MEDAL MADNESS
–
The Fiesta medal evolved over a period
of time starting with the military design
of the Texas Cavaliers’ uniforms. The
medals were for Cavalier members
only, however, in 1946 the Cavaliers
introduced “king’s coins” to give away
during Fiesta. The birth of the medals
is really credited when holes were
punched into the royal giveaway coins
of King Antonio XLIX Charles Orsinger
in 1971. Finally in 1984, Lt. Col. Leon
Childers was inspired by the medals he
saw while in Germany and eventually
founded a company that manufactures
Fiesta medals. The medal designs are
quite competitive today, and it’s always
fun to see their unique personalities.
