TCG V. Pres. Bray, 20-29
On Friday 19 September Temple
Carrig played Presentation
College, Bray in their first ever
rugby match in Greystones Rugby
Club. It was a friendly match to
practise what they had been
learning at training.
The final score was 29-20 to Pres - a
very close match! "There will be a
rivalry for years!", commented the
coach of the opposition, after he
witnessed TCG's debut match.
Overall, the boys should be very
proud of their efforts.
Temple Carrig Hike
By D. McCormack, L. McGowan,
T. O'Nuallain, Z. Neary Usher
Last Thursday, 18 September,
everyone in Temple Carrig went
on a hike to Lough Dan as a
celebration of our in rest weeks in
school.
After just one lesson in the
morning, we set off on the bus.
We all got off the bus in a good
mood. The start of the hike was
on paths but then we went
through a marsh where lots of
people slipped. We then crossed
a river that some people swam in.
We had a break and got hotdogs
before we started off again. The
second part was much more
difficult in the heat and we were
all thirsty when we got back onto
the buses.
Interview with Mia Halili and Zoe Neary Usher on what it's like being a
student in TCG.
By G. Breslin, C. Coffey, L.
Dempsey, A. Bradshaw
Zoe, what's it like going to school
in prefabs?
Well, I don't know what it's like
going to a secondary school
that's not in prefabs, but I think
it's pretty fun.
Mia, do you wish there were more
years groups ahead of you?
Yes, sometimes I do wish there
were more year groups so that I
would have the full school
experience but I think it's kind of
cool being the oldest and it
means we get to set examples
and have more say in what's
going on in the school.
Zoe, what are your thoughts on
the uniform?
At the moment, everything's too
big and the jumpers are really
itchy, but I like the P.E. uniform.
Zoe, I see that you are using
books instead of an iPad. What
do you like about using books?
I think they're more interesting
but they're very heavy, which
sometimes makes me want an
iPad, but it's much better now
we have the lockers.
Mia, what's your favourite thing
about going to TCG?
I think my favourite thing is the
sports, I like playing hockey and
basketball and also drama, that's
really fun. All the teachers are
really nice and we have really cool
subjects and I'm with all my friends
which is a bonus.
Interview with Dr. Fitzroy about teaching in Temple Carrig
By R. Sutton, A. Wade, J. Smartt, R. Shepherd-O'Connell, S. Stack, I. Radford-Dodd
What is your favourite subject to
teach?
I like them all, but I would probably
say Maths.
What do you like about Home
Economics?
I like how practical it is; the fact
that you're not just sitting there
taking down theory but you get to
do things.
I like teaching both but I like
teaching sports because you get to
see your students in a different
way. If a student does excel in the
classroom, on the sports field they
may be an excellent sports person
and enjoy connecting with them
that way. Also, I think it's good that
they see that I'm not just a teacher
who stands at the front of the room
giving out to them!
Do you like to teach Horticulture?
I love it! We get to go outside and
have a bit of fun. I'm looking
forward to seeing the results of
what we're working on now in the
Spring.
What school did you last teach in?
I taught in Blackrock College.
Did me you like that school more
than Temple Carrig?
No, this is the best school ever!
Do you like iPads and do you think
they are a good idea?
I do like the idea of iPads and I
think they will offer so much more
than just replacing textbooks.
How long did it take you to get
used to your iPad?
I will be getting used to it for quite
a while! I think it will keep
surprising us, all that we can do on
them. But I do get worried
sometimes when people just take
a picture of their homework on the
board instead of writing it down!
Did you play hockey in school?
Yes, I did, for my sins! I played
sweeper and loved it!
Dr. Fitzroy and Ms. Gibson,
August 2014
Do you like to teach academic
subjects or sports more?
Powers-urvey
By M. Halili, A. Dorcey-Downes, N. Dircks, J. Maguire
We conducted a survey to find out
what Powerscourt thinks about
their new school.
So far, Powerscourt have tried the
following optional subjects: Home
Economics, Business and Creative
Writing and Drama. Home Ec.
seems to be the most popular of
these with 71% saying it was their
favourite. Business came a close
second with 65%.
Most students are satisfied with
the uniform. 58% said it was either
"nice" or "ok". The lockers also
seem to be fairly popular with
58% saying they were ok and 29%
saying they were awesome!
94% of students in Powerscourt
think that the amount of
homework they get is fair so
maybe the teachers are being far
too nice!
