Salomon’s application of Amer Sports’
new compatibility for touring gear
WTR (Walk to Ride) is a first-ever industry
standard for compatibility of certain touring
boot soles and bindings. This standard is
approved by TÜV, a world-renown safety monitoring agency, ensuring an official compatibility
between specific bindings and specific ski boot
walk soles.
What’s the main benefit of WTR technology?
Which Products are Concerned?
WTR allows skiers to combine a superior level
of performance downhill skiing and an excellent
level of convenience and security when
hiking (ISO Standard 9523). It establishes a
norm for fitting rockered touring soles with
certain binding setups. It establishes a norm for

intended to be used with all alpine ski boots
compliant with ISO standard 5355 and ski
boots with the new WTR-certified soles that
have rigid contact zones in order to guarantee
provide the same level of security and skiability

Salomon’s parent company, Amer Sports, has
finalized a common agreement to license WTR
technology to the Rossignol group starting
fall 2013. WTR is currently available in certain
2012/13 Salomon and Atomic binding options.

fit for a wider range of consumers

sports, is proud to introduce the next generation of high performance boots—the Salomon X-Pro. The
X-Pro uses Salomon TwinFrame molding technology and introduces a new boot liner concept called My
CustomFit 3D. The My CustomFit 3D liner is pre-shaped on a three dimensional form around the most
critical areas of the foot, ankle and heel.
Other liners only use two flat pieces of bonded material stuck to a flat
bottom, whereas MyCustomfit 3D is built in three dimensions on a footshaped mold. This results in instant comfort, higher precision and a liner
that is fully thermoformable to accommodate foot spurs, hot spots and
foot shapes.
“The goal in developing this boot was to create an unprecedented level of
comfort in performance boots,” explains Paul-Eric Chamay, Salomon’s
Boot Project manager for X-Pro. “We have spent years sculpting the
shells to fit anatomically, but liners were still pretty simple and flat.
Salomon’s experience in footwear of all types led us to the realization that
we could change the liner game. As we developed prototypes, the results
exceeded our hopes.”
In addition to a reinvented liner, the Salomon X-Pro is built on technology designed for skiers who want
boots with an improved fit, ease of use and all day comfort without sacrificing precision and performance.

The Quest boots are the base of the quest concept. Designed to provide the same level of
downhill performance that skiers expect from their freeride boots, the Quest boot line offers a
novel Hike and Ride solution. Featuring a magnesium backbone integrated into a V-Cut lower
shell, the Quest boots offer an instant on-off transition between easy walking and locked-in
downhill power and performance.
Designed by pros but accessible for every skier, the Quest
skis put the “ride” in hike and ride. Featuring utility rocker, the
forebody of the Quest-line skis floats in powder and adapts in
variable conditions, while the cambered center of the ski and
flat tail add stability, confidence and performance on piste.
The new Salomon Quest 20 ABS Compatible pack carries
backcountry gear, skis or a snowboard and has convenient
loops for helmets. Ideal for short backcountry missions in big

Quest Motion Fit jacket and pant which enable optimal
movement for skiing and backcountry travel by adjusting the

Salomon launches its application of Amer Sports’ new
standard for compatibility of touring boot soles and bindings
The revolutionary Walk to Ride technology brings a new norm to the ski industry
Ogden, UT—January 7, 2012— Salomon, a leader in technical design and innovation
in mountain products announces its parent company, Amer Sports’, significant advance
in ski touring product technology. WTR (Walk to Ride) is a first-ever industry standard
for compatibility of certain touring boot soles and bindings. WTR compatibility is
certified by TÜV, a world-renown safety monitoring agency, ensuring an official
compatibility between specific bindings and specific ski boot walk soles.
WTR allows skiers to combine a superior level of
performance downhill skiing and an excellent level of
convenience and security when hiking (ISO
Standard 9523). It establishes a norm for fitting
rockered touring soles with certain binding setups.
“Salomon has led the industry in quality binding innovation since day one, so it’s no
wonder we are bringing WTR to our skiers,” says Erik Anderson, director of sales for
Salomon Winter Sports Equipment. “We are hiking more to find great snow, but not
giving up our alpine setups. So, with rockered soles that are so good to walk in, we also
need to be sure we are secure in our bindings. This new standard is about that exact
connection between boots and bindings as hiking and skiing continue to evolve around
each other.”
WTR-certified bindings are intended to be used with all alpine ski boots compliant with
ISO standard 5355 and ski boots with the new WTR-certified soles that have rigid
contact zones in order to guarantee provide the same level of security and skiability as
traditional alpine set-ups.
Salomon’s parent company, Amer Sports, has finalized a common agreement to license
WTR technology to the Rossignol group starting in fall 2013. And WTR is currently
available in certain 2012/13 Salomon and Atomic binding options.

