NO SCHOOL – MONDAY, MAY 28th – MEMORIAL DAY!
School Board Places Levy on the Ballot
The Tipp City Board of Education approved a five year, 7.95 mills Emergency tax levy to be placed on the ballot
at the August 7, 2012 special election. The State has cut $1.3 million out of Tipp City School’s funding for this
past school year, and the State will be cutting more in the upcoming school year. Tipp City Schools’ will have a
decrease of $2,934,892 in state funding as compared to FY2011, and adding the additional loss of $240,000 from
EdJobs and another State reduction of $312,500 in State aid for FY2013 means Tipp City Schools will be working
with $3,487,392 less dollars than in FY2011. The need to balance the budget this year and future years requires
the District to make significant budget cuts and ask the community for more funding. The Board of Education is
giving Tipp City / Monroe Township residents an opportunity to decide if they want the District to make
additional cuts in staffing and programs or keep the level of staffing that we need to work towards our Excellent
rating. The District has had Excellent ratings the last eight years out of ten and 6 years in a row. This is the first
time in three years that the Board has asked the Tipp City School voters for new money. For a list of the cuts and
impacts click here: http://www.tippcityschools.com/Page/2951

Weeding and Reseeding the Prairie
Terry Lavy, a conservationist affiliated with
Miami County Pheasants Forever, taught a
group of high school students about invasive
species in Ohio. The high school group
(comprised of Angler’s Club members and
Earth Systems Students) then participated in
a removal effort of the invasive species found
in the Environmental Study Area. The group
removed the following invasives: Honey
Suckle, Mares Tail, Canada Thistle, and
Garlic Mustard. Mr. Lavy also reseeded the
small prairie with a wildflower/prairie grass
mix that will not grow above 40 inches tall.
The District is thankful for Mr. Lavy’s
willingness to donate the time and resources
needed to manage a wonderful outdoor
educational center for our students.

STEM Club Tour DARE Electronics
Members of the Tippecanoe Class of 2016 STEM Club recently toured
the facilities of long-time local company, DARE Electronics, on Co.Rd.
25A. Company president, Karen Beagle, informed them about the
specialized electronic components manufactured there. Most of the parts
are used in military aircrafts, which requires a high degree of quality
control, and parts must often be adapted to extreme conditions of
vibration, shock, and temperature. Some older crafts require duplication
of existing replacement parts, originally manufactured by companies’ no
longer in business. Students learned about electrical engineering,
material science, chemistry, and technical drafting.
Students taking part in the tour are pictured (L to R): Brandon Bischoff,
Hannah Lowe,
Allison Chitwood, Samantha Rowland, Anna Klepinger, Joey Hodge,
Adam Buynak.
These students are part of a group interested in science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics who meet outside of school about once a
month for STEM related field trips.
L.T. Math Games
L.T. Ball 5th
graders got
mathematically
creative. They
invented their
own math games
to share with
other students.
The fifth grade
students created
the games to help
reinforce math
skills they
learned this year.
L.T. Ball – Wax Museum
L.T. Ball’s Fifth Graders put together their Annual Wax Museum! Students had to read about a famous person
then dress like them. It is part of the state standards for literary text and research writing. For more downloadable
photos click here: http://tippcityschools.smugmug.com/Other/WAX-MUSEUM-5thgraders/23045391_7c3zSQ#!i=1854157446&k=KLCtbzb
L.T. Ball Students Collects Big for Tab-A-Pull-Ooza
Last Saturday, May 19th,
64 participants from the
Miami Valley community
"pulled together" for the
Dayton Ronald McDonald
House. They filled a
commercial sized dumpster
with over 6,000 pounds of
pull tabs, raising $4,000 to
help the House continue its
mission of providing a
home-away-from-home to
families of hospitalized
children. Tammy Green,
from L.T. Ball, worked with the students all year long-and they managed to collect 212 pounds tabs!
Next Year Will Be Awesome…
3rd graders from
Broadway and Nevin
Coppock Elementary
toured L.T. Ball
Intermediate school to
get the lay of the land.
Mrs. Patterson and Mrs.
Conley welcomed the
students and oriented
them for next year. For

audience through the history
of Tipp City! It was a great
musical way to learn about
Tipp City!

Why My Teacher Is An A+ Teacher!
Mrs. Adkins third grade class was given a pizza party from Alverto Orthodontics Office
thanks to Emma Marlowe! Students from all schools in Miami County could enter the
contest by writing an essay about their teacher. Emma Marlow wrote an essay, and her
essay was chosen first place over all the entries. The class was thankful for the pizza party.
Nevin Coppock Art Show
Mrs. Klein’s art classes exhibited their
artwork to a packed house on Tuesday
evening. Critics gave grades Kindergarten
through 3rd rave reviews about their work!
Thank You For Volunteering!
Nevin Coppock and Broadway Elementary held their annual volunteer breakfast and luncheon, thanking
over 200 volunteers for their hard work throughout the year. The schools appreciate all of your hard
