GRAND HAVEN SCHOOLS FOUNDATION HIRES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Board of Directors of the Grand Haven Schools Foundation announced that Anne
McLaughlin has been named its first executive director. McLaughlin will lead the organization
in its mission to support access to quality preschool education.
“We’re delighted that Anne has agreed to join our organization,” said Foundation President
Leslie Cassis-Withun. “Her extensive management experience, demonstrated leadership, and
passion for education will help the Foundation to further its mission.”
McLaughlin has more than 15 years of nonprofit volunteer experience, including work with a
large California-based education foundation. Prior to that, she was executive vice president of a
national retail chain, worked as a corporate banker and manager, and practiced as a Certified
Public Accountant.
While president of the Manhattan Beach (CA) Education Foundation, McLaughlin hired and
worked closely with that organization’s first executive director. “The experience gave me
valuable insight into this role and its relationship to the board, schools, and community,” she
said.
McLaughlin will manage an organization that has experienced significant growth over the past
eight years. A capital campaign launched in 2006 resulted in a permanent endowment at the
Grand Haven Area Community Foundation of more than $1 million, the income from which
provides preschool scholarships and programming for children of low-income families in the
Tri-Cities. In 2008, the Foundation launched the Grand Haven High School Hall of Fame, a
biennial program that inducts outstanding GHHS alumni and individuals who have served the
Grand Haven Area Public Schools district. It is a way to honor the past and inspire the future
and to raise awareness about the Foundation’s mission. The 2014 GHHS Hall of Fame is slated
for November 7 and 8.
McLaughlin and her husband Larry, a Grand Haven native, moved from southern California to
Spring Lake in 2007. Their daughter, Elizabeth, is a senior at the University of Michigan.
