IJRA 2010-2011 Rodeo Season

guaranteed to go home with a
smile as she won all four of the
events that she entered that day.
Anna Deitrich’s first place catch
in the Break-away Roping, as
well as placing in the Barrel
Racing, Pole Bending and
Goat Tying quickly added up
the points needed for the AllAround title.
W
hat a great turn out for the second
rodeo of the new IJRA season! A
big THANK YOU! to the Banta
and Hunter families for putting on such a
successful rodeo. And what would any rodeo
be without tradition? Once again, the rodeo
grounds were brought to life as the sun began
to rise and the roosters began to crow! Jeff
Banta brought back the ever popular chicken
scramble and really out did himself when he
found rooster trophies to top off the already
popular cash prize!
The Cinch Division chili dinner fundraiser
was a big hit. Not only did that warm chili
(and peanut butter sandwiches) hit the spot
on Saturday night, but the Cinch Junior High
Division kids were able to add a little more
money to their travel fund for their trip to
Gallup, NM. IJRA would like to congratulate
the 2010-2011 Indiana Cinch Rodeo Team.
These members will all receive one shirt and
one pair of jeans.

Veedersburg, IN Rodeo Contestants
Team. Strand and Jessie will receive $100
scholarships and an additional shirt and pair
of jeans for the Academic Team, as well as
another shirt as members of the Elite Team.
Congratulations to our All-Around winners for
the Veedersburg rodeo!
The Saturday All-Around winners had
their game faces on and came to compete.
Clayton Whitten won 1st in Goat Tying and
Chute Dogging. Dalton Hartle used his 4.341
Breakaway run, as well as his win in the Step
Down Calf Roping, to seal the deal for his
All-Around medallion. Maci Zimmerman had
a great day as she won the Goat Tying and
then she and Bunny smoked the Pole Bending
pattern to leave them all standing in a 23.579.
On Sunday, the All-Around winners continued
to show what the IJRA kids are made of.
Kolton Hartle had a great
day, winning 1st in Calf
Riding, Chute Dogging
and Steer Daubing and
finishing that up with a
2nd place finish in Goat
Tying. Kolt Keller didn’t
even give the fans time to
blink before he completed
his 1.971 Chute Dogging
run. He also finished first
in the Step Down Calf
Roping and 2nd in the
Goat Tying, making his
mama proud! (Charity,
we think it’s time you
pay up in the cart wheel
department.) Zach Hunter had a great Sunday,
placing in the Chute Dogging, Calf Roping
and Break-away Roping. Greeley Eastep was
IJRA would also like to give
Emma Morris a shout out!
Emma entered the Chute
Dogging for the first time on
Saturday in Veedersburg and
came away with a second
place finish. On Sunday, Emma
became an official All-Around contender as
she finished first in the Chute Dogging and
third in the Goat Tying – two events this K-12’er hadn’t tried until this season! Way to go
Emma!

Member Spotlight
IJRA would like to congratulate our 2009-2010 Boys All-Around Champions!
Enjoy your moment in the Spotlight! You have earned it!
What did winning the IJRA All-Around mean to
you?
BT: It really meant a lot because I did what I set out
to do. Oh, and I really wanted that saddle!
TW: Winning the All-Around meant that at the end
of the year, all my hard work had paid off.
SB: It meant that I worked hard for the entire year
and achieved my goal.
What are your goals for the future - this next
year and how ever far you would like to take it. It
can be rodeo or life related or both.
BT: I always want to win. I want to set my goal to
win the all around every year. I also want to rodeo at
every level till I’m a pro.
TW: In my new age group this year, i would like to
try for Rookie of the Year & Reserve All-Around.
And, my goals for the future are to rodeo in the
PRCA and make it to the NFR.
SB: I would like to win all around again and be in
the top ten at the Cinch Jr high finals.
If someone wanted to win the All-Around, what
advice would you give them?
BT: My advice would be to work hard, never give
up and ALWAYS try your hardest.
TW: Work hard, ride your horse, and don’t give up.
SB: Work hard and stay focused
Do you have or do anything that brings you luck?
BT: I have a lucky God bless America bracelet on
the shoulder strap of my bullriding vest that I took
off my dads vest from when he still rode bulls and
broncs.
TW: (he laughed and smiled) No.
SB: Practicing hard
What is the best advice you have ever gotten?
BT: Best advice came from my dad about riding
roughstock: bow your chest, keep your chin down,
and don’t let go till your head hits the dirt.
TW: The best advice I’ve ever gotten is to be
“smooth” to be fast. (talking about calf roping and
tying-Ronnie Hyde)
SB: Take advise from everyone that tries helping
me.
Who are your role models or heroes?
BT: My Great- Grandpa Dave, and my dad.
TW: Does it have to be just one? because I have a lot! I have watched
Strand and Cord Barricklow over the last 2 years. Also, I have learned
some things watching TyDaniel Haller, Shawn Coleman, Ronnie
Hyde and Trevor Brazille.
SB: Stran Smith
What was the hardest or least favorite moment and how did you
deal with it?
BT: The hardest moment was at Edinburg at the last fall rodeo when
my pony broke a bone in her leg and we had to put her down on

Champion All-Around title for the K-1-2 boys
division. Bryce is the son of Jerrad and Amanda
Tieman and has a younger sister named Bailee,
who also competes in IJRA. The Tieman are from
Springville, IN. Seven year old Bryce competes
in Barrels, Poles, Chute dogging, Mutton Busting
and Calf Riding. Bryce is also raising some of his
own bucking bulls and placed in the Top 10 of
the yearling class at the North American Breeders
Cup this past year.
Tucker Whitten is the 20092010 All-Around Cowboy in
the 3-4-5 age division. This
12 year old cowboy competes
in Break-away Roping,
Chute Dogging, Goat Tying
and Step-Down Roping.
Tucker is the son of Chris and
Tamara Whitten and lives in
Bargersville, IN.
Strand Barricklow is the 6-7-8 All-Around
Champion for the 2009-2010 IJRA season.
Strand calls Lebanon, Indiana home and is the
son of Stormy and Rhonda Barricklow. This
14 year old cowboy is also a member of the
Indiana Cinch Rodeo Team, where he is also on
the Academic and Elite Team. Strand competes
in Tie Down Roping, Chute Dogging, Break
Away Roping and Team Roping.

Thanksgiving day. I hated it but I had to get with a new horse before
the spring rodeo and just do the best I could. Luckily I had a good one
(Reo) loaned to me and we’ve got along great!
TW: My hardest moment was at finals when I didn’t pull my slack
in the step-down roping and the calf ran through my loop after i had
dismounted. I had to get back on my horse and rope it again and get
down again. I was really frustrated but i didn’t give up.
SB: Switching team roping partners. I continued to rope and stay
hooked.
What was your best or most memorable moment this past year
on your journey to winning the All-Around?
BT: Going the whole season without getting bucked off.
TW: My 7 sec. Step -Down roping!!
SB: Setting a new personal record 11.1 in the calf roping
