shine in the winter, with
pomegranates and grapefruits offering
loads of vitamins and decreasing
cholesterol. Kale is rapidly becoming
the new health superstar when it comes
to leafy greens. Now known as one the
healthiest foods around, Kale is hugely
beneficial with its litany of life-saving
byproducts. It lowers cholesterol. It lowers
the risk of some cancers, including breast
and prostate. It boasts antioxidant and
anti-inflammatory benefits. The list goes
on and on. Squash is another winter
staple, with basement-level numbers for
calories and fat, but great quantities of
essential vitamins.
Throw these foods into your winter
diet and look and feel ready for the beach
– not the buffet!
Check out the Super Foods blog at
Wholefoods.com and then head over to the
East Market Wholefoods to stock up on some
seriously healthy goodness!

THE CHEF SUGGESTS
When the Red, Red Robin
Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin’ Along
R
ed Robin has been a Fair Lakes
favorite since it opened its doors
over 15 years ago. Without question,
the burgers are beyond compare,
with crazy variety,
bottomless fries and
sensational service.
Red Robin’s extremely
demanding standards
are the litmus test for the
best burgers in America.
Each year, Red Robin
sponsors the South Beach Wine and
Food Festival’s Burger Bash competition,
hosted by celebrity chef Rachel Ray.
Twenty-five curated chefs from across
America vie for the coveted Best of the
Bash Award. Winners have included Bobby
Flay, Michael Symon and Brad Halsten.
In addition to a monetary prize, the Best
of the Bash creation wins a spot on
22
Red Robin’s Select Burger menu.
Red Robin, nee Sam’s Tavern, opened
in Seattle in the 1940’s. Owner and
barbershop quartet member Sam loved
the song When the Red,
Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob
Bobbin’ Along so much
that he changed the
name of his restaurant
to Sam’s Red Robin. In
1973, the Royal Red
Robin Burger® – topped
off with a fried egg – made its first
appearance and the burger world was
forever changed. Today toppings include
that fabled fried egg, onion straws, chili,
guac, pineapple, shrooms, jalapenos
and you name it – literally! With Red
Robin’s Customizer Hub, you can choose
ingredients and menu items to meet your
tastes and dietary needs.

THE CHEF SUGGESTS
Red Robin is definitely about burgers –
but it’s about much more than that.
We visited with manager Bill Ross and
learned a little about the culture and
employment experience at Red Robin.
Red Robin’s culture is people- focused
and community-centered. From kindnessin-school campaigns to celebrating staff
members’ random acts of kindness, Red
Robin makes people the center of their
story. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
is Red Robin’s fundraising arm for the fight
against childhood cancer. Through special
in-restaurant fundraisers, Red Robin has
raised and contributed over $2.8 million to
Special Olympics. Perhaps most touching
of their philanthropic efforts is the Red
Robin Foundation, which supports their
team members through the hardships
of catastrophic events or financial
emergency. To date, the Foundation has
given over $2.5 million in relief assistance
to more than 7,000 Red Robin team
members.
Bill feels fortunate to be part of such
a magnanimous organization. He is
grateful for the comprehensive health
care coverage, 401K contributions, life
insurance and general commitment
from Red Robin to the emotional and
physical well being of their employees
and their families. Excellent benefits and
amazing incentives encourage Bill and his
managerial peers to give it their all every
day. And we at Fair Lakes are the lucky
beneficiaries of this energy and endeavor.

