Dear Associate,
Only four years on from the start of the global financial crisis, the 27-country euro zone has fallen into its second
recession, as the gross domestic product shrank by 0.3 percent in 2012 according to the European Union’s statistics
office. As the weak economy is putting the margins of our customers under pressure, the markets for industrial
packaging have also become very price sensitive. FIBC distributors and manufacturers in Europe have therefore
been witnessing an unknown pressure on prices in recent years.
At the same time customers’ demands towards their suppliers are constantly growing. Not only do they expect high
quality products and services, but also corporate environmental and ethical management are more and more becoming
a prerequisite for the choice of their suppliers. On top, FIBC producers and distributors have to adapt to important
changes in the rather complex European legislation, such as the new European food contact legislation.
EFIBCA as the trade association of the FIBC industry in Europe is thus gaining additional importance, firstly by informing
its members and helping them to adapt to these new challenges, and secondly also by responding to customers’
questions and concerns. The association is taking an active lead in the industry as the range of activities shown on the
next pages demonstrates. EFIBCA is hereby building trust and reputation to the benefit of the FIBC industry in general
and EFIBCA’s member companies in particular.
Thanks to all members for the continued support provided to EFIBCA. Further FIBC manufacturers and distributors
are welcome to join the association. Let’s speak with one voice in order to best represent the interests of the FIBC industry
in Europe.
Sincerely yours,
Oliver Grüters, EFIBCA President
