1905
Barbary’s hull designed in Scandinavia.
1926
Barbary built, launched and raced in
California.
1938
Legend has it that the famous screen star Errol Flynn
won Barbary in a card game.
1945
Barbary cruised the world.
1947
October 16: Barbary arrived in New Zealand from Fiji.
1951
H. Davies purchased Barbary for £1, 760.
1973
Barbary was refitted and joined the Green
peace anti-nuclear protest to Mururoa Attol
in the Pacific Ocean.
1976
Barbary broke moorings in a storm and
wrecked in Auckland.
1981-2010 Bill Dawson spent 2yrs salvaging and restoring
Barbary and sailed Lake Taupo commercially.
2011
Barbary was revived, refurbished and re-powered
with an eco-friendly electric motor to meet the clean,
green future head on.
2012
Barbary proudly celebrated 30 years of sailing to
Taupo’s iconic Maori Rock Carvings.
2013-2014 Barbary received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of
Excellence and Qualmarks Enviro Silver Award.
2014...
Barbary owners Jamie and Sarah Looner purchased
and beautifully refurbished Lake Taupo’s longest
