Page 14 THE AURORAN, Thursday, March 19, 2015 Family Leisure Complex – and Year of Sport – gets Federal seal of approval By Brock Weir Ridgewood Farm Ridgewood Farm Spring Horseback RIDING LESSONS SIGN UP NOW! ONLY $ 165 The recently revamped Aurora Family Leisure Complex (AFLC) got the Federal seal of approval Monday afternoon hosting Bal Gosal, Minister of State for Sport, on his tour of Aurora. Accompanied by Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown, he was greeted at the AFLC by Mayor Geoff Dawe and municipal staff, before embarking on a brief tour. They then visited the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame at Aurora Town Hall before heading downstairs for a community roundtable discussion on local sports and building healthier communities. On their tour of the AFLC, Mayor Dawe said the expansion, which was officially opened at the end of last month, is just one of the many initiatives that has Aurorans buzzing about sports and recreation in this, Aurora’s Year of Sport. “There is little doubt the best way to keep our families healthy and make positive changes is to start with our youth,” said Mayor Dawe, highlighting not just the complex, but also the developing Parks and Recreation Master Plan, trails expansions, and new accessible playground equipment for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Park. “Adopting healthy lifestyles early paves the way for a lifetime of healthy choices. “The Year of Sport provides the perfect opportunity to get our residents involved, engaged and active in a variety of local sports and athletics, and a lifetime of good, healthy habits.” This was a sentiment echoed by Ms. Brown. “I know so many of you who have been actively engaged in the promotion of this,” she said of the Year of Sport. “It is going to be an exciting year. I think as we move towards wellness rather than illness, we will see greater enthusiasm in our constituency, greater enthusiasm and wellness in the people around us and greater benefits to our Town as a whole.” Reno-Depot Opens its first doors in Ontario ONE MONTH OF LESSONS Come for the horses, FUN! stay for the Call or email for details www.ridgewoodfarm.ca 905-727-8231 town of aurora pubLic NOTice NOTICE OF COMPLETE APPLICATION The Town of Aurora has received the following application under the Planning Act: APPLICATION: the owner has submitted applications for Draft Plan of Subdivision and to amend the official Plan and Zoning By-law to allow a proposed plan of subdivision on a 40.89 hectare parcel of land. the proposed Draft Plan of Subdivision includes 184 single detached dwelling lots, a block for a 10 storey residential building (estimated to yield 144 units plus small scale commercial at grade), 14.41 hectare of environmental protection lands and 5.09 hectare of parkette and open space lands. With 17 stores already open in Quebec, and another slated to open soon in Calgary, this new store boasts 76,000 square feet, one of the largest renovation warehouses in the Region, along with 24,000 products, an outdoor garden centre, and a large number of brand products. “The opening of this new RenoDepot in Aurora represents a major milestone in the expansion of our banner,” said Chantal Glenisson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Reno-Depot. “We spent half of 2014 in the revamping of our existing Reno-Depot stores and are proud to be moving on to the next step, opening new outlets and exploring new markets where we feel confident the Reno-Depot concept will be wellreceived.” In addition to offering everyday consumer items, the store features a dedicated section for the needs of property management and maintenance services. “Our store manager, Matthew Picconi, has built a strong team here, with seasoned experts to better meet the renovation needs in the Newmarket-Aurora region,” she added. “We truly believe that the Reno-Depot concept will generate a lot of interest and become a must-stop destination for all those considering renovation or construction projects.” Above: Joining in the celebration were Brian Morris, representing MPP Chris Ballard, Mary Ann Cowie, representing MP Lois Brown, RONA Vice-President, retail, Paul Sharpe, Matthew Piccioni, store manager, and Councillor John Abel.
