POTENTATE’S MESSAGE
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. We have many ways to celebrate the upcoming season and I hope you all enjoy this time with family and
friends. The Divan and members of Tebala have been busy
traveling and visiting other Shrines. The Potentate’s Ball at
Tripoli Shrine was enjoyed by Larry Keyser and lady Jean,
Tom Watson and lady Nancy and Bill Robertson, P.P. and lady
Barb. Members of Tebala who attended the Chicago Shriners
Hospital 90th Anniversary Gala were Larry and Jean Keyser,
Matt and Rachael Thomann, Hollie and Anne Guist and Les
and Pat McClelland.
Our High Priest & Prophet, Jerry Minor and his lady Kami
were installed as Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron of Roscoe Chapter Order of the Eastern
Star.
At the Tebala meeting in November we recognized the veterans who have served in all
branches of the armed forces of the United States . They were each presented with a certificate recognizing their contribution and service to our country.
We are happy to report that due to the hard work by Loy Rice and his committee the
Karnival of Karnage had a successful month at Boone County Fair Grounds.
Reminder that at the Tebala Shrine meeting on December 16th we will be electing the new
officers for 2016. You must have a paid up dues card in order to attend.
The Silver Fizz is on December 6 and the Children’s Christmas Party is on December 20.

Be Burn Aware: Actor Joe Minoso of NBC’s hit show Chicago Fire joins
Shriners Hospitals for Children to keep children safe during the holidays
REALLY
Home fires and deaths increase significantly during the holiday months with
more cooking, decorations and open flames. * The biggest fire risk of all
could be your Christmas tree. That is why Shriners Hospitals for Children®
is joining forces with actor Joe Minoso of NBC’s popular television show
Chicago Fire, to keep families safe from fires and burn injuries this holiday
season, despite the increased seasonal hazards.
Shriners Hospitals for Children provides specialized care to children with
burns, orthopaedic conditions, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate
regardless of the families’ ability to pay. In an effort to educate families
about the increased risks of fires and burns during the holidays, Shriners
Hospitals has created a new series of Be Burn Aware Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and community outreach events with Joe Minoso.
Now is the time to educate your viewers on what they can do to reduce the
risk of house fires and burn injuries this holiday season. The PSA series
reminds families to take extra precautions with seasonal activities such as
cooking, lighting candles and placement of holiday décor. One PSA features dramatic footage of a dry Christmas tree igniting in just seven seconds
and demonstrates how watering a tree daily can substantially reduce the
risk of fire and serious injury.

LOVES PARK SHRINE CLUB NEWS…(and random thoughts)
DECEMBER…We made it
through another year. I’m going to
add a few FIRSTS previously omitted. The Club had its first meeting
at a County Forest Preserve. The
mosquitoes weren’t too bad. Another first occurred at the Harvard
Milk Days Parade. The warning
gate at the Rail Road Crossing suddenly descended downward between the Blazer and the Carousel.
Fortunately the METRA was two
tracks over and proceeded by without incident. Speaking of railroads,
the October meeting found the rails
well- greased, all officers were REELECTED for 2016.
Since this column will be submitted
before our Annual Meeting & Ladies Nite Out; I submit that a good
time was had by all. This is our
final meeting of the year. We will
be dark until April, 2016. We have
some repairs to address on the parade unit. Hope you can help on a
work party. More on this later.
You can still mail your dues
($10.15) to the address at the end of
the column.
My
Lady Delores and I spent some
time in Texas in October and I
brought some TEXAS lore back for
your enlightenment.
Predecessor to Texas Traffic
Jams
October 6, 1899. Terrell. The son
of Hetty Green, the eccentric heiress known as the “witch of wall
street,” Ned Green is flamboyant
and filthy rich.
The large, one-legged railroad tycoon dabbles in banks land and politics. Rumored to carry a pocketful
of diamonds, Green loves publicity.
He buys the first automobile west
of the Mississippi and announces
plans to drive 30 miles from Terrell
to Dallas. It’s the first car trip in
Texas.
Green finishes the journey in about
5 hours. When driven off the road
by a farm wagon, he makes history
again—the first car accident in
Texas.
Ned Green and his driving machine
made history 116 years ago this
month
in Texas history.
I brought some APHORISMS back
from Texas also.
“Aphorism - a short, pointed sentence that expresses a wise or clever observation or a general truth.”
1. The nicest thing about the future
is that it always starts tomorrow.
2. Money will buy a fine dog but
only kindness will make him wag
his tail.
3. If you don’t have a sense of humor you probably don’t have any
sense at all.
4. Seat belts are not as confining as
wheelchairs.
5. A good time to keep your mouth
shut is when you’re in deep water.
6. How come it takes so little time
for a child who is afraid of the dark
to become a teenager who wants to
stay out all night.
7. Business conventions are important because they demonstrate
how many people a company can
operate without.
8. Why is it that at class reunions
you feel younger than everyone
else looks?
9. Stroke a cat and you will have a
permanent job.
10. No one has more driving ambition than the teenage boy who
wants to buy a car.
Morning News.
SANTA’S REINDEER
“Come Dasher, Dancer, Prancer,

