About MOCSEM
The Mustang Owners Club of SouthEastern Michigan
(MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a group of
individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the
Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun-filled
cars ever made. We are enthusiasts of all ages and from
all walks of life who are enjoying a love affair with the
many generations of America’s Premier Pony Car.
Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from 1964½
to the current models, we love them all. The mission of
MOCSEM club members is to enjoy, collect, restore, and
preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories
of the people and the roles that they played in making this
one of the greatest cars of all time. Although Mustang
ownership is not a requirement for club membership, your
enthusiasm, expertise, and / or love of the automobile are
most welcome.
Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in
varying body styles, models and years. Club members are
always exchanging information, providing sources for
parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or
maintaining their Mustangs. Our members are a diverse
group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern
Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the Ford
Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on
the second Tuesday of each month. Our monthly
newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with
reports on club activities, technical information, feature
stories, Ford and Mustang news and product information,
advertisements and business service locations, and more.
Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting
events, cruise nights, museum tours, visits to automotive
attractions and happenings, and technical sessions.
General Meetings
General membership meetings are held the
second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at:
Warren Valley Banquet Center

A buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 pm for $13 perperson which includes basic beverages. (A cash bar is
also available.) So come early and socialize over dinner.
The dinner menu will vary every month and will be
published on the event calendar at www.mocsem.com.
General meetings are open to the public, often include
guest speakers, and are a great way to learn more about
the club and get to know our board and members.

Bring on 2016!
Happy New Year everyone! Yes, 2016 is now here and
MOCSEM is already hard at work getting ready for it!
Planning has begun for what we expect will be a huge
Mustang Memories show this year. The reason? We
will be featuring a big “Mustang Colors War” club
competition between the Reds and the Yellows! Plus,
for the first time in Mustang club history, we will be
hosting a “National Mustang II Reunion” to help
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Cobra II. As
you might imagine, our own John Clor of Ford
Performance will be spearheading this unique secondgeneration reunion, where original Mustang II Ford
designers Dick Nesbitt and Buck Mook have been
invited to participate in both a special pre-show dinner
party and autograph session, as well as to help judge
Mustang II’s during the Memories show for exclusive
awards. And that’s not all. We will also be hosting a
“Terminator Reunion” for all 2003-04 SVT Mustang
Cobras, highlighted by a book-signing for Marcie
Cipriani’s just-released Second Edition of “Iron Fist,
Lead Foot – John Coletti and Ford’s Terminator.”

This all-new revamped hardcover version of Frank
Moriarty’s acclaimed 2004 paperback includes a
Foreword by John Coletti himself, with lots of new SVT
content, photos and other enhancements.I can’t wait to
get my copy! We have some other cool stuff in store as
well, so stay tuned for more information. Our yearly
planning session will take place in early February to
hammer out final details of the Mustang Memories
show and discuss other events we’d like to set up for
2016. I hope everyone has had time to unwind and
enjoy the holiday season with their loved ones! I look
forward to seeing you all soon at the next meeting. In
the meantime, please be careful driving this winter.
Before you know it, we will be pulling our ponies out of
the stable for another summer of fun!

Eight years later, she (the car) came out fully
restored. Despite being painted Black when I had
bought it, she is now back in her original color,
Twilight Turquoise. And yes, the car is all matchingnumbers correct, except for the trans.
Kim & Chuck Waggoner’s 1965 ‘K-Code’ Fastback
I bought our 1965 Mustang Fastback back in 1974
for just $175. It had been stolen and stripped when I
bought it. Even though a lot of parts were missing,
the reason I bought the car was, 1.) The price; and
2.) It was a true "K-code" car.
Over the years it was simply put on the back burner,
as they say, because raising a family came
first. Then one day my wife Kim asked me, “What
would it take to get the Mustang into shape for taking
it to car shows?”
I have to say it turned out rather great for a backyard
job. It has sure been a lot to fun to own and drive.

