PLAN NOW FOR NATIONAL 4-H WEEK
October 5th - October 11th
Have fun planning a window display in your community, and encourage members to display the items
they have created. Show some of the ribbons received at the County Fair. Be sure to give a name and a
phone number as a contact for interested families.
Perhaps you might have a special parents’ night or other activity that will give you an opportunity to
share 4-H with others.
The theme this year will be “4-H - A Carnival of Knowledge” Be sure to fill out the form on the
following page by September 26th, 2014 to register your display. You should have your display
completed by Saturday, October 4th, so judges can plan their route and time. A certificate will be left by
the judges so you know it has been judged.
When you have taken the display down, be sure to write a thank-you note to the place that hosted your
display.
Due in the 4-H Office no later than Friday, September 26th

The 2014 Chautauqua County 4-H

Who can sell?
All members and leaders are asked to participate in our
Annual 4-H Fundraiser. Cloverbuds are not encouraged
to sell.
What are the profits used for?
Profits from the Annual Fundraiser will be used to support the continuation of 4-H in
2015.
What company are we using for our sales?
We have selected: The Basket Company and Magnum Graphics
What kinds of products do we sell?
Delicious candy and trail mixes, 5 varieties to choose from! And 4-H Decals.
What if I have questions?
Questions can be answered by the 4-H Office. Email Emily or Lisette for more
information [email protected] or [email protected]
What are the rules of the annual fundraiser?
 Money is collected at time of sale
 Any club profits should stay in the club treasury and should not be distributed
to club members
 Items should be paid at the 4-H office in ONE TOTALED money order or
cashier’s check, per club made payable to CCE-Chautauqua County. All money
collected is to be turned into the 4-H Office with order forms. Incentives and
shared profits will be distributed once ALL funds have been collected.
Money must be turned in with order forms.
Please collect all money at time of sale.
Fundraising Policy for 4-H Clubs.
The 4-H Youth Development Program Committee would like to remind clubs and 4-H organizations that all
fundraising activities must come before the 4-H Program Committee before fundraising can be done. The
policy of Chautauqua County 4-H is that we sponsor an annual county-wide fundraiser for all groups to raise
funds. Participation in this sale is not mandatory. However, 4-H groups may not conduct any other fundraising
events without prior permission from the 4-H Program Committee.
In general, the 4-H Program Committee would like to see strong support of the Annual Fundraiser as a way to
support our youth activities. This will allow our program to limit the time and effort devoted to fundraising to
a single time during each year. If a club elects not to participate in the annual Fundraiser, they may be
barred from any other fundraising activities. The Annual Fundraiser is not limited to clubs. Lone members
may participate on behalf of 4-H. There is a request-for-fundraising application form available at the 4-H
Office. If you seek to raise funds, call the office, we will gladly mail or fax the application to you. The
completed request will be presented at the next scheduled Program Committee meeting.

The Wild Oats 4-H Club helped the
Ellington Volunteer Fire Dept. with a
community service project for their recent
chicken BBQ. Club members baked desserts
for the event through coordination of their
foods project. It was a great success and the
fire department was very appreciative of the
extra help with supplying the desserts. The
club hopes to continue this community
service project again next year.

Hewitt Meeder Earns $1,500 Farm
Credit East Scholarship
Farm Credit East, the Northeast's largest
agricultural lending cooperative, recently
awarded $46,500 in college scholarships to 31
student recipients. Each student received a
$1,500 scholarship to apply towards his or her
higher education.
Stefanie Lundmark, Farm Credit East senior loan officer,
presenting Hewitt Meeder, of Sherman, N.Y., with a 2014
Farm Credit East scholarship.
Congratulations to Hewitt Meeder, the son of
Hewitt and Colleen Meeder of Sherman, NY,
who is the recipient from the Mayville, N.Y.
office territory. Hewitt has been an active
member of Chautauqua County 4-H for the
past eight years, participating in 4-H Dairy
Judging, Dairy Challenge, 4-H Dairy Quiz
Bowl and 4-H Dog Obedience, Grooming and
Handling and Agility.
Hewitt was also selected to participate in our
local 4-H Dairy Youth Explorers Program and
the Cornell University Junior Dairy Leaders Program, which he recently graduated from at Empire Farm
Days.
Hewitt has also been an active member of the Sherman FFA, and earned an individual silver (and team
bronze) at the National FFA Convention in the Agricultural technology Mechanical Systems Contest.
Hewitt has also worked on many farms and currently works on a local dairy farm, where he milks the
dairy herd.
Hewitt will be attending Alfred State College this fall to study Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Since farming remains one of the top five most dangerous occupations, he hopes to use his degree to
design and fabricate agricultural equipment and implements that will improve efficiency and safety in
the agricultural industry.
Best wishes to Hewitt Meeder for a successful educational experience as he works toward a future
career in agriculture.

This meeting will discuss what to expect in the

New for 2014-2015:
If you are in your very first year in the Beef Project, you must choose to register in either the heifer project or the beef steer
project. Once you have declared which project you will participate in, you may register two animals (either two heifers or
two steers) in the project instead of just one. However, only one of those animals will be vouchered in June and be allowed
to come to Fair next July. Hopefully, this will increase the odds that everyone will be able to bring an animal to Fair.