Donner, and Blitzen.” Santa said.
“My reindeer number eight. We
need to go. We can’t be late! It’s
dark this Christmas Eve night. We
need someone to carry a light. Rudolph, of course you’ll be fine.
Now my reindeer number nine.”

Just How Good Do I Have To Be?
UNWRAP ME FIRST!
OLD AGE IS GRAND
An elderly gentleman had serious
hearing problems for a number of
years. He went to the doctor and the
doctor was able to have him fitted for
a set of hearing aids that allowed the
gentleman to hear 100%.
The elderly gentleman went back to
the doctor a month later and the doctor
said. “Your hearing is perfect. Your
family must be really pleased that you
can hear again.”
The gentleman replied, “Oh, I haven’t
told my family yet. I just sit around
and listen to the conversations. I’ve
changed my will three times!”
Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were setting on a bench
under a tree when one turns to the oth“What the New Year brings to you

THE CANDY BAR
Little Johnny was sitting on a park
bench munching on one candy bar after another.
After the 6th one a man on the bench
across from said, “Son, you know eating all that candy isn’t good for you.
It will give you acne, rot your teeth,
make you fat.”
Little Johnny replied, “My grandfather
lived to be 107 years old.”
The man asked, “Did your grandfather
eat 6 candy bars at a time?”
Little Johnny answered, “No, he minded his own business!”

Tebala SporTSman’S Club
There has been a lot of interest in the nobility recently about what we can do as a fraternity
to promote activities that go beyond the parades, or the outings, or the monthly meetings
that are worthy of our attention, yet not necessarily all that inclusive due to the types of limitations that we all face. Not everyone can climb into a jet, or put on the makeup and walk
a mile long parade, or handle a chopper/dresser because, let’s face it, while we still have our
good looks and charm, some things are no longer as easy to do as they once were. What
can one do to participate and be active without having to spend a week recovering after
each event? Why not join a sportsman’s club?
What is a sportsman’s club? A sportsman’s club is a club that has at its core an interest in
those activities that can be described as “sporting”. These activities can include things like:
Attending professional sporting events such as
Motor sports (drag racing, NASCAR, AMA)
Team sports (NFL, MLB, NHL, or local equiv’s)
Individual sports (golf, tennis, boxing)
Holding local inter- or intra club competitions
Bowling
Trap/skeet/target shooting
Archery
Sponsoring regional or local competitions
Fishing
Hunting field trials
Golf
Indoor or chair sports
Poker
Table tennis
Video Gaming
The above lists are not all inclusive, they are a starting point. We don’t need to limit attendance at these activities to the Nobility, we can open it to ladies and family of we want to. If
you are interested in being a part of this, we need your help. To establish a new club we
need people to sign up, take a leadership positions, and help us vote/pass our by-laws so
that we can take it to the board for approval.
Interested? Please plan on meeting in the oasis before our next meeting on 12/16/2015 and
if we can get a quorum we will take our business plan and budget to the Divan for approval.
See you there sports fans!
