Today’s human services arena is a dynamic and challenging environment where effective
leadership demands a broad array of skills. Successful leaders need a deep understanding
of the forces shaping our world, a solid knowledge of management principles and strategies,
the capacity to operate creatively, and the ability to bring together diverse groups in order to
transform communities. They must be prepared to shape a compelling vision for change,
to advocate persuasively, to plan strategically, and to demonstrate results.
Complete Your Master’s Degree in 16 Months
This people-focused program is designed to develop leaders who
can solve human problems and build communities. Through a focus
on social analysis, critical and creative thinking, and leadership
development, students gain a solid foundation to lead their communities
forward as:
• directors and founders of community-based organizations or
human services agencies;
• managers, supervisors, or administrators in government
agencies, the private sector, and volunteer
organizational settings; or
• practitioners in direct service delivery, consultant firms,
or organizational administration.
Program Highlights
• Weekend classes one or two weekends per month (varies per campus)
• Degree completion in 16 months (full-time enrollment, nine credits
per term)
• Acceptance of up to six graduate transfer credits with grade B or higher
and that relate to the curriculum
• Supportive learning environment with seminar-style classes
• Web-enhanced classrooms for interacting with instructors and students
between classes

contributions. Learning through dialogue with your peers, you will integrate
new knowledge that can be quickly useful in your work.
SHS employs a full-time faculty responsible for teaching, service,
and scholarship. The practice-oriented curriculum also includes
contributions from part-time faculty members who are directly involved
in agency and community work. The result is a faculty with the flexibility,
resources, and expertise to address academics as well as new developments
in human services practice and delivery.

Admission Requirements
Each successful applicant must have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university,
five years of paid or volunteer experience in human services, a desire to strengthen his/her leadership ability to
better serve their community or organization, and demonstrated ability to succeed academically.
Classes begin in September, January, and May.
