Richard Parker Wayne Ritchie Gary Swanson Jeff Vangele Geza Yelenik W From the Helm ell I have some good news to report. Due to the excellent services of FYC Member Peter Ambrose, Esq. and his wonderful legal team, we have managed to get our deposit for the upstairs railing back. The second contractor is well along the way in fabrication mode and we should have it any week now – God willing. Another news report about the upstairs area is a member came up with a great name. So far this one is the one most members like the most – THE BRIDGE. If this is indeed the winning name, I shall give credit where credit is due in the name ceremony and/or my next Foghorn article. You know who you are! If you have an idea for a name, this is last call for any suggestions. Email or Facebook us. I am very proud to report that our membership have received a much needed boost due to the superior efforts of the Membership Committee, which is chaired by Donna Demattia. Donna and our Rear Commodore Ben Thrush held a 1-2 punch event this past weekend. They started off with a new member orientation and followed it right up with a membership drive open house. Many members brought in friends who they thought might be interested in joining FYC. Well it worked! I think to date they got somewhere around a dozen or so new members (check in hand) and a bunch more who are seriously considering membership. If you have friends who you think would love to be a part of our FYC family, bring them on down and show them everything FYC has to offer. A few house keeping notes for all members. First, the recent storm Irene came in a caused much havoc in the area. Our sister club Back Rock Yacht Club sustained significant damage. We have offered open arms in their time of need. Their launch is stationed at our dock for the near future and some sailing events have been moved to FYC. If you see a BRYC member please welcome them and feel free to give them a tour. Many, many of them are co-members already but you never know when we could pick up a few more so they would have a clubhouse to come eat, drink and enjoy during BRYC’s off season. Second, many have asked about the recent damage FYC incurred during Irene. Luckily we got off the hook pretty cheap. A few refrigeration and AC condensers needed repair. The boilers needed adjustment, the hot water heater needed to be replaced and some minor patches here and there were done. Due to the effort of Jerry Hogarth (yes again) we got away even cheaper. A big thanks to Jerry and The Boyz! Sláinte, George E. O’Connell From the Vice Commodore Summer may be over but the activities at FYC are certainly not. Our Rear Commodore, Ben, has events galore for October and the coming months. Check out our website for a list of upcoming events. You can access the Foghorn or our events calendar on our website. I also put photos of FYC past and current events. Check out the pics from Irene taken by Jose on the day of the storm. If you haven’t come down for lunch or dinner you are missing out on some really good food. We are now having the wait staff serve drinks for Thursday night dinner. Our new caterer is doing a fantastic job. Even though summer is over many of our sailors and fishermen are still out on the water. The October winds are great for sailing and the bluefish are usually running strong. We have our annual Ken Johnson Race on Sunday, October 2nd and other sailing events listed on our sailing section on FYC website. Sailing at FYC is a year round event with our Dink and Ideal 18 sailors starting in December and January. On Monday nights at 7pm the FYC Dart league has begun. No matter what your level of play or even if you have never played before, come on down for a really fun evening with a great group. I never played before and now that I’ve started, I never miss a Monday night. We choose teams at random and usually are finished playing by 9 or 930pm. Friday nights are still going strong with Swansons raw bar every Friday and music most Fridays. I will be looking forward to seeing more members for lunch, dinner, or any of our activities this month. See you soon. Dave Riordan who is in charge, tells me that those in violation are subject to a fine of $50.00. These trailers should have been moved by September 15. Please move it now before Dave really gets upset and advises the Board of Governors. Friday Night Happy Hour –Raw bar, lobster rolls, chowder– –Live Music– Monday Night Dart League 7:00 p.m. There are folks that continue to leave things at the Club without name or purpose other than to get them out of their way at home. One case in point is what appears to be a “Zuma” sailboat on its side. It is near the dinghy rack and is right in the way every time someone is putting a mast into the loft. Whoever owns this should remove it immediately before drastic action is taken. You know who you are and we elicit your cooperation. Moorings will be coming out soon...all should have proper identification thereon so that when Ryan pulls them, he knows whom to bill and the owners can tell which one is theirs in the Spring. The next cruising get-together will be sometime in April...this is the famous ‘Coffee An’ and we look forward to seeing the folks on that day. As we draw closer, we will give you the detail on this...and we thank you...
