Sherwood Art Week
Sat 18–Sun 26 June, 2016 Sherwood, Nottingham
Welcome to Sherwood Art Week 2016, now
in it’s 8th year. Run entirely by volunteers,
this fabulous week is made possible with the
support of local businesses and community
groups. Our motto is ‘Art for everyone’ and
we aim to showcase local creativity and
provide opportunities for people to have a go.
We open with The Secret Garden Craft Fair and
Music Festival at Sherwood United Reformed
Church on Saturday 18 June from 11am–6pm.
Once again, Sherwood is transformed with
yarn bombing and Art in Shops, with over 90
businesses donating their shop windows for
artists to display their work. Look out for the Art
in Shops trail leaflet to map your journey.

afternoon and evening 2hr taster workshops at
various venues. They book up fast, so do call

Exhibitions will take place on the final weekend
Friday 24–Sunday 26 June.
The grand finale is the Remarkable Recycling
Gala at Sherwood Community Centre on
Sunday 26 June. A lovely day out for the whole
family with workshops, performances and craft
stalls, all with a recycling theme.
Thanks to everyone taking part, the organising

Yarn Bombing
You can’t miss the start of Sherwood Art Week!
Mansfield Road will be decorated with woolly
craft creations thanks to many talented local
residents, schools and organisations – bringing
colour and smiles to the streets!
Local Schools
Carrington Primary and Nursery, Claremont
Primary and Nursery, Haydn Primary and
Nursery, Seely Primary and Nursery and The
Nottingham Free School are all taking part in a
variety of activities before and during Sherwood
Art Week. This includes pupils making 2D
and 3D artwork and textiles, taking part in
performances, yarn bombing and book swaps.
The schools will be exhibiting their work in
Sherwood Library throughout the festival week.
The children at Carrington Primary School are
looking forward to participating in SAW. They
will be exploring Maths through Art and
exhibiting their work influenced by 20th
century artists.
Seely Primary School will be producing
sculptures and artwork from recycled materials
this term to exhibit alongside 60 of their milk
bottle lanterns that were shown in the city on
Light Night. The school is turning their hall into
a gallery again for the general public to visit
from 3.30pm to 5.30pm Tuesday 21 - Friday 24
June and pupils in KS2 are doing performance
arts including a scene from The Tempest by
Shakespeare as part of the celebration of 400
years of Shakespeare. The school are working
with an artist to develop bunting to celebrate
SAW.
The Nottingham Free School are taking part
in the artist trading card swap as well as the
recycling gala and producing a range of artwork
to exhibit in the library.

Sponsors
Sherwood Art Week is organised by volunteers!
Each year, there is an opportunity for new people to come on board and bring their
own energy and enthusiasm to the team. So whether you are a local resident, artist or
first time visitor, if you are passionate about art and want to connect with your local
community, come and join us for SAW2017!
Thank you to all our sponsors, to the businesses for their shop windows, to the
churches who offer exhibition space and all the workshop venues. A special thanks to all
the volunteer artists, performers, core group and subgroups who have made SAW2016
such a great event.
