Yom Teruah, sometimes called
the “Feast of Trumpets,” is a joyful moed.
A moed is a holy day that
Hashem commands us to observe.
On this day, we shout unto Adonai and blow
trumpets and horns, like the shofar.
A shofar is usually made from a ram’s horn.
In Hebrew, we say “mo-AID”
and “show-FAR.”

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Card stock or cover stock
Scissors
Tissue paper, torn into small pieces
Glue or tape
Hole punch (optional)
String or twine (optional)
For the parent/educator:
1. Print the template (pg. 4) on the card or cover stock; print one for
each child.
2. Carefully cut out the inside of the shofar (where it’s marked in
red), leaving the border.
For the children:
3. Lay the tissue paper pieces across the empty middle space, and
glue or tape the pieces down onto the shofar border. Don’t layer
the tissue paper too much (you don’t want to block the sun),
and use lots of colors!
4. Use the hole punch to make a hole at the top of the shofar (see
the green x), then hang it in the window using twine or string.
Or, just tape the shofar directly to the window, and watch the sun
shine through!

Bingo counters (pg 12)
Bingo cards (pgs 13-16)
Scissors or paper cutter
Small opaque box or bag
Buttons, coins, or similar small objects
For the parent/educator:
1. Print the bingo cards on the card or cover stock; cut around the
outside border.
2. Print two copies of the bingo counters, and cut out the individual
squares using the scissors or paper cutter.
3. Place the counters in the box or bag, and shake to mix up.
Bingo Rules:
4. Give each player a bingo card and a handful of the buttons/coins.
5. Pick a bingo counter from the box/bag without looking, and call
out the picture. If the player has the picture on his/her card, they
should cover it with a button/coin. Repeat this step until someone
wins.
6. The first player to reach four in a row in any direction and shout
“BINGO!” wins!