HOME & GARDEN
Coming Soon to a Front Yard Near You!
H
ere comes Santa Claus …
and Frosty … and Rudoph …
and eight tiny reindeer …
to decorate and dominate the December
landscape in neighborhoods the world
over. And Fair Lakes is no exception!
Exterior holiday décor has traveled
light years in variety and complexity.
Once garlands and wreaths were the
mainstay of wintertime trappings.
Then came twinkling tiny reindeer with
sparking Santa sleighs and lit-from-within
snowmen, nutcrackers and nativity scenes.
Today, giant inflatable characters are quite
commonplace. Towering teddy bears and
enormous elves dance and wave from
many a Fair Lakes lawn.
All that being said, holiday décor would
be nothing without the lights. Bubble
lights, micro lights, icicle lights, tea lights,
trunk lights and twinkle lights, lights of
every color imaginable, lights that hook, clip
and hang, there is a style for every taste.
But before you start channeling your inner
Clark Griswold, make sure you have a plan
or your house will look like someone blasted
lights out of a cannon all over your yard.
24
1.Test all your strands.
This is especially important if you are
using last year’s sparklers. Make sure
none of the cords are frayed or damaged,
and that all the bulbs are burning bright.
2.Select your focal point.
Decide in advance if you want your
front entry to shine, or your rooftop to
glow. Common areas for holiday lights
are door columns, porch balustrades,
rooflines, shrubs and evergreen trees.
3.Measure the surface before you
start stringing.
Make sure you have enough lights to
do the job. (The rule of thumb is 100
lights for every 1-1/2 feet of shrub or
tree surface.) And make sure you have
enough end-cord to reach your outlets.
4.Make sure your lights and extension
cords are designed for exterior use.
5.Use the right equipment for the job.
Aluminum and other metal ladders are
not a good choice when working with
any electrical material. There are many
new light-hanging tools that simplify
the job, and make it safe. Light clips
and poles preclude the need for ladders
altogether.
Lights and hanging accessories can be
found at Target. Other holiday décor
can be found at Kirklands, World Market,
JJ’s Hallmark.

BEAUTY ON A BUDGET
Men’s Fashion
“Clothes and manners do not make the man;
but when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance. “
– Arthur Ashe –
L
ike the elegant and understated
world champion tennis player, Arthur
Ashe, men of style need not be
flashy or flamboyant. They need only be
confident, composed and stylish. To that
end, we detour from our traditional menu
of make-up and moisturizers and address
the dress of men.
The Power Jean
Denim is the order of the day. No longer
confined to “Casual Fridays”, today jeans
are as acceptable at the boardroom table
as they are at the picnic table.
To be sure, fit is foremost. In order to
successfully carry off the “executive jean”,
they should be dark and straight. They
should be of a slim fit, absent studs,
embroidery, distressing, funky washes,
baggy high rises or skinny low rises. The
power jean should be paired with good
dark shoes, a pressed shirt and dark blazer,
or a well-tailored sweater – think Steve
Jobs in his 501’s and black turtleneck. *
Keeping it Crisp
When presentation is key – collars are too.
A nice new dress shirt comes with a clean
crisp collar. But one trip to the dry cleaner
and you can kiss that crispness goodbye.
Lots of dress shirts come with plastic collar
stays that bend or curl after laundering,
taking the collar right with them. The
solution: metal collar stays. Made of steel,
brass or silver, removable metal collar
stays ensure that your collar won’t curl or
stray. Metal collar stays come in multiple
lengths to fit different shirts.
*While jeans are de rigueur
in many workplaces,
accounting and
financial firms remain
the claim of the
suit-and-tie guy.

Watch Out!
Have cell phones displaced the handsome
timepiece? Not so! The watch on your
wrist can speak volumes about your
personal style. And watches are the one
piece of “man-jewelry” that everyone
can get behind. And with the rise in
demand for fashion watches, you can
find arm candy of every size and hue –
interchangeable straps and coordinating
dials. But all you really need in a watch
is one that matches your lifestyle. If it’s
simplicity you seek, then go for quartz.
Powered by a battery, the quartz watch
requires no winding or adjusting to
keep time and maintain accuracy. The
alternative automatic watch is a selfwinding mechanical watch that is wound
by the movements of the wearer’s wrist,
requiring more attention for sure, but
lauded by many as more authentic.

Shoe-be-do
A men’s footwear staple – the Oxford shoe
– has experienced a renaissance of sorts.
First worn by Oxford University students as
an alternative to the heavy high boots of
the 19th century, the “Oxonian boot” was a
much more comfortable, lighter, all-season
ankle boot with slits on the sides. Over
time the side slits made their way to the
instep, and eyelets were added for laces.
Today almost any lace-up shoe is called
an Oxford, and from there, the options in
colors, materials, heels, and laces abound.
Suede Oxfords are increasingly popular,
with styles ranging from bucks to saddle
shoes to wingtips. Blue, brown, white and
tan suede Oxfords can add significant
panache to your paws, while contrasting
colors in soles and shoelaces bring a little
more bold to your ensemble.