MOCSEM Social Director
Get ready for another fun-filled year of events!
Wow – can you believe 2016 is here already? I hope
everyone had a happy, healthy and safe Christmas
and New Year’s break.
That’s when our restoration project finally began.
The Mustang went into the garage and was torn
down right to the unibody.
Well, I have responded to the call to help out
MOCSEM. I will be your social director for the
coming year. Please feel free to contact me with
automotive events you know about or any ideas for
activities or events that we may be able to organize.
The effort would be worth it. This particular 1965
Mustang Fastback is a “K-Code” car, which means it
is powered by a HiPo 289. It also featured the muchdesired Black interior with a four-speed manual
transmission. What’s more, it has a Ford 9-inch rear

9 minutes of fame that Mike Rey and I had enjoyed
last summer during Woodward Dream Cruise and
Mustang Memories week. (Check it out online at:
http://www.autoblog.com/2015/09/17/mustang-alleywoodward-car-club-usa/) We were honored to
represent MOCSEM, metro Detroit Mustang owners
and Ford Motor Company by giving some time to a
media interview.
I attend most MOCSEM membership meetings, so
please look me up. I would love to meet all of you.
Last month, a group of us went up to the Stahls
Automotive Foundation museum in Chesterfield,
which is up near New Baltimore, MI. The idea to visit
Stahls came from none other than our own John Clor
of Ford Performance. Unfortunately, John said that a
scheduling conflict kept him from attending with us.
There was a MOCSEM caravan set up to run from
Taylor to Chesterfield, led By Geoff Booth. (Thank
you, Geoff, for stepping up in my absence.)
The feedback from those that were able to attend
was positive. Even though Stahls features an multimarque collection, there were some nice Fords (and
yes, a Mustang) on display. We’d rate it as a “mustsee” if you haven’t been yet.
that, John?) and perhaps even for those who would
like to take another look.
Mr. Clor has also suggested another MOCSEM
museum tour – this time on the western end of the
state to the Gilmore Car Museum. John tells us that
the Gilmore is one of Gale Halderman’s favorite
museums to visit (other than his own, we’d guess!).
MOCSEM was the first Mustang club to make an
official visit to the Halderman Barn down near
Dayton, OH, where many of us first learned that in
addition to doing design work on the original
Mustang (and several subsequent Mustangs),
Halderman had also penned some Lincolns over the
years. That’s why, as John explained, Gale was on
the committee that helped build the Lincoln Motor
Car Heritage Museum on the Gilmore grounds.
(There’s also a Model A Ford Museum on site!)
Clor himself is participating in the Gilmore’s 2016
Lecture Series, which is conducted at 3 p.m. on
Sundays from January through April at the museum.
(Admission to Lectures is only $5, or free with a paid
admission to the Gilmore.) John is giving his lively
“Mustang in Ford Performance History” presentation
(which he has delivered at Mustang club meetings
and banquets all across the country) on Sunday,
February 7, 2016, so if you’ve never experienced this
popular walk down Mustang’s memory lane, this
might be a good day for you also explore the
Gilmore, where John’s talk will be capped off by
another book-signing for his new hardbound
“Mustang 2015 – The New Generation.”). It follows a
similar appearance John made at the Library of
Michigan on January 9th up in Lansing.
John helps MOCSEM arrange for many of the guest
speakers we feature at our monthly membership
meetings, and while Mike Rey is proud of the many
special appearances he has booked for our
meetings, one of the most famous of all came in
December – none other than Santa himself! (While
some members hinted that Mr. Claus sounded a little
bit like MOCSEM member Mark Koehler, few would
disagree that his Ho-Ho-Ho and jolly laugh were
ringers for ol’ St. Nick!) We also had representatives
from the various charities that MOCSEM supports,
including collecting for Toys for Tots on behalf of the
U.S. Marines. One thing is certain: The December
meeting is one everyone should be sure to attend.
We may even plan another visit to Stahls sometime
during the year for those who could not make it (get

regional events to note as we are still at work
compiling the 2016 club events listing. Please check
the MOCSEM website calendar frequently for the
latest event details, and/or feel free to contact me
with questions, ideas and feedback. I hope to see
and meet many of you at the next General Meeting!
Turns out, my supervisor at Ford Performance saw
no issue in me serving as Editor for the club as long
as it does not compromise my neutrality in my work
promoting and supporting other Ford enthusiast
organizations. Besides, I can’t go around telling club
members to “get involved” with their club if I don’t
practice what I preach, right? So here I am.

