“Art...and All That azz” Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley Twelfth Annual Garden Party June 1, 2013 Highlights from the Permanent Collection: Celebration of the Wolf Family Donations Honoring Board of Trustees Member and friend Mary Weidlein “Art... and All That 12th Annual Garden Party Saturday, June 1, 2013 Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Ligonier Valley azz” T he SAMA staff and Auxiliary have once again arranged for an evening of good food, good friends and good times in the Ligonier Valley. It is the annual Garden Party at the Ligonier Valley Museum and this year it is all jazzed up. The Garden Party theme “Art . . . and All That Jazz” adds a special touch to this very special event. The Garden Party spotlights the beauty of our gardens and the Museum’s idyllic location here in historic Ligonier. This event at the Ligonier Valley Museum is a summer highlight for the Museum and this community. Over the years, the Garden Party has grown to become a signature fund-raising program for the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art. Funds raised from the Garden Party help the Museum offer a robust schedule of fine art exhibitions and high quality cultural programs. SAMA’s award-winning arts education programs, summer art camps and the Artists of the 21st Century exhibition benefit from the Garden Party. Proceeds from the Garden Party help with the cost of day-to-day museum operations. In short, the Garden Party’s success is critical to Museum operations and SAMA programs. This very special summer program is recreated each year through the efforts, commitment and hard work of an engaged auxiliary, a dedicated Museum staff, and other volunteers who work tirelessly to make this a wonderful evening for everyone in attendance. Site Coordinator, Sommer Toffle, and event chairs, Joyce Collins and Peggy Shepler, have organized a fabulous evening for us. The evening is electric and the rhythm, syncopation and swing that are synonymous with jazz will add even more “juice” to the program. We also recognize the efforts, support and commitment of a very special person at this year’s Garden Party - Mary Weidlein. Mary has been an active Auxiliary member, an involved Museum Trustee and a strong arts advocate. She has served the Auxiliary, worked on behalf of the Ligonier Valley Museum and supported SAMA in an exemplary manner. It is fitting that we honor a most deserving lady, Mary Weidlein, at this year’s Garden Party. This year’s Garden Party offers a jazz experience but it is anchored still by the silent auction and gallery exhibition. With respect to the planned exhibition, we offer Highlights from the Permanent Collection: Celebration of the Wolf Family Donations for our Garden Party guests to enjoy. The Wolf family has been a respected member of the SAMA family for many years and has been a significant and consistent contributor to the Museum’s stature as one of the state’s best regional art museums. The Wolf family has endowed this Museum with an incredible array of work that we are proud to display for our Ligonier Valley constituents to study, admire and remember. The support and generosity the Wolf family has extended to SAMA has enriched the lives of so many living in our region and has helped establish a cultural legacy for generations to come The 2013 Garden Party is a fun celebration and it sets the stage for us to get together again next year here at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art’s Ligonier Valley Museum. The funds raised during this evening also contribute to maintenance and daily operation support for our picturesque Museum amidst the Ligonier countryside. Tonight we also are honoring and offering a special thank you to a very dear member of our Auxiliary, SAMA Trustee and friend Mary Weidlein. Mary’s support and dedication to the Museum is immeasurable and very much appreciated. Her wisdom and guidance is invaluable, and the energy that she brings to the Museum is infectious. This benefit would not be possible without the perseverance and generosity of many hardworking individuals. It was a delight to work with our Garden Party Co-Chairs, Peggy Shepler and Joyce Collins; their generosity and devotion is incomparable. Augmenting their efforts were the hardworking members of our Steering Committee, whose knowledge, dedication and tireless efforts contributed significantly to the success of this evening’s event. A special thanks to Graphic Designer Bonnie Hoffman and Decorating Chair Helen Thorne and her committee for their expertise. I also would like to thank the officers of our Ligonier Valley Museum Auxiliary; President, Barbara Kravits; Vice President, Gretchen Griffith; Secretary, Susan Kiren; Corresponding Secretary, Joyce Collins; and Treasurer, Bonnie Hoffman, who have done an incredible job leading our Auxiliary in supporting and promoting our Museum. I would like to thank the other members of our Museum Auxiliary for their continued support and devotion. Thank you to the SAMA staff and Board of Trustees for their assistance and support. We are grateful to our sponsors, donors, Ernie Vallozzi and his staff, floral contributors, vendors, and everyone else who has donated their time, services and talents to make this fundraiser a success. My gratitude is extended to the Trustees of the Emma Clyde Hodge Memorial Fund for their exhibition support. Thank you for supporting the Museum and enabling us to exhibit American artwork and provide programming to the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania and all of our visitors. Enjoy and have a wonderful evening.