Improved downhill performance is only one aspect of the STH2 WTR. This binding also features
WTR (Walk-to-Ride) sole compatibility, a new technology built into some of Salomon’s new
boots and bindings—approved by the TÜV (a globally recognized testing, inspection and
certification organization). The combination of WTR soles and STH2 WTR bindings enables

Salomon’s new X-Max goggle features largest

Touch-free lens change system and new lens options give skiers more freedom
Ogden, UT—December 28, 2012—Salomon, a leader in technical design and innovation in
mountain sports, is proud to introduce the Salomon X-MAX Goggle. Combining the largest field
of vision on the market with quality fit and
convenience, the X-Max goggle delivers top
performance for the most demanding skiers.
Capitalizing on the reduced frame technology of
Salomon’s first goggle, the X-Tend, the X-Max goggle
further increases the vertical and horizontal fields,
offering skiers and riders a field of vision that is 30%
greater than most other goggles.
Salomon’s Custom Frame technology offers a
precise, comfortable fit. The X-Max also provides
skiers and riders with a patented touch-free lens changing system known as Salomon Easy
Change. This system protects the lens by eliminating the need to touch it. Simply open the
sliders on the sides of the lens, grab the front clips with two fingers (no need to touch the lens),
unclip the lens and insert your new lens.
Pairing perfectly with the Easy Change system is the addition of a variety of new lenses to the
X-Max lens fleet including: A photo-chromatic lens that changes with varying light conditions, a
polarized lens that blocks glare in the brightest light as well as a solid mix of high quality,
durable BNL/Zeiss lenses.

Ogden, UT—December 28, 2012—Salomon, a leader in technical design and innovation in
mountain sports, is proud to introduce the Hacker helmet.
Featuring Salomon’s innovative Twinshell technology, the
Hacker offers a superior level of performance, fit and style.
Twinshell construction is built on a durable, injected base
with a lightweight in-mold upper shell. Inside the in-mold is
a revolutionary internal venting system called Salomon
TwinShell Ventilation. TwinShell Ventilation is fed by only a few
small vents at the front of the helmet but still distributes airflow
in all directions. In addition, at only 330 grams, the Hacker is
one of the lightest helmets on the market.
“Our approach to product development has always been to push for innovation,” said Elina
Vorger, Salomon’s Product Line Manager for Helmets and Protectives. “So, when the Twinshell
concept became possible, we saw the opportunity to create a bridge between amazing
technology and style in the helmet market.”

Just like it delivers fit, the Hacker also delivers style. A comfortable, seamless, one piece liner
can be removed for use with a beanie. Designed for goggle integration, the Hacker allows users
to wear their goggle strap outside the helmet and have a perfect fit or inside the helmet by
utilizing the integrated strap channel.
ATHLETE BIOS
Most professional skiers will tell you that
they’ve been skiing their entire life. Bobby
Brown will tell you that he learned to ski
at age 11 and only seven years later was
competing at the X Games. Since then,
Bobby has won numerous contests and
starred in several major ski films. He fast
became one of the most popular guys in
the sport, and certainly one of the busiest.
In 2010, he won double gold at X Games in
slopestyle and big air, becoming the first
skier in X Games history to win two events.
The following year, Bobby won the 2010/11
Dew Cup championship, and in 2012 he won
two more X Games gold, in big air (Aspen)
and slopestyle (EuroX).
Mike Douglas, aka the Godfather of
freeskiing, has impacted the sport like
nobody else. Douglas grew up skiing moguls
and was a member of the New Canadian Air
Force. He is credited with helping to create
the first ever twin tip ski, which eventually
became the Salomon 1080. Today you’ll find
Mike creating the massively popular web
series Salomon Freeski TV with his company
Switchback Entertainment. The industry is
forever indebted to Mike Douglas and all that
he’s done for us.
Andreas Fransson is one of today’s most
prominent extreme skiers, taking the sport of
ski mountaineering to the next level. With a
solo first descent of the South Face of Denali
in spring 2011, Andreas has burst onto the
scene in a major way. His harrowing descents
from Chamonix to Patagonia to Norway and
all across Europe have shown that his limits
lie beyond the norm, and his capabilities in
the mountains are nearly unrivaled. Andreas
is a well spoken, thoughtful and articulate
person who takes calculated risks and will
surely pioneer new terrain across the world
for many years to come.
Kim Havell is one of the world’s premier
female ski mountaineers. Her career
began as a ski coach in the Telluride valley
before transitioning to climbing and ski
mountaineering in the San Juan Mountains.
Before leaving Telluride, Kim went on to
claim first female descents on several
classic lines. She is one of only a handful of
females to have major ski descents on all
seven continents, including first descents
on four of them. Kim has been featured in
several ski films over the years, and when
not skiing, keeps herself busy by writing for
Outside Magazine, Powder, ESPN, National
Geographic and more.
Greg Hill is an internationally renowned ski
mountaineer from Canada, best known for
hiking and skiing 2 million vertical feet in
one year. His tick list includes hundreds of
first descents around the world and in his
home mountains near Revelstoke, British
Columbia. Greg brings freeride skiing to
big mountains in remote locations and will
continue to push the envelope and inspire
backcountry enthusiasts for many years to
come.
Leo Ahrens hails from Salt Lake City, UT
and along with his Dubsatch Collective crew,
have been shredding Alta since they were
old enough to stand. At the ripe age of 19,
Leo has accomplished more than most could
ever dream of as a professional skier. He
has filmed with Warren Miller, Sweetgrass,
Matchstick Productions and Salomon Freeski
TV. But Leo does not solely excel in front of
the camera. He’s the man behind the lens in
many of the Dubsatch Collective’s films and
webisodes and has more big plans as a film
director in the future. When not skiing, Leo
is usually outside taking photos or capturing
video for one of the many projects brewing
in his head.