Motor City Musings
By John Clor
MOCSEM Editor
OMG – What have I signed up for?
Yes, it’s true: After someone had nominated me to
become the MOCSEM Editor for 2016 during our
meeting a while back at the Automotive Hall of
Fame, I had somehow agreed to accept the position.
I’m calling this new monthly column “Motor City
Musings,” resurrecting the name I had once used in
one of four Mustang magazines for which I’ve written
(two of which are now-defunct). Of course I hope you
are all reading my “Ford Performance Corner”
column in the MCA’s Mustang Times. But this one
will be different because, well, MOCSEM is different.
Coincidentally, the timing to become Editor of The
Accelerator for MOCSEM couldn’t be better, as my
10-year stint as Editor of SVT Enthusiast magazine
has just ended with the recent sale of the SVT
Owners Association (SVTOA) to the principals of
SVTPerformance.com. But with my job managing all
of the Enthusiast content on FordPerformance.com,
it’s not like I need any extra writing and editing work.
I just wanted to better connect with all of you!
But there’s a catch: For this to work for both of us, I
need your help. Because I travel so much for Ford, I
can’t often attend many of MOCSEM’s meetings and
events. That means I’ll need your notes, your stories,
your photos, your ideas and your comments – so
together we can tell the story of life as a MOCSEM
member. So first off, each and every one of you
needs to send me the story of you and your Mustang
– either to appear as “Member of the Month” or even
in the “Ford Fan Spotlight” on FordPerformance.com.
(use either my personal email or [email protected]
– as long as you remember to send me something
every month. If not, I warn you – I’m going to just use
this space in The Accelerator for . . . well, my own
personal musings about Mustangs. And you won’t
want that – trust me! You should know what happens
when I start talking: you better put on a pot of coffee!

