TRASH REDUCTION & RECYCLING COMES TO FORT MYERS BEACH!
Spd Solutions is a key element in the effort to create a unique,
unified, global approach to the management of municipal and
industrial waste.
Spd Solutions has over 30 years of proven experience in the effective
handling of waste for a variety of end users such as, Convenient
grocery stores, restaurants, casinos, hospitals, school districts,
hotels and motels, nursing homes and assisted living facilities; any
facility that has high volume trash issues and multiple dumpsters
on site.
Spd solutions will continue to design customized, innovative
engineering solutions to meet the specific waste disposal problems
of each application. Thereby facilitating the collection of materials
that can be recycled and the processing of other waste items present
in the waste stream.

Pirate Festival
Nov. 22 – Dec. 1
American Sandsculpting Championships
Saturday, December 7
Christmas Boat Parade
At one point in time there was a one-dimentional solution to the
problem of trash disposal. No longer is that so! Now there has
evolved a combination of four responses:
1. Recycling and reuse
2. Reduction of waste
3. Environmentally sound disposal
4. Intelligent management of each of these segments
Inherent in each of these "solutions" is the handling and
transporting of waste materials.
Compaction of waste at its origin facilitates its collection, removal
and disposal.

A Pirate Festival Is Coming to
a Beach Near You October 11-13
It was only a year ago that the Pirate Fest
promoter cancelled the beach’s annual Pirate
Fest just ten days prior to the event. With the
hard work of folks like Belinda Hadcock, Stevie D’Angelis , Bonnie Roberts, John Richard,
and the Old San Carlos merchants, the event
took place as scheduled. In fact it may have
been better because it became a family-focused event.
Now a year later, it is back and better than
ever. Here are a few reasons why:
• We have a named sponsor. This year the
event is called Pollo Tropical Pirate Fest
on Fort Myers Beach. Having a major
sponsor with stores in Tampa Bay, Orlando and Southeast Florida goes a long
way to helping attract new visitors. On
September 20 Belinda received a call
from the leader of a Tampa Bay pirate
crewe of 400 members they are choosing to come to Fort Myer Beach this year
instead of our competitor Pirate Festival
on Tybee Island near Savannah.
• Many local chamber members stepped
up this year. Rob DeGennaro of Nervous Nellies sponsored the Pirates’ Ball
and Costume Contest. Bill Freeman of
Smokin’ Oyster Brewery bought 50 fishing poles for the Kid’s Fishing Contest
and Gavin’s Ace Hardware got the poles
at cost. John Scanlon of Rudy’s Treasure
Chest donated the bait. Al Vacks of CERT
and Hot Rods donated a custom handmade fishing pole. CERT will be on hand
again this year for public safety.
• New Chamber member Torchlight Productions is sponsoring the Sea Battle,
this year bigger than ever with three
ships, more cannons, muskets and
black powder.
• Both Rob and John Richard donated the
use of their properties on Old San Carlos
Blvd. for staging the events.
• This year we will have over 40 vendors in
the Thieves’ Market, 18 of which will be
sell hand-made pirate costumes, hats,
leather goods, jewelry and other pirate
accoutrement. That is thanks to the tireless work of Belinda Hadcock who over
the past year has trekked to pirate festivals and renaissance fairs around the
Southeast to promote our pirate fest.
• Belinda has organized two stages, one
at each end of the festival, which will
feature continuous family-appropriate
entertainment from 10 until 5 both days.
• John Lallo of Pete’s Time Out and the
Time Square Merchants Association
helped sponsor one of the entertainers,
as did the Kohler family at Lighthouse
Inn Resort and Yucatan, and the Groves
family at Silver Sands Villas.
• Thirteen hotels donated rooms for entertainers and event staff.
• Matanzas Inn, Yucatan and Fort Myers
Princess are sponsoring the kids’ pirate
games.
There are no doubt people and companies
I have not mentioned. My point is that this
year our beach business community has really stepped up to defray the expenses of this
event and make it better than ever. To all of
you who have assisted us, THANK YOU! Our
Pirate fest is about to become a truly major
event!

Wanda Linatsas of Royal Scoop Ice Cream
My husband Dennis and I are new to the Fort Myers Beach area, having moved here in 2012 from
Durango, Colorado. We opened royal Scoop in February 2013.
Our goal is to make people happy! We love the people here and enjoy watching them sit in our
rocking chairs relaxing with our ice cream on our deck. Being from the Tampa Bay area we enjoy
the laid back atmosphere and the friendliness of the beach businesses as well as the visitors. I
thank God for sending us here to Fort Myers Beach. We feel it’s the best beach on the west coast.
Royal Scoop joined the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce in February 2013 and I became an Ambassador shortly after. I joined the
Ambassador Committee because I really feel
strongly about the community. I have met so
many wonderful and funny people since joining.
So come and join us for some great ice cream
and say hello at Royal Scoop, we are open seven
days a week from 11 AM am to 10 ish PM. We
are located at 2307 Estero blvd. on beautiful

It’s time to hit the beach! The

Myers Breach and watch sculptors from around the world use
over 1,000 tons of sand to turn
Fort Myers Beach into a temporary art gallery. Come watch and
participate in special events all
week long as Master, Advanced
Amateur and Amateur competitors battle it out for the number one
spot. We invite everyone of all ages to come and learn the tricks of

with young ones that will last for years.
We need 200 volunteers! No heavy lifting involved. Call Jane Ross at

Populate Your Member Page!
Did you know you have your own page on the
chamber’s website? It’s called the member landing page and
it’s where visitors go when they click on your business in our business
directory. Here you can include lots of information about your business
such as your logo, a description, hours of operation and driving directions. You can also have up to eight photos and a youtube video as well
as links to your web page and all your social media pages all in one
place! And it’s included in your membership at no extra cost to you.
So why is this important? Well first of all, the member page helps drive
people to your web and social media pages which means more visi-
tors and better search engine optimization for you. Second of all, your
member page is indexable and thus searchable by search engines. So
people searching can find your page even if they’re not on the chamber
website. This helps to increase your web presence and your member
page can serve as your web page if you don’t already have one.
Setting up your member page only takes a few minutes. All you need is
your chamber login and password to login in to Chambermaster. Give
Doug a call at 454-7500 or email him at [email protected] if
you need your login and password sent to you. He can also help you
with any difficulties you might encounter while setting up your page.