Year in
Review
2014 has been a fabulous year for Fair Lakes with celebrations, merry-making,
tournaments, and fundraisers that support and celebrate this spirited community of ours.
Here are a few highlights from this year.
Welcome Neighbors!
Some varied and valued new tenants
joined Fair Lakes’ dynamic retail and
residential community this year.
Bainbridge Fair Lakes opened its doors
to some very lucky residents who now
bask in their luxury apartments. OMG! My
Nails and European Wax Center joined
the lovely ranks of spas and salons that
serve Fair Lakes’ friends and families. And
CVS opened shop to make Fair Lakes
more accessible than ever. DSW also had
a major redesign and we were delighted
to fete them in a wonderful celebration in
March.
Playing Through!
Our 17th Annual Fair Lakes Golf
Tournament was held on June 5th at
Westfields Golf Club. We were delighted
to present to one of our favorite charities
– Our Daily Bread – the proceeds from
our Mulligan and Raffle Sales. Foursome
Eric Young, Tony Young, Dale Richter,
and Bryce Austin proudly claimed the
First Place trophy. Of course this great
event would not have taken place were
it not for the generosity of cosponsor
Shorenstein Properties. Also contributing
to the success of tourney #17 were
Tee-Off sponsor United Bank, snacks
sponsor Whole Foods, and local sponsors
Language Stars, Modern Optometry,
Reflections of You, UFC Gym, Pinstripes
Inc., Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Joe’s Crab
Shack, Avon Consultant Allison Horan,
Massage Envy, Cantina D’Italia, Mrs.
Green’s Natural Market, Tony’s NY Pizza,
Arbors at Fair Lakes, Applebee’s, Blue
Iguana, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Golf Galaxy,
Hair Cuttery, Dick’s Sporting Goods,
McDonald’s, Bagel Buddies, and GNC.
Thank you one and all!
Giving Blood,
Saving Lives
The summer 2014 Blood Drives once
again showed the compassion and
generosity of the Fair Lakes Community.
Fair Lakes Center was the venue for the
general public drive on June 14th and a
special corporate drive for the employees
of Fair Lakes was held on August 12th. A
heart-felt thanks to all who contributed
and participated in these events that
allowed us to bring life-saving resources
to INOVA Blood Donor Services.

Dollars for
Fair Lakes Scholars
Our 2014 Fair Lakes scholars are three of
Fair Lakes’ brightest minds, and include
Brandon Michael Blankenship, Christian
Noe Canales, and Kaitlyn Marie Ridler.
Brandon just started at the University of
Virginia and is passionate about computer
science. Christian is pursuing a degree in
education from James Madison University,
and continues to inspire and motivate
children from the Latino American
community. Kaitlyn is an ardent volunteer
for special needs children, and is pursuing
a Master’s degree in American History
at George Mason University. Each of our
scholars received a $3,500 cash award to
pursue their educational endeavors, and
were honored at an intimate ceremony at
Fair Lakes II on July 23rd. Future scholars:
look for applications to the 2015 program
this spring.
Fair Lakes Fall Fest
Fall Fest 2014 was an all-around
smashing success! Thousands turned
out for the fun at Fair Lakes Circle,
enjoying bouncy houses, a petting zoo,
farmer’s market, police and fire vehicles,
and beloved characters Captain Jack
Sparrow and Olaf the Snowman. Over on
the stage we enjoyed some awesome
entertainment from the Centreville and
Boyle School of Irish Dance Troupes, the
Go Active Show with Ronald McDonald,
and a Live Rainforest Animal Show from
the Leesburg Animal Park. We snacked on
delicious carnival food, and enjoyed treats
from some of our local vendors and stores.
Spike!
The sand courts in Fair Lakes saw a lot
of action this summer as the A and B
Volleyball Leagues played up a fury.
Congratulations to A League champions
Pray 4 Rain, and runners up Sets on the
Beach. Our B League champs were the
Pit Bosses. Look for registration packets for
the 2015 season this spring.
We look forward to 2015 and another fabulous year with the residents,