Mustang In The News
Editor’s Note: In case you are still living under a
rock and for some unexplainable reason do not get
the weekly “Fast News From Ford Performance”
email, we’ll choose a few interesting Mustang media
items to appear in this space each month that you
may have missed:
(From Wards Auto):
Ford’s ‘Voodoo’ 5.2-Liter V-8
in the Shelby GT350 Mustang
Makes Ward's 10 Best Engines
Ford has no trouble muscling its way onto this year’s
10 Best Engines List with its 526-hp naturally
aspirated 5.2L bruiser of a V-8 in the new Shelby
GT350 Mustang.
With its heralded flat-plane crankshaft and weightreducing Plasma Transfer Wire Arc cylinder coating,
Ford Performance’s “Voodoo” V-8 casts a spell on
WardsAuto editors by demonstrating that a redline of
8,250 rpm is not something to fear – but embrace.
The Voodoo engine does everything well, from
puttering around town to frightening small animals.
WardsAuto editors consider it the pinnacle of
internal-combustion engineering.
(From PRNewswire):
REC Watches Honors American
Automotive History with P-51
Watch, Made from Recycled
1960s-era Ford Mustangs
COPENHAGEN, Denmark – The iconic Ford
Mustang of the 1960s provides the inspiration – and
the raw material – for the latest creation from REC
Watches. Made from salvaged and recycled
Mustangs, the P-51 wrist watch is a must-have
timepiece for anyone with a passion for classic cars
and muscular, bold design. The P-51 name is also a
reference to the WWII-era combat fighter, from which
Ford borrowed the nickname "Mustang." (Editor’s
Note: See next month’s Accelerator for John Clor’s
column on how this statement is totally incorrect!)
Thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, the P-51 watch
pilot program has already topped its funding goal.
A number of design flourishes make reference to the
classic car from which each watch is made. The
timepiece itself is powered by an automatic
mechanical engine. Christian Mygh and Jonathan
Kamstrup, founders of REC Watches, asked for
ideas for their company's projects, and the choice of
the Ford Mustang as the model for the P-51 was
determined by a poll on the REC Watches website.
Derived from the 5.0L “Coyote” V-8 that won Wards
10 Best Engines trophies in 2011 and 2012, the new
5.2L, with old-school port fuel injection, 6-speed
manual transmission and using premium fuel,
reaches the 100 hp/L threshold, which is extremely
difficult for a big engine without forced induction.
Truly suited for hammering around the track, the
GT350’s engine is described as “positively demonic”
by a Mustang loyalist intoxicated by the brash
exhaust note and subtle but soothing shimmy at idle.
"The Mustang is the king of the American muscle
cars," says Mygh. "It's as American as apple pie.
Sadly, there are many Mustangs rusting away in
garages and junkyards. We want to recover, recycle
and reclaim these classic cars in a way that does
justice to their spirit of freedom and power."
The P-51 will be available in three distinct variations,
yet each one harkens back to the Ford Mustangs of
half a century ago. The P-51-01, for instance,
features skeleton and orange hands over a black dial
with a black calf-leather strap. Last year, REC
Watches released its first collection of unique
watches based on the classic Minis of the 1960s.
As with any piece of fine art, the history of individual

classic cars is important. To that end, each P-51
comes with a "Story Card," featuring an NFC chip
and QR code. When scanned, the Story Card
activates a link to a video telling the story of the
specific car behind the watch.
According to AutoGuide, an upcoming documentary
called simply “Ben Collins: Stunt Driver” features the
former Stig quipping that when it comes to cars, the
Ford Mustang is the “weapon of choice” among stunt
drivers.
With the Kickstarter campaign going so well, many of
the limited rewards have already been exhausted;
however, several compelling rewards are still
available. Backers can expect their rewards to ship
in Spring/Summer 2016.
In the documentary, Collins gets behind the wheel of
a myriad of vehicles and puts them through various
high-speed challenges in a quest to find the ultimate
stunt car. While many vehicles are put through the
paces, it is ultimately the 2015 Ford Mustang GT that
came out the clear winner. Achieving 0.97 g of lateral
acceleration, Collins was also impressed by the
healthy 435-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 and responsive
suspension.
About REC Watches
REC is the creation of Christian Mygh and Jonathan
Kamstrup. They're both Danish, (relatively) young,
dry-humored and passionate about watches and
cars. Their bright idea was to fuse all those elements
together in a watch brand. After a lot of
brainstorming, and a bottle of whiskey (might have
been two), REC Watches was born.
(From StangTV):
The Stig: Ford Mustang is Stunt
Drivers’ ‘Weapon of Choice’
For a long time, a great deal of mystery surrounded
the identity of Top Gear’s team racing driver, “The
Stig.” It was eventually revealed that rally racing
professional Ben Collins was the man behind the
mask, and after seven years of entertaining Top
Gear TV audiences, Collins was unceremoniously
dumped from the show’s production, replaced with . .
. another white Stig. Nonetheless, nobody can deny
Collins’ skill behind the wheel, and any vehicular
endorsement from him carries quite a bit of weight.
“The point of this adventure was to find the perfect
car for an epic, high-octane Hollywood-style car
chase, and it’s the iconic Ford Mustang that gets top
billing,” Collins said. “Mustang has starred in many a
classic car chase during the past 50 years, and is
still the stunt driver’s weapon of choice to leave the
bad guys standing in a cloud of tire smoke.”
Ford could not have paid for a more ringing
endorsement from the former Stig.
