Becoming a member is also one of the best ways to stay connected and informed of all the exciting events that take place throughout the year! The annual membership dues are only $6.50. A portion of that money is used exclusively at our school; and some goes to support the Santa Barbara area PTA and also the State and National levels Remember to return your envelope immediately! Please plan to join us and become involved at upcoming events at El Camino. The more parents involved – the better for everyone! Watch for more details. Ask around if this is your first year. --Melissa Fitch PTA President It is the start of another great year at El Camino! Our young scholars (your children) are demonstrating good character both in the classroom and on the playground. September we are focusing on Respect, one of the nine pillars in the Character Counts program. The teachers, staff and I reinforce the meaning of respect through our Morning Meetings discussions, my Friday Telecast (broadcast through close-circuit TV to all classrooms), and out on the playground. Ask your children about respect! Parents, thank you for getting your children to bed early, bringing your children to school on time, and for making sure they have a healthy snack (fruits and vegetables, crackers or bread, and a bit of protein). Food and sleep are two of the most important factors in ensuring your child has a successful day; being on time means your young scholar is ready to go, feels like part of the team, and has the focus necessary to give his or her all! When you return to school in August, update the teacher, school nurse and health office staff regarding your child’s asthma/allergy triggers and symptoms. If your child requires medication at school, have their allergist or primary care provider complete an authorization form and bring it to the health office along with the medication. The school nurse can then create an Asthma/Allergy Action Plan and train appropriate staff to assist your child in the event of an asthma episode or allergic reaction. To the greatest extent possible, ensure that your child knows what food or environmental allergens trigger symptoms and instruct him/her to go to an adult for help at the first sign of allergy symptoms or in the event that they are exposed to something that could trigger an allergic reaction. 2
