Butterfly Release
From the Manager:
So vacation has come and gone and I am happy to have the Forced Family Memories to
cherish. Our entire family enjoyed Orange Beach, Alabama. The beaches were
abundant with white sand, and it was really beautiful with the ocean right out our
balcony door. We spent four days there and the weather was hot but the sun shined
every day. I do not know what is so tranquil about oceans, but you could not help but
stare out at the horizon and hope to see either a large boat or that “big” fish to
entertain you. Hunter and I, when riding our Jet Ski machines, saw lots of jellyfish and
even five or six dolphins right in front of us.

After four days there we said goodbye to our beach getaway and went to explore New Orleans, Louisiana. What a
shell shocker it was from the laid-back beach atmosphere to the downtown area of a big city. When people ask me to
give them my impressions on what New Orleans was like, I tell them that it is like a dirty Chicago. There are many
homeless people that are on the streets day and night. The first night we went to the French Quarter part of town and
it was very busy with the brick roads and close buildings. There were musicians that played on the street for money
and some of them were really good. You would stop just to tap your foot or enjoy the Cajun music for a while. I
laugh with people and tell them that, when the sun goes down, the streets of New Orleans come alive, especially
Bourbon Street. We are so glad that we could experience new and different cultures, but we are very content living in
little ole Eldridge, Iowa, and enjoying the Iowa lifestyle that we are accustomed to.
Please help us welcome our
newest residents to

It is important to regularly monitor your vital signs and weight.
Maintaining good health is a goal for all of us. Knowing what your normal
vital signs are can help identify when something is irregular. Our bodies
compensate when fighting illness, and an abnormal vital sign could be the
first clue that something is wrong. Many people also use vital signs to
monitor chronic diseases, such as hypertension (high blood pressure).
Tracking your blood pressure will ensure that your medication and lifestyle
changes (diet and exercise) are effective in keeping your blood pressure
within a safe zone. Monitoring weight is important for everyone. Being
over or under weight could lead to health problems. Keeping a close eye
on our weight can catch when we begin to gain or lose so we can take
necessary steps to correct it before it becomes a problem.
So check your calendar and come see Melissa and Jess at the next

“Spotlight on Seniors” presents: Nadine Golinghorst
Nadine ‘Meewes’ Golinghorst moved into Grand Haven October of 2014. She and
her husband, Ralph, were married in 1951 and farmed by Maysville. Nadine
helped on the farm while raising their two boys and two girls. After Ralph passed
away 22 years ago, Nadine moved to Long Grove.
Nadine volunteered at the Genesis East Gift Shop for years putting in 5200 hours. She made porcelain dolls from
scratch for a hobby and she enjoyed refinishing furniture. Nadine also loved to cook & canned everything!

Nadine was an only child, but has grown her family to 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is pictured by
her grandson, Dylon’s, new ribbons from the Iowa State Fair. Nadine is very proud of all of her grandchildren!
This year alone, Nadine has six of them attending college!
Friends describe Nadine as being very comfortable and an easy-going person to be around. What she likes best about
Grand Haven is the social life and all of the entertainment.
