This reminds me of a few incidents concerning being a good neighbor to those who live near our church and school. An anonymous lady called me a while back all upset that someone had blocked her driveway while parking for a funeral. I guess it remains impressed in my mind because of the few “choice” words she used. She said it is bad enough that they have to deal with the school and Sunday mass traffic and parking but also during the week it is too much to deal with their inconsideration. I can sympathize with her since I’m sure there are those who ignore the hardship they cause for their convenience. One time a parishioner was hit by a car on Paris Rd. as she was walking across because the driver could not see her well, due to illegally parked cars on the state highway in front of the church. Thankfully she was not seriously injured. New no parking signs were placed on the roadside and we were warned that cars will be ticketed. Please obey all traffic signs and laws when driving to and parking for Church and school events. Please use the parking area between the church and school as the first place to try and park. We will try to have the gates open for easy traffic flow. The gate behind Jeanfreau’s market on Trist St. is always open. We created a new parking area next to the gym also which has parking bumpers and is fairly close to the entrance by the baptism fount inside the church. These two lots and along the streets on church and school property are the best places to park and not inconvenience or endanger anyone. Please drive slowly in the area. The parking lot will only take a few minutes to empty so have patience and don’t rush to get out of mass and on the road. Coming to the church earlier before mass will help the traffic situation. It is good to not be rushing into the parking lot and walking in late after mass has begun. We need time to transition from our daily thoughts and distractions to worshipping God. You can spend the early time in the church in silent prayer or praying the rosary with the congregation. Confession is also available before mass. Proper preparation for the Eucharist will bring you more of God’s peace to face the hectic world. Courtesy, patience and consideration of others is part of being a good neighbor and Christian love and respect. “Go and do the same!” Yours In Christ, Fr. Lance Campo PS: I will be away next week for a short retreat and vacation in Philadelphia from July 19-28, Fr. Marlon will be here to serve any needs you may have. As part of the ongoing promotion of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Office of Evangelization would like to take this opportunity to catechize and further explain the Jubilee Indulgence. The Indulgence can be obtained by walking through the Holy Door at St. Louis Cathedral, or by visiting the other specially designated pilgrimage sites listed below. In addition to a pilgrimage, the Jubilee Indulgence may also be obtained through participating in the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Whether one walks through the Holy Door, goes on pilgrimage, or participates in a Work of Mercy, it is necessary to receive Holy Communion, participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and pray for the Holy Father within three days to receive the grace of the indulgence. For the sick and those unable to participate in a pilgrimage or Work of Mercy, Pope Francis has granted the ability to obtain the same Jubilee Indulgence by receiving Holy Communion or participating in Mass through various means of communication (TV – WLAE Sunday 11:00 AM/Radio – 690AM Sunday 11:00 AM). Lastly, Pope Francis granted the Jubilee Indulgence to prisoners, stating that they can receive the indulgence in their prison chapels. In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Archbishop Aymond has designated the following Churches as Jubilee Pilgrimage Sites: Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis King of France (Only Holy Door) National Votive Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Shrine of the Vietnamese Holy Martyrs St. Jude Shrine National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos St. Joseph Church and Shrine on the Westbank St. Joseph Abbey Divine Mercy Parish St. Ann Church and Shrine You are cordially invited to attend a presentation on HUMAN TRAFFICKING sponsored by the Respect Life Ministry of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church.
