Getting Familiar
with:
Your source of everything Electronic.
very month, we feature a broadcast
show on KTSW to give insight
to something new listeners could
discover on the air waves! This month,
we are focusing on the Bobcat Radio
program which broadcasts for an
hour every Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday beginning at 11 AM. The show
features talk show entertainment
discussing all the sports information
you could want from a sports show.
Mix those elements with a bit of
humor based segments such as “Name
Droppin’,” and “Final Rant,” andyou’ve
got yourself an hour of sports-based
entertainment. The show broacasts
every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
from 11 AM until Noon.

You might not know...
I
f you aren’t familliar with the
school radio station, KTSW,
you might just think it’s another
radio station similar to that of
the typical FM broacasting station.
However, that is not the case at
all. From different segments and
personalities to events hosted by
the station, KTSW has a ton to
offer anyone who might give them
a listen.
KTSW is an educational radio
station, which means ZERO
commericals. Any advertisements
or informational dialogue is put
together by the station itself and
produced and recorded by the
hosts you already listen to, so
they’re really not commercials at
all. They’re more along the lines of
public service announcements and
promotional details. Other Side
Drive, AKA “The Heart of KTSW”
brings togehter everyone from
every department every week day
from 4-6 PM. The show consists of
different segments, news, sports,
in-studio performances, music,
and interviews just to name a few
elements that make up OSD.
But aside from progrmming, KTSW also hosts Mr. Fest, which
is a free music festival during the
spring that brings together local,
regional, and national bands to
perform at the festival.You’ll find
all sorts of venues opening their
doors to performing artists during
the event, and it’s a great time to
check out free music.

hird Thursdays is an event KTSW
puts on every “third Thursday” of
every month. The event is held at Triple
Crown in San Marcos and brings bands
from all over to play. Admission is free
and KTSW supplies free pizza to the
fans as well as has a large selection
of free cd’s to give away from their
collection. Free shows, free food, and
free music!
This month’s concert pulled an
impressive crowd where both inside
and outside, it was a struggle to
move around. The band Von Stomper
began the evening’s festivities,
followed by James C, Hola Beach, and
Golden Graves. The crowd was very
enthusiastic and entertaining to say
the least. It’s a big gathering of people
listening to music and enjoying the
atmosphere!
Von Stomper was a loud, exciting
band. The band utilized harmonicas,
banjos, and a fleet of other unique
instruments. James C seemed to draw
the largest crowd of the night. They’re a
local band with an impressive following,
demonstrated by the group of fans
crowded around the stage on Thursday
night, hackling and singing along with
the band.
If you find yourself free on the third
Thursday of a month, drop by Triple
Crown on Edward Gary st. in San
Marcos for a good time filled with free
music! The event starts around 9 and
ends about 12 am.
Sydney is currently a
junior at Texas State
where she is pursuing
a degree in electronic
media. Sydney works
for KTSW as a Senior
Production Assistant
as well as a host on
Other Side Drive. She
won a college media contest for best
podcast. When talking
about the experience
working for KTSW,
she mentions that it’s
like a big family working for the station. She
co-hosts Other Side
Drive with Fern and
loves the experiences
working for KTSW
has brought. One of
her favorite moments
was at Austin Film
Festival when she
got to interview Jim
Dauterive, who is the
producer of Bob’s
Burgers (one of her
favorite television
shows), and got to see
a sneak peak of the
new season before it
was released.

What’s it like to work for KTSW?
You feel pretty professional being an amateur
I guess. Within the sports staff, it’s really cool
producting NCAA games while you’re in school. The
production staff gives you on air experience so you
feel like a real DJ. It’s good feeling like you’re
doing professional work at an amateur level.

KTSW Fun Fact:
n addition to music,
KTSW provides listeners
with extensive sports
information regarding the
Texas State sports teams.
Someone has to produce
the athletic games!
At KTSW, they have
sports producers who
complete these tasks for
something called a “board
op,” which is putting the
athletic games on air
for play by play and the
analysts who are at the
game. KTSW even has
a program dedicated to
covering TXST sports
events which you can
catch every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday
from 11AM to 12 PM.
KTSW Sports has a
twitter account! You can
find them by their twitter
handle: @KTSWSPORTS.
