YOUROPE – THE EUROPEAN FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION
Founded in November 1998
Yourope members are dedicated to improving the European festival
scene in terms of:
• working conditions
• health and safety issues
• environmental awareness
• exchange of knowledge and information
• promoting the cross-border exchange of live music talent
The overall aim of the association is to collaborate, share experiences
and to pinpoint areas that would benefit from a joint approach. Having
gained respect within the industry and at government level, Yourope
also has the power to lobby for all legal and industry issues relating to
the European festival industry on behalf of its members and together
with other associations in the live music business.
Yourope also focuses on other key issues for festivals – such as exchange of information regarding marketing and sponsorship, contracts,
production riders or radio/TV/internet rights and more.
After several workshops in 2012–2014 and under guidance from music
lawyer Ben Challis, the Yourope standard terms for artist contracts and
a standard agreement are available in a new version to use in the 2014
festival season.
ETEP – EUROPEAN TALENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Yourope is also a founding partner of the European Talent Exchange
Program (ETEP) and has been active during Eurosonic Noorderslag for
many years. ETEP stimulates the circulation of European artists within
Europe by performing at selected festivals troughout Europe. The result
is impressing: Every year more than 200 confirmed shows by over 70
unique European artists from at least 20 countries at the now 90 - and
counting - ETEP festivals! Since the start of the ETEP program in 2003
a total of 1970 shows by 708 European artists from 26 countries were
presented at the 90 ETEP festivals (2003 - 2013)
www.etep.nl
Due to financial support from the European Commission for the next
years Eurosonic Noorderslag, Yourope and all other participating
partners will be able to continue the already successful ETEP program
and develop it. In the next years we will be able to add more festivals
and create more results for the selected ETEP acts and festivals and
work on better opportunities and border breaking carriers for European
Artists in Europe.
YES GROUP – YOUROPE EVENT SAFETY GROUP
Since 2006, Yourope has organised fifteen health & safety seminars
for festival security, crowd management, health, safety and production staff from across Europe. Supported and facilitated by a steering
committee led by Chris Kemp from Mind Over Matter Consultancy and
Henrik Bondo Nielsen from the Roskilde Festival, the seminars and
workshops have had a growing impact on health and safety in Yourope
in recent years. The new look seminars have been very popular where
any festival in Yourope can present a session or workshop on a problem
that they have encountered and get those in the seminar to help them
to solve it. The YES group in cooperation with the International Centre
for Crowd Management and Security Studies at Bucks New University
provide a Professional Certificate in Event Safety and Security Management for all of those wishing to promote education at their festivals
across Europe. This helps to disseminate good practice amongst the
festivals and deliver a safety culture across Europe.
The 16th Yourope Safety Seminar (May2nd–5th including pre and post
courses) will take place in Larvik (Norway) as part of the open series of
seminars which run alternately with the closed seminars which are for
Yourope members only. The 17th seminar will take place in Groningen
in January 2015 at the Eurosonic Noordeslag Festival, Groningen (NL)
Yourope members don’t pay admissions or get special discounts. The
first health and safety newsletter will be released to members after the
Larvik seminar.
GREEN‘N‘CLEAN / GO GROUP (GREEN OPERATIONS EUROPE)
Green issues mark one of the main topics for Yourope. Since 2006 the
association offers its members a broad range of environmental guidelines for music festivals and an online tool to go along with them.
In spring 2014 these guidelines are updated and ready for this year‘s
festival season. Festival organisers are given customised advice and
reiceve the prestigious „Green‘n‘Clean Award“ by fulfilling the Yourope
standards. So far, almost 40 Yourope members from 13 countries have
achieved the award.
Yourope is a main contributor and driving force of the GO Group (Green
Operations Europe). It is an independent, pan-European and cross-industry think-tank to inspire people in the music festival and event industry to run their operations greener and smarter. GO Group stimulates best practise exchange and active communication between events
and suppliers. Several international workshops were organized in cooperation with hosting Yourope members (such as Amsterdam 2011
with ID&T/Mysteryland, Budapest 2012 with Sziget and Paris 2013 with
We Love Green). GO Group contributed to the GreenEvents Europe conferences and other well established industry gatherings (such as Eurosonic Noorderslag, Nuits Sonores and Medimex) and will do so and even
more in the future.
Go Group is also sponsoring the Green Operations Award in the European Festival Awards which highlights festivals that have made a significant contribution to or achievement towards developing more
sustainable events. There is only one event awarded each year, so one
could say that the Green Operation Award is the ‘Green Oscar’ for the
European festival scene.

FESTIVAL AWARDS EUROPE
Yourope and Festival Awards Ltd. worked in co-operation with Eurosonic
Noorderslag to launch the European Festival Awards in October 2009.
The 5th edition of the Festival Awards Europe (with 14 categories) took
place in January 2014 in the context of Eurosonic Noorderslag at Groningen (NL). Over 650‘000 public votes were cast in the voting period
at the end of 2013.
